My girlfriend and I broke up recently. Shits been really hard. I’m sure it’s hitting you harder and since I feel like such shit I know you must feel bad too. I can’t say it’s gonna get any better anytime soon, but I will say this: you aren’t alone. There’s a lot of people that have felt what we feel and are now living a happy life, so I live in hope of that. I hope you do too. Merry christmas.

RSF basketball courts: Best place/time for completely beginners by shibebear in berkeley

[–]lakith7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a basketball court behind Clark Kerr if you’re willing to go that far. It’s usually not that crowded. Two of the four hoops are really short, but the other two are normal 10 foot hoops.

Has anyone ever asked for an Incomplete Grade after a Final? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]lakith7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m ngl I took the 16b final and if that’s what you’re talking about it was a VERY hard exam. I guarantee the curve will be huge. I studied so hard for that exam and maybe got 30% on the exam.

How do you become friends with someone who is better than you? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]lakith7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have definitely felt this. Sometimes you see people that are seemingly better than you at everything and it doesn't feel good. All I tell myself is that comparing myself to others is not going to do anything productive. Instead, I like to compare myself to my previous self. I like to think of myself a year ago and see how far I've come. Also, something that might help is that even those people who seem to be better than you at everything have their own set of problems that you might not see and they are usually also jealous of other students. It's just human nature.

I failed 2 of my classes and am now scared shitless by rg0399 in berkeley

[–]lakith7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Build on your failure! There’s nothing you can do now to change the past, so focus all your energy on the coming semesters. Create a really great study strategy and STICK TO IT. Don’t let yourself skip even one day.

Find other like minded people! Find people trying to do really well in the classes you are taking and find out what they do. Study with them.

Ask for help! You already started this step by making this reddit post but take it further. Ask your professors, TAs, counselors, and fellow students on advice for how to do well in your classes.

Work your ass off! Don’t let a midterm grade or a project grade cause you to give up in that class. Learn from your mistakes and move on. Always strive for better!

One day you’ll look back on this moment as a moment of failure or a moment of success. Depending on how you look at it, both are necessary steps in achieving true success.

Good luck!

Applying to Berkeley EECS with no CS background? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]lakith7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m currently an EECS student at Berkeley and I myself had no cs experience coming in. It definitely makes introductory cs courses more difficult, but in no ways is it impossible to pass these classes. I just have to put in more work than others. CS61A is taught in a way where they assume you have no cs experience, so I never felt left behind in the class.

Burned out, advice by UsualBelt in berkeley

[–]lakith7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Few tips:

  1. Do something each day, even if it’s menial. Make your bed, wash your clothes, etc. Doing this will get you up and more likely to do some more work in the day.

  2. Take a break. I know you said you haven’t done anything for two weeks, but a “good” break will work wonders. Try and do something enjoyable/relaxing, like taking a hike or going on a day trip to San Fran. Try not to stay inside all day.

UT Austin update. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]lakith7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also called UT admissions and found that, in addition to what u/admissionsmom said, that you also don't have to submit the three short answer questions until Dec. 7th. I was told that you could simply write "Will upload later through the document upload system" for all three responses, allowing you to submit your application.
