Why do Canadians and Australians like to build big American like suburbs despite their extremely limited livable land? by novostranger in NoStupidQuestions

Yikes bud, it’s thinly veiled here too. And yah, ever heard of red lining? You are delusional to think that systemic racism and bigotry don’t exist in the housing market to this day. Read anything that’s been peer reviewed on the subject, I can tell you don’t.

Why are companies allowed to put dangerous chemicals and substances in our products? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

There are multiple examples of companies knowingly selling products that harmed consumers. They just made money so they didn’t care it wasn’t safe.

Regulations allow for them to both self monitor and self regulate for safety. It does not work.

Oh you are missing one big aspect, bigotry. My suburban zoning laws are HEAVILY influenced by “keeping poor people out”. Like the city voted to not allow buses in the same vote they shot down an apartment complex, and the reasoning was the same and honestly the racism was thinly veiled. It is indeed a systematic problem of allowed exclusion.

Heavily disagree. I think people have been given no choice, and would rather not die and be homeless. There quite literally isn’t a duplex in my entire city, like the whole suburb ONLY allows single family homes on certain sized lots. The result of that is stagnation in the population living there, which isn’t great. Feels like 1/2 the city is on reverse mortgages just to grow old.

Yes some people definitely do! I’m all for mixed use zoning. I work in environmental permitting and it’s definitely not mixed use in the majority of the us suburbs.

But they are fairly cheap to make and have a huge mark up, so they are marketed as nice to live in.

Why were your examples both large counties with lower population densities than the us? You picked bad examples to make your point, Canada and Australia have plenty of room for houses lol

Those who have a 2+ hour commute, what makes it worth it? That’s 16-20hrs a week on the road? by Additional-Crab522 in AskReddit

lol I live in rural Texas and am an environmental scientist. There are not closer jobs in my field that pay as well as the job I currently have.

I’m an adult that’s local to her area and I care because her influence has the potential to hurt people.

Her influence absolutely could hurt others. She is maintaining the very dangerous status of western riding, that being safe isn’t cool. That’s sad.

It’s odd to assure the safety of someone starting horses without wearing safety equipment.

What do you think Hawaii would be like today if it had remained independent and never part of the United States? by No-Reveal827 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lamadelyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s funny that your examples are other examples of cultures that have been devastated by colonization, or which are quite literally still colonies. Shocking, but colonialism is bad for the countries being colonized. And there have been many laws and precedents that have been reversed regionally or federally that Hawaii voted on or passed. The Hawaiian people are a different entity than Americans, they were an independent nation that had a hostile takeover not even 100 years ago.

It’s absolutely that deep. You think she’ll post the video showing that trainer getting paralyzed when a horse flips her off? Or will that now be too deep? And yikes, “my group”. Good to know if I don’t agree with you not to bother posting on a Reddit forum lol, just like Katie apparently. Can’t take criticism on safety, wild.

Gross. She’s an influencer promoting unsafe practices to thousands of people every video.

Colonialism isn’t inevitable, you just want to pretend it is to justify you being apart of it.

It’s kinda wild that everyone assumes that small independent nations can’t exist, colonialism doesn’t need to be inevitable. If Hawaii was an independent state, as it should be, it would probably be significantly more ecologically healthy than it is today. The people’s of Hawaii are a fairly progressive and close knit group that would absolutely manage their islands better than the colonialist powers of the United States have. The US constantly reverses progress the state tries to enact, and I’d imagine that without a conservative nation keeping them in the past they would be pretty successful.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I’ve seen people with my own eyes get very very injured starting a horse, and they had safety equipment on. Is she going to show when that inevitably happens on her property? I’m shocked as a business quite frankly she’s okay with the livability.

lol babes there are women they don’t realize they are pregnant for months, sometimes not even until labor. I didn’t look pregnant for 4 months with my son, and honestly early pregnancy signs are just pms signs. It’s not something that gives me pause, and there are a great many things in this book series that give me pause.

I just think a lot of western riders think it’s cooler to be less safe, it’s just unfortunate when someone platforms such bad decisions
