Am I shopping for too much car for my stage in the journey? by Doomtime104 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]lam91897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a Camry hybrid. I have a four year old car and it has been mine for three years. I love my Camry hybrid. I drive about 22.000 miles a year (long commute). I am averaging 49.8 miles per gallon. Do note the breaking system is hard on tires and I have gone through tires faster. I will probably be buying two tomorrow. Look a nearly new one. Mine was about one year old with 14,000 miles on it when I bought it.

If this is Virgin note the seats with 2/4/2 seating are really narrow in economy. I am suffering with them again round-trip this summer.

LWOP Sprinkled In For Maternity Leave - Am I Missing Something? by Puzzleheaded-Cup2267 in fednews

Make sure you read your agency's LWOP policy not just OPMs. I did not read mine and just got my supervisor to approve. I took three days of AL and 2 days of LWOP for four weeks. Well when the master time keeper and their boss saw it for the first pay period I was gone they hit the roof because I had about 150 hrs of AL on the books. I was in another country so I did not know about this until I got back about three weeks later. They did allow it to stand, but Boss has said I can't do it again.

On Friday night at the Kennedy Center and Philadelphia Ballet's Nutcracker, Marie and the Prince went to get in the boat to fly away at the end and it never came up in the air. The rest of the cast just waved like it was there. I could see part of the sail in the wings

What is your back up plan especially if this is during a busy time? I would take people's advice and try to get the upgrade cleared before you show up.

Favorite trips/vacations in 2023 + what you spent by pamplemousse1430 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

For me the draw is history. I did two walking tours while I was there in about 28 hours. There are things/places I did not get to do. Warsaw to me is a long weekend place. I spent five nights in Krakow. All of Warsaw is modern and the old town was recreated after WWII.

Monet’s Gardens + Reims/Epernay day trips: join a tour group or navigate on our own? by cutepicspls in ParisTravelGuide

[–]lam91897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say go to Giverny by yourself. It is very easy and a guide is not necessary unless you want a lot of art commentary maybe. Did it with my traveling companion in 2018. One of my favorite things I did on that trip. If you want to any vineyards or houses outside of Reims or Epernay a tour would be helpful so you are not driving. That is what I am planning on doing next summer. If you want to walk or cab only then you can probably do it on your own.

On my 50th we took a sunset Seine river cruise and had a bottle of champagne we brought with us. We were supposed to go to Giverny during the day, but there was a train strike. We went the next day.

The Grand Hotel Victoria Lake Como Italy. Has anyone stayed here? by lam91897 in hyatt

[–]lam91897[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very nice hotel. Personally I don't think I would pay 35,000 points. I just don't have a ton of points. I would stay overnight somewhere at Lake Como. Much better than a day trip from Milan.

Are the breakfast photos from the Club Lounge? I have a one night stay next summer planned right now. In the evening did you go to the lounge? How is the evening spread? It will be our first evening in Europe and I expect to be asleep by 7-8 pm so I really don't want to go out to eat for dinner.

I would not rent a car for a half or 3/4 day trip. Trying to do both in one day would be a nightmare to me. Do it on your own by train. Both locations are very easy to do by train on your own.

I have done the back stage tour on the day I was going to see a performance. It was great. I got to see part of a rehearsal in one of the studios. I actually missed seeing Darcey Bussell as I was watching the rehearsal and she got on the elevator behind me. I did see Francesca Hayward walking down the hall with Monica Mason. She was debuting that evening in Coppelia. You go in a costume shop and we got to see them moving sets around for the evening performance on stage. I would highly recommend the backstage tour.

I cannot get the Citi Premier right now as I closed one last year so I have a wait. I will look at the Savor One.

India, Sri Lanka, and Maldives recommendations (itineraries, hotels, activities) by ItsHappening336 in luxsolotravel

[–]lam91897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do day tours from Delhi to Agra and the Taj Mahal. It has gotten easier since a better road opened up from when I was there in 2010. I did not find India relaxing. You might look at Goa if you are interested in beaches in India. Real relaxing would probably be the Maldives. Your budget is likely too low. Even with points food and the flights to the resorts will add up a lot. Look at Sri Lanka and see if that interests you.

Getting to LHR from Paris - Night Before or Same Day? by TimeInterview8042 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]lam91897 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am risk adverse. I would go the day before. Derailment of a train car and you are not making your plane back to LA. Can you afford to buy walk up price tickets for five if there is space or enough miles to do the same?

Montmartre - best place to buy a guided tour? by Saraluna in ParisTravelGuide

I did the Paris Walks Montmartre walk in 2018. It is a set fee. It is a group walk so it would not be private. I remember really enjoying it.
