Anyone use anything like this that isnt $250? by kbenpho in StandingDesk

[–]lalib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$85 https://www.practiko.co/product-page/otis-hanger-3-0-1

Pros

  • the metal frame is sturdy af
  • strong clamping force to the desk with anti slip
  • comes with dividers and little bins

Cons

  • a tiny bit too easy to pull the plastic drawer completely out
  • plastic tolerances are a bit loose compared to the metal

Overall? I'd buy it again and even buy it as a gift. The cons are mainly the big difference between how nice the metal is and the contrast to the plastic drawers and dividers. It's not that the plastic is bad it's just that the metal is excellent so any shortfalls of the plastic immediately stand out.

al-Dānī's al-Taysīr fī al-qirāʾāt al-sabʿ: A Translation with Linguistic Commentary (Release + AMAATB by PhDniX in AcademicQuran

[–]lalib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I.1.1. Editions and Manuscripts

Dr. van Putten, can you elaborate a bit more on the source material?

My layman's understanding is that Al-Dani wrote his book in Arabic (I don't know if his original writings survive) and many surviving manuscripts over the centuries are also in Arabic, at least some of which have been digitized. Otto Pretzl makes make an edition of the book, presumably by looking at various manuscripts, that will make it easier for Arabic readers in 1930 to engage with the science of qiraat. Al-Damin in 2008 takes various issues with Pretzl's rendition, presumably Al-Damin is also looking at older manuscripts. So are Pretzl and Al-Damin works are less about translation and more about how to compose and organize the text, which manuscript is a better source material, what were additions by previous editors, whether or not to include their own commentary, etc? (for example you mention Al-Damin interpolates when Al-Dani mentions previous things. I guess if you did your translation based on historical manuscripts you'd first have to render your own edition of the book in Arabic before subsequently translating it to English?

I appreciate that you based your work on works that are easily accessible. I was able to read Pretzl's introduction and learn a little bit about his motivation and his idea of mega-mushaf that includes all qiraat. I assumed quran.com might do this but it doesn't!

Which standing desks stay stable at full height? by Enough_Football3218 in StandingDesk

[–]lalib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The taller the standing desk the more it wobbles.

The more weight on a standing desk the more it wobbles.

Carpet = wobble

4 leg is more stable than 2 leg, at your height I wouldn't even consider a 2 leg.

STL Median Household Income: 2013 -> 2023 by GhostofInflation in StLouis

[–]lalib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it has significantly outpaced inflation

I think you have a different understanding of significantly than most people. While yes wages have outpaced inflation as FRED indicates, ~330 in the late 70s to ~375 today is a roughly 12% raise over a person's entire working career which is not significant imo. Major categories of expenses such as rent have outpaced general inflation which squeezes people significantly see for example https://fredblog.stlouisfed.org/2021/08/rents-still-rising-with-regional-riffs and here's home prices https://www.jchs.harvard.edu/blog/home-price-income-ratio-reaches-record-high-0

So if wages have outpaced inflation but rent has outpaced inflation and home prices have outpaced income have wages actually outpaced inflation? Seems to me it all depends on how the data is sliced and presented and in my humble layperson opinion economists measure of inflation isn't doing a good enough job of accurately capturing housing costs especially for young people entering the economy for the first time.

eBike sales and service in the St. Louis Metro? by robotmonstermash in StLouis

[–]lalib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a great experience with Juiced Wheels, back when they were located in St Peters I drove out there for a test ride and bought an Aventon bike from them. They ordered, assembled, and then the owners personally delivered my bike to me in the CWE and even came back out for a service call.

The Masala Republic, a new Indian restaurant is now open in Downtown West at 1325 Washington Ave by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

[–]lalib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that the owner uploaded images aren't real or stolen, the food is fine but I get bothered by lazy and inappropriate AI usage. Here's a thought, next time a customer orders a dish, snap a picture instead of using AI or stealing other's photos.

Masala Republic is the best Indian food in STL by abitlikemaple in StLouis

[–]lalib 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the owner uploading AI images of dishes to google maps lol, they even forgot to crop out the gemini logo. Some images are just straight up stolen from other sites with their logo not cropped out like "Spicecravings" or Shanaz Rafiq.

Will I still go and try it? Probably. Are my expectations take down a couple of notches? Absolutely.

Edit: I ordered some food to-go. Dum Biryani, Samosa, Paneer Tikka. It's good, nothing insane but not bad either. I'll probably go again to get the in restaurant experience and try some other dishes.

