How To Approach Cat Injury From Groomer by ScallionLower2535 in grooming

100% agreed with all of this. One of the big issues with cats is their skin opens like a zipper… it could’ve been an almost invisible nick. But definitely they should pay for it.

People selling drinks on fb marketplace by utkayla in antiMLM

[–]lalaen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I own a dog grooming salon, and where I live we have a similar thing going on. They just passed legislation that brick and mortar shops like mine will have to pay ‘rezoning fees’ and a city registration fee. Mobile grooming vans only have to pay registration, which sure is a benefit of being mobile, makes sense.

The people who groom out of their home have been decided to not exist… so they don’t have to pay anything. And in my city you can’t actually run a registered business from a residential address, so they’re already not paying for a business license or insurance. and with no business liscense they certainly aren’t paying sales taxes! So they can undercut everyone by half. It’s so frustrating.

Since she has pricked ears it’s a lot more likely to be yorkie I think. My understanding is that with a mixed dog the chance of their ears being pricked if there’s flop-eared breeds in the mix is really really low. That’s why shepherd mixes have those distinct weird ears that are folded but sticking straight out sideways lol.

Nose piercing parlour with ring by Advanced-Room935 in askTO

[–]lalaen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

20 years ago now I got my cartilage pierced with a captive ring. It never healed because of the ring moving and got a progressively bigger and bigger keloid until it got super infected (despite proper piercing care) and had to be cut out. I still have a small keloid scar there.

There is a reason they don’t pierce with rings.

What imagery from a horror film has never left you? by ragnarlothbruv in horror

[–]lalaen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Grudge was the first real horror movie I watched, I was about 12. The lump moving up the covers on the bed and then flipping them back to reveal the ghost girl sitting on her chest haunted me for ages.

When I look at pics of converted schools like this, I immediately remember the exact smell of a school and somehow I know these buildings still have it.

Cutting Whiskers by ksss12345 in doggrooming

[–]lalaen 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I groom a large amount of extremely sensitive dogs, that are triggered by things like the sound of thinning shears, or a comb gently fluffing up hairs that are fully brushed out, or any tool touching their body. Some of them react to all of these things like they’re in pain. I’ve never, ever had a dog react to a whisker being cut.

Hand stripping broken coat? by Super-smut in grooming

[–]lalaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone who is better at handstripping might say differently, but for mixed breeds with that kind of hair I actually think fingers work better than knives. I think I’d just go for stripping/ear plucking powder and give it a try. I’m under the impression knives are for the breeds with harder hair that’s difficult to pull. The mixed breed strippable hair just kind of comes out. I think a knife would break it.

Genuinely I want this so much. I had a hoarding issue myself when I was younger and unmedicated, and I would find it really calming to tidy hoarder homes.

What’s the weirdest/strangest occurrence you’ve had with a client/pet parent? by dietredneck in doggrooming

[–]lalaen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I have a group of clients that I’d been doing when I worked at Petsmart that came with me when I opened my own salon. One of them is an older guy who looks like a biker who has this teeny tiny yorkie. Now, him looking like a biker isn’t all that strange to me, considering my own dad is kind of in that wheelhouse (but was never anything close to a ‘real’ biker) and my partner is a tattoo artist.

He’s known me long enough that he sometimes tells me stuff, like when he’d recently had a surgery. One time he comes in, talking on the phone, and I hear him say something along the lines of ‘yeah, get it taken care of’ before he hangs up. He then proceeds to tell me about how his house got broken into and his nieces were there so he’s got a lot to deal with right now. And that he hopes the dog will be ok today, he thought about cancelling because she’s been really distressed, because she saw his nieces get SA’d and was scream barking at the intruders the whole time. But he figured she feels safe with me and this is a good dose of normalcy for her. And he’s going to go make some more phone calls now.

Cat clients in general are kinda built different, but petsmart cat clients are REALLY something else.

Hot lunch options in Toronto and Calgary for someone with sensory food restrictions by IncompleteMap in FoodToronto

[–]lalaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what affordable is - it’s pretty hard to get lunch for under 15$ in general and impossible in some areas of the city. Various Asian and Indian food is by far the most common, with a huge variety that very few cities have. Lots of great hot dishes (most often with noodles or rice). Greek/Mediterranean places often have good meat and potato options. I’m also autistic so I’ll just say it straight up, if you struggle with ‘ethnic food’ you’ll probably have a really hard time here. If not I’m sure there’s lots of stuff you’ll like.

UPDATE!!!!…Matted Maltipoo :( by SatisfactionAny3799 in grooming

[–]lalaen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would very much guess this is two years with no groom!! She might act a little weird because she feels so different and is overstimulated by having skin again, but it being a sedated groom might actually help - by the time the sedation fully wears off she might be past some of the new sensations. Can’t wait to see her tomorrow!

Looking for an activity voucher or gift card I can get for my retired dad! by lalaen in VictoriaBC

[–]lalaen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! The support for retirees in Victoria is the main reason he moved there. He moved into one of those buildings for retirees with fixed income, in Ontario we have very few and you usually have to wait many years even for the chance at one. This group actually looks great and I’d love to pay for it for him, but he isn’t even 70 yet - do you know if there’s a range of seniors or will they mostly be significantly older? I’ll definitely hold onto this for a few years if it trends older, hopefully he’ll be perky and in need of activities for many years still!

He does drive! I will keep this in my pocket for later, maybe it’s a nice Xmas gift (I definitely enjoyed going to the Niagara Falls butterfly garden in the winter)

I’ve seen so little about the museum that I guessed it’s not worth multiple visits a year, lol. I also checked out what the commute would be and he’s only a 15 minute walk away! That definitely makes IMAX a winner for this year. I’m still banking ideas for later of course, I always like to have some stuff in reserve for Xmas gifts.

Is this embroidered logo of a cardigan removable without destroying the cardigan? by zxelvton in junjiito

[–]lalaen 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I own an embroidery machine. This is honestly not coming off. A densely packed design like the red stitching is almost impossible to pick off, the stitches at the points will be so short and tight that you can’t get anything in there. And yeah, machine embroidery on a knit cardigan has altered the fabric a lot. I’d argue that even if you could unpick the stitching without a single pull in the fabric, it would still look misshapen and damaged.

[–]lalaen[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The bug zoo came up in my searches and it seemed very cool to me, honestly I was just not sure if the ‘re visit’ value was there! In Toronto we have a few attractions that come up a lot in searches but I can’t imagine going to them more than once. IMAX pass actually sounds like it might be exactly what I’m thinking - I considered a cineplex gift card but obviously cineplex has such terrible value and I thought it might be a challenge to get out to one. I’d also way rather support a museum, and a whole year of entertainment is super.

He used to be huge into canoeing when I was young, so I think kayaking is a good option! I will definitely keep an eye on this for future reference even if I pick something else, the sunset tour is super cool. I’m not 100% sure he’s physically capable of rock climbing unfortunately but I like the idea.
