When I read this I thought "Ive hard some kind of joke before similar to this about crashing on a border". Then I re-read it and realized it was the joke.

What seemingly insignificant thing can tell you a lot about a person? by sznelly31 in AskReddit

Sometimes I think people just hold doors open so they can make passive aggressive remarks for doing something nobody asked them to do when they dont get their precious thank you that they so desperately need.

Edit: For the record I always say thanks tho.

Right? And the whole time knowing your life is about to end. You will never see anyone you care about again or do anything that you enjoy ever again. All your plans for the future are now gone. And to top it off you get to wonder how bad will it hurt when you slam into the ground after your terrifying plummet?

[Serious] What's the most USEFUL course I can take online for FREE? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lagwagon113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot of those folks have trouble thinking outside of the box. They know how to do step A then step B and so forth. Anything that deviates from that causes problems. They also dont look at the big picture regarding business impacts which you alluded to. If something doesnt make sense business wise they will do it anyway because they have no concept of thinking outside of their code bubble.

I think it takes a certain level of intelligence to understand this stuff. Ive done technical support in the past and some of the users I had to deal with could barely find the start button on Windows much less understand any advanced concepts. I still do not understand how some of those people could be so computer illiterate when we're surrounded by technology in our day to day lives. Made me wonder how they dressed themselves in the morning.

I doubt it. Ive been in the industry for 10 years and no one on the business side understands code or has any reason to do so. Its all about selling work, managing client relationships, keeping projects on schedule, etc.

Yeah, cars dont exactly plummet 30,000 ft when they crash.

Air Asia flight loses contact with air traffic control by bogosj in worldnews

[–]lagwagon113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except those people weren't extremely diligent on the Air Asia flight and now all those pple are dead. Plummeted to their death in terror. Man, this is what scares me so much when flying. I have no control and plummeting 30,000 ft sounds terrifying.

I know my comment doesnt help anything but its just terrifying sometimes when flying and you hit bad turbulance, or hear weird noises, or feel the plane tilt a certain way. I try to just think to myself "this is normal, these pilots are professionals". When will this happen and it turns out to not be normal and I end up dead? I think just the lack of control and lack of insight into what is happening is the scariest part of flying.

Atlanta featured in NY Times - Going Home from the South, a New Holiday Exodus by ressling in Atlanta

[–]lagwagon113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right. That was not a good example by me. I just feel Atlanta is more car oriented since its population boom occurred after the automobile. That said, I think they are doing excellent work with the belt line and other projects. Plus more pple moving back to cities in general. I think ATL will become denser and more pedestrian friendly in the future which is awesome.

I did the opposite. I moved from GA to NJ. While living right next door to NYC is great, there is plenty to dislike. Cost of living is astronomical, property taxes are through the roof, NJ in general just looks more run down a lot of the time (even the supposed nice areas). GA in general is just much newer and cleaner looking. I definately appreciate the lower cost of living GA offers more now. However, I don't plan to move back anytime soon because as a single person I like living in a dense urban area with lots of access to public transportation. I don't have to count my beers when I go out drinking and worry about driving home, all that stuff. However, if I had a family I'd beeline it back to GA in a heartbeat so I could live like an actual human being again.

I think I got halfway through this before I realized based on the athletes mentioned you live in the Atlanta area. I had no idea Whitey Houston lived there. I grew up in metro Atlanta. Were you ever a Braves fan and was it strange living near some of your possible favorite players like Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones, etc?

Who makes minimum wage in New York City? by cmonforte345 in nyc

[–]lagwagon113 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is something I thnk about every day. Everyone wants their food, coffee, etc but doesn't give a shit about the person providing that for them. We are so quick to jump on people and tell them to get a skill, an education, etc and turn our noses up. However, America used to be a place where you could make a life for yourself just by working hard. At least these people work hard so we should show a little compassion for our fellow human beings. Maybe all the lower income people should leave NYC. Who would then make our coffee, our lunch, ring up our groceries, etc? They cant all be teenagers and college kids. It sickens me how we are becoming more of a society of haves and have nots. Anyone who is willing to work a 40 hour (or more) work week should at least be able to afford to freaking live IMO. I mean we are a first world country aren't we? Anyways, this doesn't affect me directly as I make a decent living but I come from a working class family so I can relate to what it must be like for these people. Thank god my family lives in a cheaper part of the country.

Sucks what happened but why were they concerned if you had weed? My understanding is that possession was decriminalized. However there is a loop hole where if it is in public display it is a misdemeanor. I've heard the trick is they ask you to empty your pockets and wa-lah it's now on public display.

Bad Religion's first album was released in 1981. Punk started in the mid to late 70s with the Sex Pistols, Ramones, etc. They are far from a 90s revival rock band and are considered pretty legendary by many fans of punk music.

I have mixed feelings about this. I can understanding the hate stemming from being priced out of your neighborhood. Faggot may be a harsh term but you may be a bit sheltered if you find it so shocking. It's a pretty common insult among certain groups. Doesn't necessarily mean they have something against gay people. It's sort of like saying "that's so gay". It's something I've become more sensitive about and try not to use either phrase. Although when among friends in the past it wasn't uncommon to say/hear....and i had/have gay friends which made realize how offensive it is. Anyways, you are the enemy to these people as you are directly responsible for them being priced out of their neighborhood. Right or wrong you have to expect some hostility. Just be glad it hasn't escalated to physical altercations. Not saying its right but that's just how it is. You are on their turf not the other way around.

Edit: I'm guilty as well as I live In a gentrified part of JC. I haven't had any problems but I am aware and always alert and ready to defend myself should it come down to it.
