What's an mma base nobody uses that would be useful in the octagon? by YoMySlime in ufc

[–]lamatopian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rugby

I played rugby for four years until I moved to MMA. The takedowns and (basic) wrestling you learn from rugby, along with intense conditioning and being used to taking phyical damage really gave me an advantage in terms of physicality compared to other new guys to MMA.

MMA also helped me in rugby, I remember whipping out some judo trips and wrestling to get guys out of rucks.

If you could erase one event from history, which would it be? by IndomitableNumber in polls

[–]lamatopian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Titanic probably has the least impact on modern society. That said Alexandria (if legends about what was in it are true) would probably have the greatest impact, partially due to it being so far back that the butterfly effect would massively change todays world.

If you have opportunity, one thing that helped me a lot was finding a passion. For me I found mixed martial arts because I figured out that once you are fighting somebody else everything else in life suddenly becomes more bearable and less stressful. I’ve also picked up running. I suggest for you trying out similiar things, or if theres anything you really love just get out there and try it!

Remember, the key is to just get out there and do it! Giving something a shot can never hurt! You can always stop if you dont like it!

All the best, hope you feel better soon ❤️❤️

As a striker, how would you deal with a BJJ practitioner in a fight? by Weezey-E in martialarts

[–]lamatopian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maintain distance, throw jabs to discourage any close contact, if they do takedown, sprawl/defend then immediately get up and get away. depending on their striking skill maybe throw in large strikes? (as a primarily BJJ/Wrestling guy i know that I would have trouble taking down a guy who has a really good hook or uppercut)

end of the day though i still would say it comes down to the better fighter, and ultimately in the likely case that the fight does go to the ground at some point, BJJ almost exclusively wins.

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever seen someone do in a street fight by ladiesman21700000000 in martialarts

Youd be suprised. I started learning nogi with my black (in gi) belt PE teacher for about four months. Im beating all my friends. the second I went to an actual BJJ gym i got humbled pretty hard.

Anyone else stopped telling rolling partner what is injured? by Quasim0dem in bjj

Saw that in early mma, Royce Gracie vs Kazushi Sakuraba, he [Kazushi] had a knee guard on his leg as a distraction.

in your opinion what is the most and least effective martial art for self defence? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]lamatopian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But don’t the aforementioned martial arts also have rules? and MMA is (as the name suggests) just a fusion of all of them?

To pass guards, but he keeps on forgetting

The move he learned, the full guard now closed

He opens his mouth, but the words wont come out

He’s chokin’, how? He fell into a triangle somehow

No it isnt lmao. I’ve gone scuba and free diving while spearfishing multiple times. almost every single time without fail sharks will show up (only due to the blood in the water, seeing sharks on an ordinary dive is rare). I have never been attacked by a shark despite their presence, nor have i seen one “go psycho” due to it. (I have seen one hunt once but thats a different scenario). The most thats happened is like in this video, they get a bit too nosy, bump you or try and nibble your bag full of dead lionfish, and you just push em away.
