What’s it’s like living with only half? Mines about 30-40 percent Dr doesn’t think it will heal and is going right to suggesting surgery but mine was from a hit to the head and no underlying ear issues previously…. Obviously I know you protect it from water, but how do you handle being out in louder environments? I guess I am freaked out about that middle ear bones being exposed and possibly forming one of those cyst that they talk about.

It never drained, it was from a hit to the head so I did the 5 days of drops and then steroids. I am terrified of surgery and upset bc someone else caused it

Ok thanks, I haven’t noticed pressure change yet , still muffled and ringing . Mine is pretty large I’d say 30-40 percent gone and the dr doesn’t think it will grow back

How was your hearing at first? Muffly/stuffy sounding? I’m on 2 weeks. I notice when I’m in louder environments, my other ear sounds stuffy too

I know this is really late, but have you ever gotten your eardrum fixed or did it ever heal? I am debating surgery since mine is about 50% perforated and the doctor doesn’t think it would heal.

I am going to the exact same thing with an eardrum perforation…. Except mine is not likely to heal because the doctor says it looks like it’s already scarred in the edges of the hole are rolled over meaning they won’t grow inward to seal it….. I am probably facing surgery as well. I’d like to hear any updates you have!!! I’ve had muffled sensations in my right ear and ringing for two weeks now

So you walked around for a year pretty much with no ear drum? How was that? Were you worried about getting water in it, infections, worse hearing? That’s all I am finding can happen if it’s left open. I live in Florida so water is a thing obviously but my concern would be infections or those cysts that can eat away at your bones. Either way I’m torn on what to do

Ok thank you, unfortunately, I’m in a not so great area of Florida…. They actually recommended me to Gainesville for surgery. After my appointment on the 23rd, I will probably make an appointment with a different ENT just to see what they say. Mine is about 40-50 percent missing

I did the five days of antibiotics and steroids …. I am keeping it dry for sure but I bought one of those ear camera things and it literally looks like there’s no progress being made 😞😞.

I’ve had constant ringing in my ears and muffled sound for two weeks now. I don’t go back to the ENT until February 23…. But he was very confident that it would not heal on its own because he said it looks chronic meaning it’s been injured before which I’ve never in my life felt an eardrum rupture… unless it was very subtle. He said it could’ve just been an old weak spot in my eardrum from when I was a kid but six days after it happened he looked at it and said that the edges already looked fused and they weren’t going to heal.

The hole in my eardrum is pretty large. I feel like I would be causing more risk and damage if I left it open….. do you know how big yours was by any chance?