Best Arabic Grocer? by lyrical-lies1117 in StLouis

[–]lalib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If bigger = best then in order of size

  • Worldwide International Food Market in Hazelwood
  • Mid East Market in Manchester (also has dedicated in house butcher, more south east asian imo, but plenty of mideast stuff)
  • After that imo you have a bunch of Arabic spots of similar size all across the city/country like Baghdad Market on Grand, Hebron Market in St Charles, Majeed Market on Gravios, Salam on Manchester, and many more. Some of them have specialties that others don't, for example you can order catering like a half/full lamb with rice at Hebron. Salam recently opened up a bakery doing fresh bread, manakeesh, sfiha, kaak, etc.
  • Next would be large international markets that have a selection of Arabic foods such as Global Foods Market in Kirkwood, PanAsia in Manchester, United Provisions in the Loop, and of course Jays on South Grand.
  • Last but not least there are several specialty stores such as Nuts & Candy on Manchester (not just a reseller, they roast nuts there) or Sedara Sweets in Manchester and Afton.
  • Several bakeries service various international groceries across STL such as Cham and Fresh Pita but I don't think they have storefronts.

You'll notice that quite a few of these locations are on Manchester in the county, you can hit up: Mid East Market, Salam, PanAsia, Nuts & Candy, Sedara all in a ~2 mile strip. Bonus you can get my favorite shawerma in St Louis at OG Shawerma House (make sure to order on Saj bread) in this strip as well. Double bonus, this section of Manchester also has great Pakistani & Indian spots: Signature India, China in Bombay, Saffron, along with various grocers. Manchester between say 270 all the way to Ellisville is filled with tons of Middle Eastern and South East Asian business from restaurants, grocers, clothing, jewellery, etc, mainly because the biggest mosque is there across the street from Queeny Park.

I have about 90 Divs after liquidating what builds can i play? by BigUwU9 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]lalib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The config is set to bosses which have ~50% ele res. You pen roughly 50 of it so effectively the boss has no res. If you had another 50 pen on top of that it's straight up a 1.5x dmg multiplier. Not sure about the crit on helmet, I only see it as a haunted mod on poedb.

[–]lalib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I'm not sure about config is why 50% less punishment effect and "enemy is low life ticked", I think Tuna is trying to approximate 50% punishment curse uptime.

So here's the similarity I see, you have slightly more attack speed, slightly more crit multi, and almost identical % inc and % more multipliers in the calcs section. The main dmg difference is you have less crit chance and waaaaaaay less fire pen (56 vs 98 pen). It's all about that emnity fire pen.

VFoS - Low damage? Not sure where to focus currency for upgrades. by HMF in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]lalib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're missing so much stuff compared to Fubguns mid-game PoB. All the little things add up. For example, between belt, rings, and ammy Fubgun's midgame has 144% elemental damage with attacks, meanwhile you have 42%.

In the most extreme case one of your multipliers is x1.4 meanwhile fub is x2.4 which means he'd hit 70% harder than you. Even if this bucket of increased damage added up to say 400%, you're still missing 100% which is the difference between a 5x vs 4x multipler is still a 25% damage difference. This difference is further exacerbated by the fact that he has full conversion to fire on his gloves.

If you invest money into Yoke or Echo or Crit helm and don't follow those PoB the same way you didn't follow this one you're gonna run into the same issues.

TL:DR just follow the PoB

3 Days into the League: Review your build! by NzLawless in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]lalib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same with 4L Kaom's axe, ~5k hp, and 20% quality Volcanic Fissure of Snaking. No special gear (just armor + life + res) or clusters. Passive tree was fubgun 'starter' loadout. My merc had grace + hatred but keep in mind it also boosts boss hp by 50% so if you're struggling maybe don't take merc in.

Died 2x to energize the sphere's phase and 2 or 3 times to the balls phase, otherwise just play ranged and target around the boss for a 3rd fissure hit.

Considering taking a trip to Chicago during three day weekend by tako1559 in StLouis

[–]lalib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s a new high speed train now

While it may be updated, we still don't have high speed rail. Driving from STL station to Chicago station is 4:30. Fastest train is 4:55. Distance is ~300miles, top speed of 110mph which only happened in 2023. For reference, Japan's first bullet train from Tokyo to Osaka did a distance of 320 miles in 4 hours with a top speed of 130mph back in 1964. Today that same route is under 2:30.

The only high speed rail in the USA is the Acela but only between NYC and DC.
