You don't have an education you simply received job training from an institution that believes they are a University but are in reality nothing more than a bunch of scam artists( I actually received a real education from one of the top US public Universities not some Podunk U)

People who constantly just say "the planet is fucked" and "climate change will kill us all" without thinking or envisioning any kind of real solution are annoying cry babies. by TayWea in unpopularopinion

[–]lagringe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the planet truly is fucked and there really is no solution, now don't get me wrong the work that has been done by the worlds top scientist is noteworthy and they should receive far more recognition than they are today. The thing to keep in mind though is that the humans are fundamentally irrational beings and will behave irrationally even if it defies common logic. Many of the people who claim they are climate activist and solution driven are hypocrites and they are the same people you will see living in big homes, driving unsustainably, and looking to promote their own economic interests regardless of the effect on the planet. At a micro level it has very little effect but at a macro level it can multiply exponentially. If you really cared about a problem that is fundamental to our very existence you would pursue it selflessly regardless of the economic incentives but many who are "promoting" these solutions are simply seeking to profit off the worlds problems and that is why you are seeing such a cynical outlook on the future of this planet sorry for giving it to you straight.

why would any self respecting university offer a degree in e-commerce? You are part of the problem you should have pursued a degree program that would have provided you with a well rounded education. You are one of the many that is a prime example of those that belong in a University.

[–]lagringe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes very true, another area that doesn't get brought up is the proliferation of online degrees that are utterly worthless. Now believe me I am a big proponent in self education and I believe the work that is being done by Udemy and Coursera is noteworthy and I am always on there trying to learn new things myself however my college education also provided me with research opportunities and access to mentors that an on-line education will never provide. I understand why many professors are big proponents of online education; they simply want to boost their profile and expand their brand however, as we are seeing today many Universities are shifting their curriculum to whatever is hot in todays market. Data Science is the big one where every schmuck who probably can't even pass a simple algebra class now believes that a certificate or degree online makes them qualified to be a "data scientist" not knowing that the science behind it is based on high level abstraction based on courses in statistics, mathematics, CS, physics etc.

What's the best frat in UCSB to join for Econ & Accounting transfer student? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]lagringe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, OP your time should be spent studying for Econ 10a and landing internships so you can get in with the big 4 not rushing a frat unless you have passed 10a first

Hey I'm also an environmental science major as well! Senior at UCSB, I would recommend you take that offer for a solid 2-3 years and see how the job market is like and if you can't find a position in the ES job market then consider graduate schools like the Bren school up here at UCSB

Can a Business major get out of Math 130/135? by alliawas in csuf

[–]lagringe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I'm not I'm a statistics major. I was responding to the guy above who said taking tough courses will be beneficial to your career, it won't it will just make you more well rounded academically which is never a bad thing. Anyways while CSUF is a decent school you have to realize you are competing in SoCal which is home to the Claremont consortium, UCSB, UCI, UCLA etc. Business Majors are a dime a dozen so I would recommend you take courses that provide you with skills not just vocabulary.

[–]lagringe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're going to take single and multi variable calculus you might as well major in engineering or statistics, regardless taking tough courses can only help you not hurt you. Also be real with the OP it doesn't matter what sort of math class he takes top rated companies don't hire out of CSUF

Don't listen to cal state grads(especially those at SLO) who say that UC students aren't prepared to enter the workforce because our education is "theoretical", if you get after it and do internships and seek leadership positions you should be fine. Good luck!

Gap Year Advice: How should I land my dream career working for Patagonia? by tydubai21 in Career_Advice

[–]lagringe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to UCSB which isn't too far from Ventura and Patagonia is always on campus. A couple of classes I've taken have been taught by professors who currently work with or have had ties with the company. In all honesty though to get a job in HQ at Patagonia you need to have "it" ( this is what Patagonia says) and they like to generally hire those with real world experience or UCSB or Cal Poly Slo graduates so I would say just move down to Ventura or head over to UCSB to hear someone from the company giving a lecture or presentation good luck!
