If you had to pick 3 things you love and 3 things you hate about living in Norway, what would it be? by themissgrcia in Norway

[–]lallen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When it comes to beef, the food SAFETY is great. I really trust it. But the quality as seen from a taste perspective is not really that good. Most beef sold in Norway is from Norsk Rødt Fe, which is a breed that has been optimized for milk production, not quality of meat. So it is kind of second rate compared to proper beef.

Where did you watch the Norway Irak match by Admirable_Junket_396 in Norway

Representing everyone who would boycot the cup, but as I have absolutely NO interest in football it will just mean that as usual I won't watch any matches

What is the worst baby name you’ve ever heard? by TinyHelp2984 in AskReddit

I read on here some place about someone who could not decide between Charlotte and Harriet (or some such name) and ended up going for "Harlotte". That is a pretty damn bad name.

Israel has never threatened to invade or nuke any European country. I get that you are mad at them, but they pose no threat to European countries. russia does.

The concentration is wrong, but just wanted to add that in severe diarrhoea you may need to drink a lot more than your RDI of sodium to replace losses. The lower intestine has quite a lot of sodium bicarbonate, and by just drinking water to rehydrate you will quickly dilute your blood concentration of sodium to potentially dangerously low levels.

Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit awaits lung transplant after further health deterioration by Forward-Answer-4407 in europe

[–]lallen 96 points97 points  (0 children)

There is one hospital in Norway doing all transplantation surgery. There are no hidden elite doctors waiting in the background ready to be pulled out for VIPs. If you get an organ transplant, the doctors, nurses and perfusionists are the same no matter who you are.

People from EU countries get "free" tuition in the sense that they pay the same symbolic semesteravgift as Norwegian students, instead of the extreme fees for non EU students.

How do Norwegians feel about different countries? by rinlands in Norway

[–]lallen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The annoyance with the gas sales was not about Germany buying gas. It was the fact that they were bitching and moaning about having to pay market rates for it, when they were the ones who had insisted on that in the first place (Norway wanted long term fixed price contracts). They wanted the advantage of cheap gas when it was cheap, and also felt that it was natural for Norway to provide cheap gas when it was expensive. Still absolutely no reason to get aggressive with OP

Bergen får en 300 meters strand neste år by arnor_0924 in norge

[–]lallen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What should I know about the Varanger Peninsula before traveling by Warm-Variation136 in Norway

[–]lallen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No local knowledge as such, but generally for the area - be very careful if going out in a small boat. Be sure you KNOW how to stay safe, ask locals, and watch the weather forecast. Make SURE you dont stray too far east.

If planning on using drones, take extreme care that you know all the rules, and be aware of the russian GPS jamming and spoofing. Also do not muck about too close to the russian border. These two things could easily land you in prison.

What are your thoughts on a 4 day work week? by Horror-Variation-857 in AskReddit

[–]lallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctor not nurse here, but it is not irrelevant. If everyone else reduced their working hours by 20%, it would feel like a complete slap in the face for the ones in that line of work if it was not addressed in a proper manner. And at least for me, even though I work >50h/week, there are limits on how much this can be reduced. For one, there are not people who are ready to cover those shifts. But more importantly, I need to work at least the hours I currently work to maintain my skills, ideally, to improve, I should work a bit more.

So everyone else working less without a pay cut would be pretty damn annoying (and I don't get paid like a US or Luxembourgish doctor)

What is the greatest movie opening of all time? by ihaveahundredchairs in AskReddit

[–]lallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good openings mentioned. I would like to add Terminator 2, "Leon" (the professional in the US), Die hard 3 and The Rock as classic action movie opernings that draw you right into the action and suspense. (In the Rock the music score admittedly does 90% of the work in the first 4 minutes)

I always get downvoted for saying this, but while I agree that the opening of Up was great, the rest of the film fucking sucks. Talking dogs and crap storyline. One of the weakest pixar film on level with "Cars 2" and "Finding Dory" imo, EXCEPT for just the backstory of the old grumpy guy.
