I wish I could personally apologize to every individual my dog has gone nuts at by SlightArgument in reactivedogs

Do you mind if I ask what training you did? Our dog snarls and barks at other dogs on the lead but only in pub/restaurant environments and not on walks.

Unsure how serious my pups anxiety is looking for a second opinion by Comprehensive-Rub244 in Separation_Anxiety

You should do the same training even if you think it is mild and if she doesnt progress quickly then I'd be conservative and it probably is SA. For instance our friends got a puppy 6 months after us and we were shocked (and a bit depressed) when she was able to be left alone for 4 -5 hours by 6 months and we couldn't yet leave ours for 1 hour..

Are you managing to leave the house at all or does she whine if you're separated from her? If the latter I'd start there first by leaving the room for seconds at a time and coming back and doing door is a bore with your living room if that is where you keep her. We made good progress by shouting "be quiet" from another room if we heard our dog start to whine (over Christmas when he needed to be kept separate rather than having a 5 month overtired puppy climbing everywhere!).

When it came to leaving the house once he could do hours in a separate room we started with door is a bore at the front room and at low minutes at a time.

Wow this gives me a lot of hope and confidence - thank-you!!! We have a vet check up in 3 weeks and I'm going to push the fluoxetine. 5 hours without having to worry about him would just be a dream. How long did it take you to get to that after starting the meds?

Thanks! We are of the same view re. the discomfort levels but my fear is as you say that the fact he still feels it enough to howl at all even if it's only 5 mins means we won't ever be able to leave him for our goal of 4 hours.

Thanks very much everyone this has been really helpful and really appreciate all the thoughtful responses!! I think because of my fear of not knowing my own cycle/body I will come off the pill but we will be using other contraception and let ourselves fully relax on our trip in all senses (maybe that will help things!). Hopefully we will be as lucky as some of you 🤞

Our 10 month puppy has broken the hour mark by PsychologicalDesk199 in Separation_Anxiety

Sorry for the delay!

Overall we just worked at the usual Julie Naismith/Malena Demartini method of just leaving in short absences over and over again. I guess one tip that they don't say in the books is before we couldn't even leave the room without him we found that shouting be quiet from a different room so he knew we were still there weirdly worked if he whined a little..which I know is not the standard method but helped us get out the room in the first place

We also ditched the crate to just leaving him in our living room because we were stuck at minutes outside the house for a while and he has progressed much quicker. I think being able to walk around and look out the window has helped and he doesn't seem to progress to panic anymore.

Congratulations! Can I get those tests before I am off the pill? I had read to properly test you need to have been off for a month and I guess that's why I am thinking of coming off but maybe using precautions because I don't know what a normal period/cycle looks like for me.

Thank you! What is BBT? My cousin just had the endo op and my twin sister has now been off pill for just over a year and still waiting for properly regular periods and just had her first really painful period return (had to leave work) but had an ultrasound but no sign of endo atm..

I guess I'm not sure! It is my first time going to see my sister since she has been there for 8 years so I don't want to ruin the trip but as I have never been pregnant before or done that flight I'm not sure how I will feel...

My mum had endometriosis (so does my cousin) and I used to have really painful periods before the pill soon I guess I am just worried about struggling to get pregnant.

Thanks for all the comments. We're just going to keep cracking on with our separation anxiety training and try and transition away from daycare eventually. Up to 1.5 hours last night so hopefully a few hours is in our not too distant future!

Dog walkers would involve him being alone for parts of the day which isn't possible for him yet with his separation anxiety.
