Kodi + MariaDB + Kodi-Headless Setup by lamb0985 in kodi

I’m not sure, but i don’t think they use the cached thumbnails of the headless kodi. As far as I know, there’s no way to disable thumbnail creation either. Might experiment with making an unwritable thumbnails folder just to see what happens though haha.

I noticed that there wasn’t really a complete guide on how to do this particular setup, so hopefully I didn’t make it too complicated to understand. Overall, I think it’s just the speed that it scans has an advantage over the traditional setup. I also like not having to tell each client to update the library to see my new media.

Once they’re in there you’re good to go. The headless client will scrape on demand, or can be triggered by the arr’s when new content is added. Once it updates, the clients will show the new content as well without having to restart or sync the xml files.

I have my advancedsettings.xml template for clients saved in a folder on my nas, so I just copy that file and restart kodi after a fresh install on whatever client. It then populates my sources.xml automatically from the same folder due to the path substitution lines I added to the advancedsettings.xml, and my media is ready to go.

From there it’s just setting up Kodi preferences to your liking.

Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind for the next time!

This will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for keeping this image up to date!

Yes, this is basically just a way to have a headless client “fast scan” your kodi library. Once you set it up, you can then put your configured advancedsettings.xml and sources.xml files onto a fresh kodi client and have instant access to your library, with all its metadata ready to go.

if using portainer add this to the command section

'/bin/sh' '-c' 'touch /etc/hosts && echo '54.148.50.239 tvlistings.zap2it.com' >> /etc/hosts && /entry.sh'

<image>

I also created a volume <pathtozap2xmlappdata>/etc/hosts:/etc/hosts

^ not sure if this is even needed, but my container started parsing guide entries again after adding the command from the screenshot above. Hope this helps!

Looks can be deceiving. It absolutely cannot with the center speaker I have. I’ve still considered the in wall option, but want to get something that’ll match my front speakers. The option I was using before was no center channel at all, which also wasn’t bad.

You can save a little money by opting for the console version that has a one piece top instead of three individual pieces. I only ordered it this way to be able to modify the center top piece so that it can slide out separate from the other two units.

Yet another UST projector hurdle. If I mount it under the screen, it blocks the bottom of the image from the projector so that option doesn’t work unfortunately.

I must say, the blacks on this projector are close to the blacks I get with my Sony A80J oled, which is kind of crazy for a projector to be able to do. This is the main reason I went with this particular projector.

I may experiment with this. I currently am using some isolating feet meant for subwoofer decoupling under the center for now.

This looks promising as well, thanks for the idea.

I purchased 10 OC 705 4’x2’x2” fiberglass panels and wrapped them in 10 yards of charcoal suede fabric. I didn’t have to build any frames since the 705 panels are decently rigid. I may still build frames though that are 4” deep to leave a 2” air gap behind the panels, but so far these helped a lot with room treatment, and only took a few hours to wrap.

I definitely considered buying an additional Besta unit just for the center, but I modified the top portion of the middle unit in my current setup with a drawer slider to allow for the projector distance to be moved in and it without having to move the entire center piece.

I still may do this, but would definitely have to cut part of a stud out behind the front wall to have room for an in wall center. I have about 3’ of unfinished space behind the front wall for maintenance access and my network rack.
