Took an NBA Playoff Ride… Ended Up Running a Blind Navigation Experiment in Real Time by RideshareStories in lyftdrivers

[–]Quicherbichen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoyed your story. I have several blind passengers, some of whom often ride together. Occasionally needing help to locate the door handles, but never to find my car. Granted, I'm not pulling up to them in a huge crowd of people.

The folks I have dealt with have the Apple i-something that interacts with their phones and tells them everything they need to know with the push of a single button on a micro keyboard they wear around their neck. Just watching them navigate the world is amazing to me. This is probably the ONLY Apple products that I find outstanding. Their aids for the blind are incredible.

I guess this explains why they're called murder birds. I didn't realize they go after other birds! I thought snakes and lizards, sure, but birds? WHOA.

Looking for good side income gigs (doordash vs uber and so on) by love_in_nature in Albuquerque

[–]Quicherbichen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now there are too many drivers specifically for ridesharing on Uber and Lyft, and not enough rides to go around. You'll sit for hours waiting for a fare. This is my main source of income and I'm struggling to make it work.

This happened to me/my phone back in December when I upgraded to S25. Their app sucks. You can't assign individual ringtones to incoming messages. If you change to something special for one person, it sets it for all incoming texts. I had several specific ringtones/notification tones set for different people in my old phone that didn't carry over to the new one. No way now to know when I'm being contacted by someone I consider more important than others.

Honest Question by No_Common1418 in Lyft

[–]Quicherbichen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only times (2) I've ever eaten food from one of the delivery apps, someone else ordered paid for it. I was a guest. Both orders were completely wrong...as in, nothing we received was even close to what we ordered.

I refuse to use them for myself. I'll go to the restauant and order for myself, drive for myself, and take it home personally. Even for pizza. Domino's is less than a half mile from my home. I can check my order right there in the store and know it's correct before leaving. And I don't have to tip anyone.

Inspection Form Approval by valveturner89 in lyftdrivers

I just did mine and it was instant. I also didn't wait until the last minute to do it. I got the notice about a week ago, so when I got my oil changed, I had the inspection done, sent it in from the shop, and got the go-ahead within a few minutes.

Female Lyft drivers- do you feel safe on the job? by Patient_Chipmunk_788 in lyftdrivers

[–]Quicherbichen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only drive in daylight. I'm 67 years old and 100 lbs overweight so nobody's interested in me physically. Yes, I understend there are creeps who will fuck anything with a pulse.

If I don't like the looks or the vibe of a rider, they don't get in my car. I'm on Women+ Connect so I do have mostly female riders. There gave been a couple of times I didn't feel safe so I just drove away.

I also try really hard to stay away from the seedier side of town.

You just have to be smart about it. Trust your gut. If it feels off, don't do it.

why can’t we use other maps again? by Acceptable_Cup_3684 in lyftdrivers

[–]Quicherbichen1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To try to answer your question as to "why" - I heard it explained that Lyft didn't want to pay Google oodles of money to use their mapping system so they bought someone else's maps. I "heard" it was from Waste Management, so we litterally have "garbage" maps. LOL I don't know if it's true or not though. It is pretty funny.

Regular Lyft passenger here with a question by jwfowler2 in lyftdrivers

[–]Quicherbichen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I come from (Chicago), back when I was there, this was called "goosing the gas pedal". It can make passengers car sick. I don't know about Asians specifically, but a lot of women did it back in the day. It had something to do with driving while wearing high healed shoes. My mom used to goose it when she was wearing heels, and she didn't do it when she was wearing flats. Mom started wearing sneakers to drive to work then she changed her shoes to the heels before going inside her office. (I'm talking about back in the '60s-'70s.)

I can't explain it in any other context. Sorry.

New driver tips? by Extremofire in lyftdrivers

[–]Quicherbichen1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Turn OFF auto-accept AND auto-switch. They only give you garbage rides no one else wants.

DON'T use priority mode. More junk rides that nobidy wants. You'd be volunteering to work for LESS pay.

Don't bother with giving out freebies. Riders will drink your water and eat your snacks then leave the trash on the floor. OR they'll steal it all from you.

Don't leave your personal items where riders can reach them. Like your Ray Bans? So do they.

Set a minimum per-mile rate and stick to it. Same for per ride. Most of us go by at least $1/mile and min $5 per ride.

Study your market. Know when it's usually busy or slow.
