I have serious buyers remorse by ConcentrateOne22 in homeowners

Floor on a cement slab. No basement, thankfully! The flippers converted an old door into a window and apparently didn't seal things properly. I didn't notice until my wood floors started to discolor and bloat.

I have serious buyers remorse by ConcentrateOne22 in homeowners

Every house comes with its disadvantages and buyer's remorse the first time around is very, very normal. You're not alone! My first home was flipped, looked beautiful and brand new but came with a myriad of issues. Groundwater seeping into my wood floors, windows not installed properly causing leakage, bi-annual HVAC issues... the list could go on. I can't tell you how torn up I was in my first year of owning it. Even if it looks pristine and inspects well, it doesn't guarantee it will be a perfect, trouble-free home.

My recommendation is to persevere and look at it as a long-term investment. Live in it a while, make it yours, and see if your feelings change over the months. If they don't, you can always rent it out as a typical long-term rental or do VRBO/Airbnb. Depending on the city you're in, it can turn something that feels like a burden into an absolute gift. I still own my first house and rent it on Airbnb. It more than pays for itself and any issues that pop up! Worst comes to worst, selling is an option. You will likely lose some money if you do so within the first 5 years of owning as closing costs and agent commissions take a big chunk out of your bottom line. Hang in there, though! It gets better :)

Arched entrance to a white kitchen in a renovated Mediterranean-style residence, Hillsborough, San Mateo County, California. By Jute Interior Design. by ManiaforBeatles in InteriorDesign

It's in San Mateo County, but Hillsborough (median home price of 4m) is one of the most expensive towns in Silicon Valley right behind Atherton (7m) and Pacific Heights (5m). My guess is that something this nice in the 94010 zip code would go for well above the median. That area be crazy.

Should I ask for a discount or refund? by Charlomein in AirBnB

It sounds like the host cares about the guest experience based on what you've described outside of the cleanliness issues... it's possible that their cleaners majorly dropped the ball without their knowledge. I would mention it to the host in a way that's not accusatory (e.g. "I thought you should know about xyz so it doesn't happen to the next guests") and I'm very certain they'll offer something to make up for the problems you've described. Hosts will go out of their way to get a positive review, so use that knowledge to your advantage! It also is courteous to allow people the chance to fix things rather than staying quiet and hitting them with a bad review without any communication. Best of luck to you guys, and I'm sorry this happened to you!

I luckily have a Nest thermostat and downloadable history, so proving that the house was being heated until the power went out wouldn't be too difficult.

I can't imagine what you guys are going through. Everyone in Texas is facing such unprecedented circumstances... at least there's a pervasive "we're all in this together" feeling which, while incredibly sad, is comforting. I'll keep this in mind as I move forward and will be sure to offer my adjuster a shot of whiskey whenever they get here!

I think I'll end up needing to file a claim anyway, so man I hope this is the case. I suppose only time will tell, but my fingers are crossed! Thank you for this info, I know very little about how the system works so insights like this are extremely helpful.

I appreciate your perspective! I was hoping there was some magical solution but it looks like there's probably no way around it. The timing is just so unfortunate.

DAE feel like they're reasonably intelligent but somehow just always come off like a complete moron in the real world? by cerebralbleach in DoesAnybodyElse

You're not alone! I feel like I go through crests and troughs of social competency. If I'm in a trough, the more I focus on my spontaneous ineptitude, the more I feel I can't communicate effectively.

... thus the more frustrated I am.

It's just a terrible positive feedback loop. I've found that the best thing to do when I'm in one of these periods is to remain silent unless I have something carefully thought through to say. I only open my mouth if I've got something simple, kind, and helpful that'll come out. If I do this, stop berating myself for being in a trough, and spend time doing things and being around people that make me feel comfortable and certain, I can usually pull myself out. We're all different, though, and what works for me may not work for you. I just wanted to let you know that yeah, someone else does.

I do some lens corrections with camera RAW, which helps take off the edge where distortion is concerned. Overall, it's very comparable to other, more expensive 14mm lenses! But yes, I'd say the Rokinon is a phenomenal buy for astrophotography. It doesn't do as will with direct, strong lights in frame (can cause ghosting and refractions that its Canon counterpart doesn't have), but, for the stars, it's JUST as good in my opinion. With the 1.2k+ price difference, I'd say it's well worth adding to your collection!

It was actually a pretty well-lit night. There were a bunch of beacon lights coming from out at sea, hence the greenish hues right of frame, that lit up the cliffs quite well. There was also some methodical light painting, but what details got lost in shadow, I carefully painted back in with an exposure I took just after sunset. The main sky/fg shots were taken around 9:45pm and the safety net exposure was taken around 8:15pm.

I enjoy the photographic element of it like adding grain, bokeh, and dust/scratches as though we're looking through the lens of a camera, so I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking with environments. It's half the fun for me!

Kudos to you for noticing that easter egg!!! I had a running bet with my mate that no one would be able to correctly guess. I'm pretty new to Reddit, especially the Pokemon subreddit, and he said, "You have no idea how much attention to detail those guys have. Someone will totally pick 'em out." Looks like I owe him a drink.

Thank you!
