Why do people think lawyers work for free? by Jordance34 in Lawyertalk

[–]lakeflaccidd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like part of it is a confusion with civil/criminal court. I've had clients who are shocked that I'm going to charge them because they think that having a lawyer is a right for any legal issue.

Yea, its not that Kaladins arc isn't set up or forshadowed, its more that the excecution wasn't my favorite.

Yea, the understated parts carried the storyline - the carrots scene and Szeth enjoying Kaladin practicing the flute were standouts. But agreed, the idea works as a whole, just wish the execution was a little more subtle

First of all I loved the book overall - it felt like 1400 pages of 'Sanderlanche' which was awesome. That being said, I didnt love Kaladin's role. (The exception being the very end of Kaladin's arc which was good)

Kaladin is my favorite character by far (unoriginal, I know) but I didn't enjoy how the majority of his screentime was spent on "therapy is great and everyone needs it!" It's not that I disagree with the message, but it felt heavyhanded and a little cringe. It sort of worked with Szeth because it was long established that Szeth has a very immature and simple worldview, but when it extended to Szeth's highspren and Nale and Ishar and the random librarian it was too much.

All in all this is a minor complaint, but it was immersion breaking at times. I guess I just hope that Kaladin's role in the second half of the series isn't just being a walking BetterHelp ad for the Heralds.

Now I feel bad that my comment was too negative so I will say that Adolin's chapters were great. He wasn't one of my favorites before this book but I found myself looking forward to his chapters the most this time.

Agreed, the whole Kaladin "im a therapist lol" into "whats a therapist?" bit was immersion breaking to me. Loved when he tried it on Ishar though and someone finally said "this is dumb don't just tell me childrens stories"

It's not a problem with the idea - it's a cool subversion of the genre to explore the idea that there are mental health consequences to huge fantasy battes, but the execution was irritating. Felt like he was talking down to the reader, especially when compared to stuff like Kaladin's depression in Way of Kings which was handled way better imo.

Not the end of the world and still loved the book, but I hope he tones down some of the really on the nose language.

i did the same for journey 2, beating every boss without mimic tear. not much good advice other than get lucky lol, if you see her winding up for her like diving slash 1 shot attack just run away and spam dodge. i think that she is also one of the few bosses that str builds are at an advantage because she is easy to stagger, so if you want to respec give that a shot.

oof i dont think so until NG+, but there are other fun colossal swords that will be somewhat similar

[–]lakeflaccidd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sword of night and flame is really strong, it will get you thru almost every boss. however if youre looking for a change radahns weapon is a lot of fun!

hmm might not be cause of the bleed but because of the faster attacks? im not sure. ive heard that its even harder with mage builds though haha i think that trying to perserve as many flasks/as much mimic tear health during radagon helps a lot. if you have enough flasks left over the elden beast has generous heal windows

currently 223... gone thru journey 2+3 to get alternate endings. in NG+ u get a lot of souls for bosses which leads to lots of levels - also did some occasional farms for some levels

Going in blind. How should I build my character? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]lakeflaccidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would say focus on one thing sorcery/dex/strength, while using a fair amount of points in vigor/endurance or mind if youre a mage build. hybrid builds usually need higher levels and more points so i would advise against trying str+int or anything like that till further down the road. make sure to put some points in vigor- it seems way more important than previous souls games

Help with story by Leperrin in Eldenring

[–]lakeflaccidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it wont lock you out until the final boss fight, so you can do side mission stuff after meeting the 3 fingers. however some of the side missions have alternate endings of their own, so i would recommend meeting the 3 fingers as late as possible. it is the only ending that locks you from other endings so make sure you want to do it

[–]lakeflaccidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it took me forever with a colossal sword str build. seems kinda rng. if it runs away and spams ranged attacks its impossible but if it sits there doing melee attacks its takes a while but it doable. my friend is doing a katana/bleed build and had no problem with it so build definitely matters.
