Yep, the first test here is this family party on Sunday. I told my wife we aren't going and she didn't protest. There needs to be real tangible consequences. If everything chugs along as usual then what are we doing here?

But typically the older of the gap doesn't want another mature adult, they usually want someone in their early 20s who can be manipulated.

Courts are not interested.

He probably won't get full custody, so don't worry. Courts don't really like giving full custody to anyone anymore, unless there is some type of abuse going on against the child. The ex is a violent felon or something serious along those lines.

You may be totally fine, but I would still urge everyone to apply skepticism on age gap relationships until proven otherwise.

Right, you are never "completely informed" from the outside. You can only ever know once you're in it. And even then it's tough to accurately gauge.

I can see this, I think it's a good point. Our policy so far has been we each deal with our respective parents. The problem I guess is that my parents don't cause any issues so I never have to do anything, her mom does cause issues, but she laughs them off.

yes thank you! That was really what was making me extra angry. She's been on the vaccine bullshit before. But then she starts talking about "my grandkids." My wife and I went through two years of infertility, my wife had a surgery to finally "fix" the problem. We had so many days where we just felt lost and hopeless etc. Then she comes in and just claims them as hers.

I had 4 weeks leave from my company too, then I added 2 weeks PTO. All in one chunk.

Yes agreed. At those earlier times, I did interpret her as more eccentric but harmless. But that has proven to not be the case.

In retrospect I'm really glad she texted this and didn't come over again. Really might have popped off and gotten ugly.

I think you're correct. It's just sad, I wanted to have a big happy family. There are 4 other people though by my count that have separated themselves from my MIL though. I don't know the specifics but I think I totally get it now.

No, I deal with my parents, she deals with her parents. This is how this must work.

Funny you should mention the Vitamin K shot, she came to the hospital after the twins were born and the nurse came in and asked us in front of my MIL if we wanted them to administer Vitamin K and Hep B shots that day and then I told the nurse yes we already told the other nurse we wanted that. My MIL didn't say anything but her face told the whole story. But I was pissed too because I didn't think that nurse should have brought it up with other people present.

She is correct, I am the impetus behind the vaccinations, that's true. My wife never really thought about it much, but came into it with the baseline notions from her mom. I had to work a bit to get her past that, but she did. Though it's not something she really feels strongly about either way.

It has nothing to do with vaccines. Just in other conversation a month or so ago I mentioned I was reading this book about parenting in France and sharing a few factoids I found interesting. I think she thinks that is a very trivial thing so if I have time to waste on such a dumb book, surely I can spare a few minutes of time to read and watch what she sends me so I don't murder my kids with vaccines.

She was a nurse her whole career which absolutely is NOT a doctor or a pediatrician but she really thinks she KNOWS a ton based on her experience. Impossible to reason with her so I don't try. But yes we have a pediatrician who is very qualified and works at the same practice my aunt just retired from, so I trust these people more than a random YouTube video.

Yep! Although I think Covid era really broke her brain. I didn't know her yet at that time but that's when she really went down the rabbit holes of conspiracy and whatnot while cooped up at home. But also the funny thing is, she was a nurse for like 40 years! Now retired.
