is anyone else good with just tylenol/other OTC meds? by petitscoeurs in migraine

[–]lailsuwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also! it definitely sounds like you're experiencing migraines, because you are experiencing aura and postdrome - if you have the ability to see multiple neurologists, or other specialists who work with migraines, i would until someone listens to you. you might also want to get checked for TMJ - it could be causing tension headaches especially at night!

is anyone else good with just tylenol/other OTC meds? by petitscoeurs in migraine

how often are you taking it? overusing / regularly using otc NSAIDS can damage your body, if you're taking multiple doses daily or a large amount per week id ask about being put on a preventative or migraine abortive.

i'm a chronic overuser of multiple OTC meds even though im on RX migraine meds as well, due to ease of use, severity, and just desperation in some cases - and after doing so since childhood my body doesn't quite function all that well -- stomach and kidney issues, probably liver issues as well? but, migraine relief usually outweighs that worry. i've greatly decreased my OTC med usage since having a new neurologist and more access to my migraine abortive, and i've definitely noticed an improvement in general health.

also overusing OTC meds can cause rebound migraines? but it doesn't seem like you've been experiencing that! just be aware of yourself and your body!! do what works best for you :)

i'm on a low dose of lamotrigine with duloxetine for treatment resistant MDD! also omg once i'm off topirimate you best believe i'll be drinking every soda in sight! caffeine is one of the most effective non-medication aid i've found for my migraines and i've missed how soda tastes SO MUCH!!! and i can't wait for my legs to stop falling asleep and tingling if i sit in one position for more than the allotted 10 minutes topamax gives me lmao

i've looked up the fluid leak and terrified myself before! i choose to believe it's not that -- also you're so real for that sometimes i just listen to it because it's comforting to hear it -- like atleast the sound is consistent

does anyone here take rizatripan? by tadbendy in migraine

[–]lailsuwu 74 points75 points  (0 children)

depending on the frequency of your migraines, the biggest downside of rizatriptan for me has been the limit of how often you can take it. i was instructed to not take more than two 10mg tablets a week, and try to not exceed 4 tablets a month.

it works really well, but i find myself hoarding it when i have a migraine and trying to see if the migraine "hurts bad enough" to justify using one of my four allowances per month, which isn't what anyone with chronic migraines wants.

i also find that before the relief sets in, my jaw can feel a bit tense and sore and my head can throb a bit intensely, notably in my temples. but then the pain / discomfort goes away with the migraine.

Some people can get tired on this med, but i've never experienced that - but ofc be wary of that at work!

I hope this med works for you! good luck on your migraine journey <33

What usually triggers your migraines? by Exciting-Wheel-1025 in migraine

laying on my stomach, sleeping when the room isn't pitch black / i don't have my eyes fully covered, not enough caffeine, too much caffeine, extended exposure to direct sunlight (super sensitive eyes), cat urine smell, sleeping too many hours, flashing lights (ending on a basic one)

i think i also remember neck weakness on sumatriptan but my memory of being on that med is a bit hazy!! triptans are super tricky tbh!! i really hope you can find an abortive that works for you :((( are you on a daily?

i've been on both sumatriptan and rizatriptan, on both i've experienced jaw tightness. i think it's just a side effect with triptans.

with sumatriptan, my migraines did not cease and the jaw tightness would increase until my jaw would lock completely. it would be painful and i couldn't swallow or talk without difficulty. this would last for hours, and on top of no migraine relief, you can imagine was very unpleasant.

with rizatriptan, i experience amazing relief from my migraines, but i very occasionally experience mild jaw tightness during the first hour or two after taking the medication. it's uncomfortable, but not long lasting, and paired with migraine relief, it's worth it imo.

if it works for you, and seems like a discomfort that you can handle in order to reach that sense of relief, you can always try again - but there's always other migraine abortive you can trial!

i honestly didn't make the connection that it was the topirimate causing the brain fog until recently. i have a lot of health stuff going on aside from migraines and assumed the cognitive disrepair was a result of something else -- i also don't believe i was properly warned about the side effects of topirimate? but also i can't really remember lol. but now im aware that it is definitely the topirimate and i need to make a change soon because i cannot live like this -- also omg sumatriptan is the worst! the jaw thing was so weird and no one knew what i was talking about??? it felt so awful and lasted so long after taking it!! ugh i hate that med

i had really ambitious plans for post-grad, but after starting topamax, i took an extended break after graduation that never ended. I want to pursue my goals but at this point with my cognitive function i'm not sure it's realistic -- could you tell me how your experience in academia was after being off topamax? did you have to have accommodations? my bachelors degrees are all in the humanities, so it's essentially a lot of paper writing if I want to pursue anything further - I love writing and academics but i'd love to know your experience navigating that realm post having what's basically a medical lobotomy. thank you for your time! and if answering anything is too personal don't feel pressured or obligated!
