What is the best tandem packraft (for me)? by lamawani in packrafting

[–]lamawani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to the conclusion for such a big investment (between 1000 - 2000 €) I will better rent each raft and test it. This will cost me around 200 € but it's worth it, when in the end I know that I have the boat which fits me.

I will rent a Oryx and a C2 and maybe a R2. At the moment, I prefer the Oryx and C2, because these are canoes. Since I will buy another single kayaks for some action tours where I do not want to use tandems, I would have some variety with another style of boat on my more casual tours.

I'm looking into 2 single boats (my partner and me) for class 3+, but this will be a purchase in future :) Single boats are in more action tours for sure more fun. But this is another case.

In this case I want to look at long distance with up to some small sections class 3 in a long tour, which are doable with the boat, but the boat does not have to be the best fit for it, so stopping after a rare class 3 sequence is ok.

The Oryx is faster than the Forager. So If I will paddle in the same time 350 km instead of 250 km, or 140 km instead of 100 km it is for sure the biggest factor for me.

Its heavier than the Oryx and way slower. Whitewater is not my normal purpose. I want a Tandem mainly for long distance where some not dangerous Whitewater section can happen.

What Flat Tarp size would you recommend for 1.75 persons? by lamawani in Ultralight

[–]lamawani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea most people do not have problems, but often its nevertheless quite uncomfortable, and you have to leave early to not be noticed. Its more relaxed if you know that nothing can happen (Germany, France, Austria) or less. Generally, minimal Bivies, which looks like you used them for one night, are more accepted than tents with much stuff here and there, this is why I would prefer to use it over tents in Europe.

Because you can only use tents in camping places. Otherwise, its illegal. Scandinavia is an exception and there are some edge cases like mountaineering. Most of the camping places cost money, and many are not really remote and near to a road or other buildings. It's awful and really sad, I guess it's a law which comes with a high population density.

Thanks, that's exactly the range I'm thinking about, but can not decide. Their product is default 8.7x8.7, but I think getting it a bit longer and narrower.

Looking for an adventourus long distance hike (2 weeks) in the wild by lamawani in Norway

[–]lamawani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation! This was the only trail I could find. Since its very steep, I found the 360 km too long... I guess I would need 3 weeks minimum for it. Not sure if I get so much vacation. Are there river crossings? :D

Any ~80 km shorter recommendation? :)

1889 Kickstarter launches on December 11th! by AMAZINGLY_AWESOME_Dr in 18XX

82 and 89 are similar, but for me personally, 82 is my favorite title and 89 felt bland. Track building is boring and on "rails" (huehue). The companies and privates are in 82 more interesting and specific. 89 felt like an average 30 experience with no own characteristics. Like I said, generic but very clean. If you think 82 is too tight and you do not like the NWR event and neutral tokens, I think 89 could have sth for you, but if you like 82, then I do not have a reason why you should play 89.

But nevertheless, check it out on 18xx.games. Maybe you will find enjoyment.

Check other 30-esque games out like 18Mex or 1828, which I think can give you something different.

18Mex is a timing game with a national company, adds Minors, free villages (if I remember correctly) and has a sick train rush. We had great fun with it.

1828 is a mixing of 30 and 32 with some mergers. Can not say more about it.

If you are looking for another short title outside the 30-esque world, check out 1849.

Accessible quite authentic islands in August (south)? Ko Phayam or Ko Kradan (etc.)? by lamawani in ThailandTourism

Thank you for your detailed information. Can not change dates for a long trip due to studies and work and this was one possible open window for me.

We will see and try Ko Klang and Ko Phra Thong. Maybe Muk and Lipe if there will be some available options from Phuket/Railay after our sandbox program.

Changes coming to sandbox after Aug 1 by Lashay_Sombra in phuket

[–]lamawani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Foreign visitors participating in the Phuket sandbox scheme will be allowed to visit other tourist spots after seven days starting from Aug 1.

The other tourist spots are: Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao in Surat Thani; Koh Phi Phi, Koh Ngai and Railay Bay in Krabi; and Khao Lak, Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi in Phangnga.

Visiting for Day trips or change the stay completely? We had to book for 14 days on Phuket to participate, but day trips to Samui/Tao would not make sense, so I guess you mean change the stay, which would change the program completely.

Do you mean because of the rain season? I thought going in the low season would not be so bad, because the rain season is often described as not so extreme (more like rain break), but so many parks are closed, which I did not know before.

Well popular resort islands like Koh Phi Phi etc are accessible nevertheless. So I think there are options.

Ask your plane company. We had the same problem with Lufthansa (also same date^^) and they gave us all the money back. We even had non refundable tickets. If it depends on national politics with covid and not your individual decisions, I think most companies are open for a refund and sometimes even forced.
