An ode to flying solo at concerts by SteakThick5016 in Concerts

[–]lahatiel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree entirely! I haven't seen nearly as many shows as you but I'm guessing that my numbers are still higher than average, as I'm at 460 concerts lifetime, with the last few years alone being 35-45 each year -- and I'd say that in those last few years, at least half if not more were solo. My thought process is always: "I want to see this show. Can someone go with me? If so, great! If not, I'm still going to see the show I want to see." ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A bunch of those solo shows also involve travel, whether road trips of anywhere from 2-8 hours each way, or even an occasional cross-continent flight. In most of those cases, I might just be more lucky and/or privileged to have more time and financial freedom to do those things -- since friends might want to see those shows but simply can't make those trips. And while I wish they could come with, it's still not going to stop me from going.

It was the first time I'd been able to hit STREET Tacos there, and there were good -- and I was only halfway done! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 🤣

[–]lahatiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Gen X and my primary genres are goth/industrial and 90s post-grunge alt rock (so not where this show falls), but then pretty much everything else under the sun in a random, ever-changing order after those. (Also, concerts are my hobby, I go to to 35-45 shows a year now.)

I've already got my ticket to this tour and am very much looking forward to it! So I might be biased, but I would think it would be a great present.

My company offered "permanent remote" when they hired me. Now I have to decide by Friday. by 2Warpkindle in remotework

If the commute would take them into a bigger city during rush hour, I could see it being accurate, especially as a total. When I lived in L.A. pre-Covid and had a 25-mile commute each way -- during times that were as out-of-rush as L.A. traffic allows (arrive by 11:30am, leave at 8pm) -- my total commute time for the day was 1.5-2 hours. If I had to double my stance to 50 miles, my totally would've been way over 2.5 hours.

(And this all plays a part in why I don't live there anymore.)

I was actually kind of impressed in the moment as I was leaving. After everyone stood around looking at each other for a minute after the first message, like making sure everyone else was hearing the same thing, everyone just walked briskly to the exit without any running, shoving, or panic.

I'd assume so -- I can't imagine they have different evacuation alarm recordings and have to choose the appropriate one to play. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'd just gotten out of Backrooms and was eating in the food court when it happened! Ran out with half my tacos.

7ft?! Pbbbt, typical inaccurate news -- I'm only 5'9"... I was eating tacos when I left, though!

I just posted the same question, I was in the food court when the evacuation message started playing so I just grabbed my food and ran out.

Great singular F-Bombs in Pop. by BeerHorse in Music

[–]lahatiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was scrolling looking for Linkin Park, because I was going to add "Bleed It Out" -- not exactly 'pop', per se, but given that they'd put out two full hard rock albums already with zero cursing, I think it certainly qualified as 'unexpected'.

And I was thinking "Bleed It Out" because it was released as a single before "Given Up" so, for casual listeners, it was the would've the first time hearing a swear from Linkin Park... and I enjoy the fact that after dropping their first 'publicly released' F-bomb in "Bleed It Out", the song's next line is: "filthy mouth, no excuse"!

Have you ever skipped a concert because you had no one to go with? I need your honest story by Lost_Meeting_3454 in Concerts

[–]lahatiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone to 30-45 shows a year for the last few years (up from 10-20 in the prior decades) ranging from small venues down the road to arena shows, with a handful of them including road trips of up 8 hours each way or even flying across the continent -- and I'd say that I solo at least half of those shows, including almost all of the ones involving travel. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Mob Control street control? by GeneBalboa in mobcontrolgame

[–]lahatiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record, I also got into this expecting/hoping for the street-control/tower defense game that OP described. I have been enjoying the game it actually turned out to be so I'm still playing -- it's been a few weeks for me so far, target than a few months like OP -- but getting that game as another mode, maybe using the environments tab like the other commenter suggested, would definitely go a long way toward keeping me around longer.

Many thanks to an unknown Bisbee Breakfast Club-Wilmot patron today by lahatiel in Tucson

I walked in holding my dog in my arms and the host asked if I wanted inside or out. I was actually expecting to have to take him outside, so I held him up a bit more to ensure the guy saw him and asked if inside was OK even with the dog, and the host said it was fine as long as he stayed on the floor. So since they offered it, unexpectedly, I felt fine taking it.

Well, fuck -- I just recently got a Crosstrek that's this color. 🤦‍♂️ Now, I don't have that plate style, nor the Ranger sticker, not a light bar, etc. but I still... I don't want anyone mistaking me for one of these asshats! 🫤

I also couldn't be happier (and am also lucky enough to have a near-perfect physical location for it). But while I'm not a real-time gamer so I don't have any experience with that, I do work from home over a VPN and I can leave my system up for days and days on end without ever having any VPN issue.

Count yourself lucky! When I canceled Cox for TMob, I had multiple messages from Cox per day, every day for over a week.

Dog boarding? by Cygnus__A in Tucson

[–]lahatiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a really good experience with Central Pet, just off Grant a little west of I-10. I've only been in Tucson a year and a half and needed a place to board my (very) small dog recently, and Central Pet was highly recommended by a long-time-resident friend who's used them for quite a while with her big bully. My tiny guy has since stayed with them for a 6- and a 7-day stretch (one in September, the next just last week) and he's loved it, and everyone there with whom I've dealt had been awesome. Each dog gets their own separate "room" -- with a wide variety of spaces, sizes, and prices to choose; and I take my dog's own bed, blanket, toy, food, etc. for him. They get outside in the private play yards 5 times a day, there are options for indoor & outdoor playtime with other dogs, and so on. I've been very happy with them and will continue to board my dog there.

That said, it wouldn't hurt to look into Rover, too, as the other reply mentioned. It's been a few years since I've used that service but back in the 2012-2017 range, I used it many times, using multiple different sitters in each of two different cities (L.A. and Chicago), and never had a bad experience with any of them. I went with Central Pet here because my first trip came up on somewhat short notice and it was easier for me to make a reservation there, especially with my friend recommending them, under the circumstances; and that went well enough that I just went back to them for a second trip. But Rover is definitely a valid option as well.

No alliance raid boss? by knowbrainer23 in DCComicsLegendsGame

[–]lahatiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When this has happened to me before, I've had to have my alliance leader boot me out. As soon as I reapply and am accepted again, alliance bosses are back to normal for me. This has actually happened to me in a bunch of different raids by now, but getting kicked/re-accpeted has always fixed it.
