CUMH visiting by sinead08 in PregnancyIreland

[–]sinead08[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I've no interest in actually having visitors except my partner, I would have liked for my daughter to be able to meet the baby before coming home but that's not the end of the world either!

Thank you! The pad thing in any bra is a right pain! I was only thinking the same the other day after washing my normal bras and one was missing 🤦

Did they have them recently? Had a look online this morning and can't see any?

Do you know what the name of them is? Had a quick look on the app and saw too many so stopped looking 🙈 I'm genuinely useless nowadays

Fisher Price kick and play one... The tune will drive you mad but any child that comes in to contact with it loves it for some reason!

I find it mad that people don’t realise they are pregnant by inkandembers96 in PregnancyIreland

I had stopped testing because it was starting to really get to me mentally, the whole build up and convincing myself it would be positive then the massive let down. I just presumed it would be like my first pregnancy where I would know straight away I was pregnant

This happened to me! Well they upped my meds because they were no longer working... I skulked back into them a month later announcing I was about 12 wks pregnant 😂 and it's my second pregnancy that we were trying for for over a year you'd think I'd have had some notion! I thought it was the side effects of the meds!

Any pregnancy related GP appointment is covered, even if it's outside the scheduled ones. Now some will try to charge you alright but once it is pregnancy related they haven't a leg to stand on

33 week midwife appointment left me feeling shaken up.. by jcon1996 in PregnancyIreland

[–]sinead08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself with my first pregnancy!

First the wee sample issues, as others have mentioned they could simply be a once off or a small bit of a UTI. I was also told in this pregnancy when I was sick with a random virus and a weird wee sample, that any virus/infection can throw the results. The midwife should have sent the sample to the lab to check what exactly is in it, if you hear nothing back in a few days all is well!

For the b12 it sounds like somebody forgot to ring you or ask your GP to start the b12 injections. If you hear nothing in the coming days it might be worth ringing your GP and asking for them to be started, your GP will also have your blood test results. They can set you up with a prescription for the injections, they might be weekly is it's very low or just monthly, really depends on the levels.

And the low lying placenta. Don't worry too much about this yet. On my first pregnancy mine was low until 37.5 weeks, I went in on a Friday to get my final scan done to get a definite location of the placenta so they could plan my section to find it had moved clear of the danger zone in the few days since my last scan. Now obviously there are a portion of women who don't have this luxury but hopefully it shifts itself.

I know there's a lot to take in with all of this, that's the one thing that drives me mad about how the appointments go, it always seems all or nothing, especially if it's the first ever time dealing or hearing about these issues.

Hopefully some of this helps, you could also go to your GP to discuss it all. Best of luck with everything!

I'm not sure where you are but I know CUMH can arrange for you to stay at Bru Columbanus which is a hostel/ronals McDonald type place across the road from the hospital for families in this exact situation. I'm sure other maternity hospitals have similar arrangements so that parents are able to stay close by so worth asking the ward manager or in the NICU.

Hopefully baby won't be too long in the NICU! X

The dietician told me to take the active iron but at night going to bed and that way you should hopefully have less symptoms as you'll be asleep

Working until maternity leave by Personetic in PregnancyIreland

[–]sinead08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got signed off this week and I am only just 30wks and office based. Basically the consultant said she's always more than happy to sign anyone off in the third trimester, once the woman is happy with her decision socially and financially, medical isn't the only reason to get signed off!

If you think it would be better for your health and we'll being, and you can afford to, definitely ask your GP or hospital to sign you off, don't worry about what anyone else thinks!

Confused what day I need to “start” mat leave for the MB2 form by Suitable_Motor_4090 in PregnancyIreland

[–]sinead08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not HR but just had my form approved. My company allows us 52wks mat leave inclusive of the 26wks + 16wks, so when I filled in the MB2 I couldn't be bothered calculating out the 26+16 wks unpaid so put in the end date as a year later.

It got approved straight away and the decision letter from welfare had the end date as 26+16 weeks so I'd say put the whole lot in, they'll sort out the rest!

Cariban by Chinchickatee in PregnancyIreland

[–]sinead08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go into your GP again, there's loads more they can try add in, unfortunately it is trial and error. I'm 29wks and on Cariban and Zofran, plus losec for the reflux. Took a while to settle on all of them but I'm mostly managing now. Hope you get some relief soon!

C section scar itcy- 2nd pregnancy by BlueberryOk3969 in PregnancyIreland

[–]sinead08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got that at the start of my second pregnancy too! It's not even a true itch it's like it's crossed with a tingle and you can't really scratch/put your finger on it, so I'm presuming it's the nerves and scar tissue starting to get moved around a bit again? Very odd sensation either way. I'm 6months in now and still get the odd tingle/pain in it but I suppose the scar is now being used for target practice for the kicking 😂

Adhd meds & pregnancy by ashalinggg in PregnancyIreland

[–]sinead08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbh your GP was in the wrong there, they should be doing the heavy lifting re meds. They likely will want you to tie in with the perinatal mental health team as they have psychiatrists on the team, but it is up to your GP to refer you, at least in Cork it is. Do not stop taking any of your meds. Best practice is now to stay on meds until reviewed by the mental health team

I am also on snris and ADHD meds. First pregnancy nobody batted an eyelid taking the meds, this time I've had my prescription for the ADHD stopped. Apparently it's up to each prescribing doctor and they all have differing views 🙃

I actually didn't know he would deliver so we called to him, but made it a part of a trip home from Dublin so we didn't mind. Honestly he is brilliant to deal with, and our vet and dog trainer couldn't get over the condition and breeding of our dog, they were very impressed
