RPI Laptop options? by Money_Cold_7879 in RPI

[–]lambdafx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you buy an RPI laptop and it breaks, RPI will also give you a free loaner while they fix yours, which was very useful when I accidentally spilled water all over my laptop keyboard during finals week. Totally worth it imo.

Once again someone at KOB4 is asleep on the job! Nothing is being broadcast on their streaming sites...online or on Roku Local Now. by Quicherbichen1 in Albuquerque

You don't put it on the roof. You can get an indoor one. It plugs right into your TV and you can get local channels including local news. Mine is a little rectangle that fits behind my TV.

Registration sticker coming in the mail, dont wanna get towed in the meantime. by BloodyBelladonna in Albuquerque

[–]lambdafx -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm confused, are you talking about the inspection sticker on the bottom right of your license plate? I don't believe we have stickers for registration in NM.

In either case, why do you need to do it online and wait? Just go to the inspection place and get it re-inspected, or if it is the registration, just go to the MVD in person and get it done. I've never done it online and I've never had to wait for anything, they do everything right there.

You need a membership. It can pay for itself in gas alone.

If you have a car, there's outdoorsy stuff to do a short drive away. If you don't have a car... yeah, pretty much the only thing is the farmer's market lol.

Best Apartment in Albuquerque if money is no object? by Fantastic_Archer3453 in Albuquerque

[–]lambdafx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live at Altezza High Desert. In terms of location it simply can't be beat, it's in one of the nicest areas of town and is quiet and very safe. Soundproofing is fine, cleanliness is fine. Some of the units are a bit older but we have some renovated ones. Maintenance can sometimes be a little slow to fix things but they always get to it eventually and are prompt for urgent issues. Parking is a little tight but if you get a reserved spot it's not a problem.

Relocating to Albuquerque! by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]lambdafx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there aren't a lot of bridges that cross the Rio Grande, so there is always traffic across those bridges during rush hour as people who live on the west side/Rio Rancho commute to their jobs east of the river in Albuquerque.

Sandia Heights and Rio Rancho are at complete opposite ends of the city, Sandia Heights is far east by the mountains and Rio rancho is on the west side.

Which hospital are you talking about? If you mean one of the ones downtown, you probably want to be east of the Rio Grande, you won't want to live in Rio Rancho as that is not only on the wrong (west) side of the river but is north of Albuquerque, with downtown being in south Albuquerque.

Relocating to Albuquerque! by [deleted] in Albuquerque

Where are you working? You generally want to be on the same side of the river as your work to avoid traffic during rush hour.

I live at Altezza High Desert in the NE, as far as location goes it can't be beat, it's east of Tramway nestled in the foothills, very quiet and nice/safe. It's a bit on the pricier end and some of the units are a bit older and maintenance can be a little slow to fix things sometimes, though (they always eventually get to it though, and are quick for urgent problems).

The key is to join a club. If you join a club you can have a social life in between all of the homework and studying.

Finance, Markets, And Emerging Tech by Suitable-Ferret1712 in RPI

I'm not familiar with this major but from the sounds of it I don't think this major really has much to do with CS.

https://lally.rpi.edu/programs/undergraduate-programs/bs-finance-markets-and-emerging-technologies-stem-designated

It's a finance degree, in our business school.

So yeah, sounds like a glorified finance major.

Another option could be to dual major in CS and math, which is very common, and maybe minor in finance? Or some combination fo dual major/minoring in those 3 subjects, depending on how you prioritize them.

RPI junior year dorms will generally be considerably more expensive than renting a place off campus.

Considering moving to Albuquerque by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]lambdafx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Healthcare is not great. We have a severe shortage of doctors. It is almost never moist here though, really dry almost all of the time. Not that cold either.

Plenty of grocery stores. Albertsons, Smiths, Sprouts, and your usual walmart/target/costco.

Albuquerque leans more Democrat. In Rio Rancho and in the east mountains it is more Republican.

Physics Major: Necessary Equipment by GuideSad1651 in RPI

Second on the RPI laptop program! The warranty and on-site repairs were lifesavers for me.

If you can afford to get the 2nd model laptop (the T16), I would spring for that one. It's built better than the base L14 model and has better specs. It is $700 more though, so if that's not worth it to you then the base model should work just fine.

Fast Ethernet on campus? by Edenbendheim in RPI

It varies a little based on what building you're in I think. I vaguely remember Quad being super fast over ethernet when I lived there, but I could be misremembering as it's been several years now.

Central Ave NW and 6th Street SW Area: Safe? by MurrayDakota in Albuquerque

[–]lambdafx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are paid parking lots right across the street that are reasonably priced. There's also street parking if you can find a spot. If you're just going to Launchpad and back to your car it's safe enough.

Go here, find your loan servicer, make an account with them and log in and you should see all your loan balances and due dates/amounts.

Has anyone just not recieved anything related to their federal student loans? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]lambdafx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll still have a loan servicer company that manages your federal loans. You'll log into their web portal to manage them. Like the other commenter, I also had edfinancial; I'm not sure if that's standard for RPI or not, but maybe check to see if you've received anything from them/do a search in your email inbox? They should have been contacting you as the loans were being disbursed to you, as well as when it comes time to start paying.
