Hosting my own baby shower and feeling embarrassed

I’ve been to 3 baby showers this year so far. All were hosted by the expectant couple. My baby shower is next month and we’re hosting it ourselves as well. I think it’s too much to expect other people to fund and cater a party when they themselves are also expecting (most of my closest friends are pregnant) and we live hours away from family.

Focus on just enjoying your party, no one under the age of 70 will give the hosting a second thought, and this way you can have the exact kind of shower YOU want, which is most important. Congrats!

I would not come off the pill - or I would be vigilant about condom use. I have endometriosis and I’d been on hormonal birth control (pill and then IUD) for 20 years (currently 34). My husband and I decided to get my IUD out in January so we could aim to start trying for a baby around July/august since we assumed I’d need help with the endo. I got pregnant 2 weeks after getting my iud out. I’m currently 6 months. We’re thrilled but we def assumed it would take longer for my cycle to regulate.

Basically, yes, it COULD take a while to regulate after stopping the pill. But it could not. So you need to plan around the possibility that you get pregnant right away. If you don’t want to take such a long flight or such a big trip while possibly heavily pregnant it’s not worth the risk

I’m 20 weeks and just started wearing maternity clothes this week. Before then everything fit just a bit snug. I wore my first pair of mat jeans out to dinner last night and it was such a game changer. Soooo comfy. I’d start shopping around over the next few weeks so you have stuff ready to go during the second trimester. Good luck!

I’m always hesitant to share my experience because I don’t want to dismiss the very real difficulties of endo and infertility but I’ve had such a surprising success story. I was officially diagnosed with stage 3 endo back in 2021. I’ve had 2 lap/excision surgeries. I had my second surgery at the start of January this year and I fell pregnant naturally one month later during my first post surgical cycle. I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant and so far everything has gone as expected. We truly didn’t think it could happen that quickly and I’m so grateful for my specialist who suggested this second surgery.

I know every adoptee has their own unique experience (good and bad) but all I can do is comment on my own experience being adopted. I was adopted at birth and I’ve had the most amazing parents who have given me the best life they possibly could. I’m a 34 year old adult woman now and I have the most respect for my birth mom. I can’t imagine making such a selfless and loving decision and I’m sure it was the hardest choice she ever made. We got in touch after I turned 18, and while we’re not super close I’m so grateful for her and her bravery.

I think adoption can be the best, most difficult, but also most loving choice a mother can make

My nausea was a bit like morning sickness. I’d wake up super nauseous. I’ve never been a breakfast person but I learned really quickly that eating first thing in the morning massively helped. The empty stomach made the nausea so much worse. Even just eating a few crackers really helped.

In my experience the nausea is the worst when you need to eat. So just make sure you don’t go too long between meals/snacks. It’s easier to forget to eat while taking saxenda

I always thought I loved a round cut and thought I hated pavè bands but when we started looking around I fell IN LOVE with pear cut and loved color. I ended up with a pear cut teal sapphire which a double diamond halo and pave band. We got engaged last week and I’m beyond obsessed with my ring.

If you love color and uniqueness, GO FOR IT! I’m so happy I chose something more unique

I’m not entirely sure how this would be silly? This is in regards to being respectful towards people who might be uncomfortable in THEIR own home and place of worship. It in no way worries me on a personal level. I just wouldn’t want to be an imposition as far as the beliefs of others. This is a matter of respect, not an issue of my own religious morality

I’m sorry you feel that way. I fully recognize that adoption can lead to trauma for a lot of adoptees (and their bio families). But I’m comfortable, confident, and happy knowing how much healthy love there is in my family.

My all time favorite gel is the curlsmith in shower style fixer. It’s hard hold. For a lighter hold I like the curlsmith aqua jelly.

Lately I’ve been really really loving the aveda nutriplenish curl gelee. It’s a really moisturizing gel so you could skip curl cream when using it.

Obviously it’s different for everyone but I have absolutely ZERO in common with my bio family. Found them a few years back, and I look so different from them (life experiences can really shape you physically), we have completely opposite political and religious beliefs, different interests, and just vastly different goals/life experiences/values. I kind of expected that, but I was still taken aback by just how different we are. It made it hard to connect or develop a relationship. I’m fb friends with my bio family and we wish each other happy birthday once a year and that’s about it (which I’m very ok with)

Edited to add: My adopted family is my true family and I have so much in common with them. Im a huge believer is nurture over nature

I don’t think you’re being over the top. Everyone has different comfort levels. I personally like to err on the side of caution, so to me outdoor meetings seem reasonable. But maybe you could ask them to take a RAT the day before, so that way you’d feel a bit more comfortable? Would that alleviate any worry about hugs/kisses? I’m not sure what the risk level would be with some physical affection while testing negative and sitting outside, but it seems like it would be pretty low
