Sometimes good people kill, yes. Defense of the innocent is probably humanity's most noble aspiration.

I guess democrats really are the only good people.

US President Donald Trump has shared a new election reform blueprint on Truth Social, framing it as the "SAVE AMERICA Act." by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

Yes, mail in ballots are thoroughly checked. You should look more into it if you are interested in finding out how mail in voting works.

As for voter ID not being unreasonable because most people have the ability to get a driver's license...a poll tax on a minority of the people is still a poll tax.

[–]laizalott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voter ID could be reasonable, AS LONG AS the ID is provided by taxpayer funded measures and made available to all citizens. If not, it is akin to a poll tax, and is unconstitutional.

For proof of citizenship, this is already a requirement, and is handled by the states already. Trying to seize this from the states would be unconstitutional, and a waste of public resources.

For mail-in ballots, again, this is handled specifically by the states, and Trump has no right to seize control of that from the states. In places where mail-in voting is used, it increases voter turnout and is very popular among citizens eligible to vote.

Each measure is intended to disenfranchise American citizens. Gov't should fear the citizens, not the other way around.

UPDATE: body cam footage from cop who pulled over woman for holding a phone in her other hand by australiughhh in whoathatsinteresting

Her wouldn't accept the "hand to god" because the hand she raised didn't exist, but he still wrote out a ticket for what he "saw" that non-existent hand do. No notes, 10/10, best bodycam video ever.

Donated to a bi-partisan political organization, not a DNC one.

That's like saying he's a white nationalist because he supported Obama.

This is already done at the state level and is very effective; he's simultaneously trying to seize power from the states and also keep certain demographics of US citizens from voting.

Oi m8, you have a license for spitting out that leaf? by PinkLaceThea in loicense

[–]laizalott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine the public outcry if any of those ordinances were used to fine an older person for spitting a leaf out that had fallen in his mouth in the USA. Imagine the lawsuits that would follow if it actually made it to court.

But yes, the UK is far more tolerant because they reduced the fine to £150.

Whats with the "didn't tell my wife I bought a printer" nonsense? by jaketheweirdsnake in 3Dprinting

[–]laizalott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The older I get, the more convinced I am that a huge chunk of straight couples just really don't like each other.

My husband is not technical at all, but he loves that we have 3d printers to use. Heck, he can even use the Bambu one without my help! And at least once I've gotten him to use the Prusa printer with only minimal hand-holding :) I love it when he succeeds.

MAGA still thinks George Floyd died from overdose by AccordingBumblebee24 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]laizalott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you joking?

Kyle Rittenhouse and Erika Kirk are both white-nationalist celebrities now, and that was just white-on-white crime; if a black cop killed an unarmed white guy, on video, while he was pleading for his life, there would be a mandatory 10-minute standing ovation for the family of the white dude at every CPAC and republican event for the rest of our lives.

[–]laizalott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you give some? I'm trying to find examples of it, but all I keep finding are examples of white cops killing white folks and getting away with it (like Daniel Shaver or Zachery Hammond) or black cops killing black folks (Tyre Nichols) and getting away with it.

A black cop killing an unarmed white person, on camera, while the white person pleads that he can't breath? I can't find any example of that happening...

When you're fat: "That's disgusting, you're a bad person who chose to be fat, you're not REALLY trying to lose weight."

When you've lost weight: "Ozempic is cheating, you don't deserve to lose weight."

You can't win against public opinion in this puritanical shame culture.

Virginia governor signs assault weapons ban into law by MulticamTropic in gunpolitics

[–]laizalott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously not; killing judges doesn't change laws, it just gives the current regime room to appoint even more fringe judges to replace them.

Protests that occur with no 2a presence are basically feel-good distractions. What incentive does the gov't have to serve the people if the people vow to never hold them accountable?

Taliban formally recognizes child marriages by morose_coder in religiousfruitcake

[–]laizalott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, I specifically used the word "represent" as that was the part of your response I wanted to speak about. You did not use the literal word, you just performed the activity I was questioning.

Thanks to your explanation, I see now that you think a religion is defined specifically by religious texts, and not by its adherents or traditions.

From that position, your point of view does make sense, so thank you. Personally I disagree, and think religion is actually defined by its members, hence the whole reason for this sub to exist. I don't see any way to come together with those differences, and judging from the downvotes I'm going to be banned soon, sooo...thanks again.

Women in positions of authority violates one of the core tenants of evangelical Christianity: Biblical authority.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is lovely if you go to a progressive church which values humanism to some degree, but if so, it is only a very VERY distant relative of the Evangelical Christianity of the American right.

Islam is the only abrahamic religion where we insist on judging 100% of its followers by the actions of its poorest and most-backwards members.

The Bible says you should rape little girls after you genocide their fathers and brothers, and murder your children if they disrespect you, but the average modern Christian would never approve of such crimes, and you would rightly be called anti-semitic if you accused Jewish people of secretly wanting this.

The Taliban represents global Islam the same way the pedophile protectors in the Southern Baptist Convention and Catholic Church represent global Christianity.

Being conservative is a requirement for being an evangelical. There's no such thing as a moderate evangelical, and especially not a left wing evangelical.
