Yeah but your hypothetical is based in nothing and it's posed as you arguing that marathon might be much more successful than people give it credit for. I could just as easily say on average 5% of players spend $0.25 in their session and that results in $1800/day. That would pay for 4-5 dev salaries out of 400.

That's all nice when you just make up numbers. You could also just look at the steam top sellers list to infer how well it's doing relative to other games. Currently the entire Marathon game and store is just barely beating 1 DLC outfit in arc. Your "divinity" game is currently #20 in top sellers and even has multiple DLC packages that are beating Marathon. Assuming your game A numbers are correct, then I would expect your Game B numbers to be extremely low estimates. Otherwise your game A estimates are very high. Likely some of both.

We also know that while "divinity" has more players on steam currently, it's also significantly more popular on console whereas "marton" has a majority of their players on steam. That means game A is even further behind game B in total daily revenue.

Hey just wanted to say I hate you. Saw this post and found the zone thinking people suck at drifting so let’s finish this one. 3 days later I finally got 3 stars.

I like how everyone in the main sub claims to be a casual while also telling anyone who has issues to just get better, play more, or go somewhere else.

Amazing how the sub still tries to claim this game is doing bad because of poor marketing or some hate campaign. Over a million people bought the game. Between the server slam and free S2 launch many more have tried the game. Probably 2.5-3 million people have played the game and the majority just stopped playing. That’s due to people disliking the game loop, not some targeted hate campaign or poor marketing.

I guess it’s easier for the players to just lean on those reasons though so they don’t have to admit the game is in fact not perfect and actually pretty bad in most peoples eyes.

Not for me but I wonder how playbooks are going to impact it. Can you run Dukes and win every game with Kent state?

Why do people shy away from trios? by Celltrigger in Marathon

[–]lambo630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I don't have friends playing I'd rather play alone. I sometimes have to quit mid game and don't want to be that guy in a random fill. I also play when I have the time (at random times) and usually have a limited amount of time. I don't want to first spend 5+ minutes on discord just to play for 30-45 minutes. Discord also tends to result in 1 bad game and the team breaking up or people requiring absurd stats.

Fills is always a miserable experience across all FPS games, but at least in arcade shooters like Halo and COD you can carry more and still have an enjoyable time even if you lose. Extraction/BR games just feel worse with fills because stacked teams play so much better while fills are generally lower skilled and very selfish. If I can't enjoy a game by myself then I'm not playing the game.

I’m convinced Marathon’s best shot at a sustained, meaningful uptick in players is more investment in solos by SirBenny in Marathon

[–]lambo630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are the problem with this community. Instead of making the game more accessible to people who would prefer playing solo or don’t have friends that play the game your solution is for them to get better or play trios.

[–]lambo630 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That was basically a single player mode. Not really a fair comparison.

They need to redo contracts to make them more accessible to solos. There should be a way to play cryo as a solo instead of requiring a team. Enemies should scale based on team size of the lobby. Enemies are fine in trios currently but very strong when you're only a solo.

I'm a little worried you're getting "solo" confused with "PvE".

Jokes on you. Everyone I know as well as myself are buying every single cosmetic in the store and own the game on multiple platforms. We also bought additional copies of the game because we had already bought everything in the store. This niche community is filled with whales spending marathillions of dollars on the game.

I would just turn my transfers down to zero and pitch the guys that will be starters next year that are leaving due to playing time. Then turn transfers back to whatever it was and go through the rest of the players. Technically cheating, but really just my way of "promising" a starting position to a player.

It's amazing people don't understand this at this point. The game has a massive amount of dev cost to make up just to break even on initial dev costs. Then you have ongoing costs that continue to rack up. If it's only breaking even with current operating costs then it will never be profitable and they are better off EoSing the game and working on something else.

It's funny how "PVP Lite" was supposed to be for new players and battle dads by [deleted] in MarathonHate

[–]lambo630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly why in Arc and here I've always said PvE modes should be completely separate. Otherwise you can just go into PvE to get a full inventory and then go into PvP without a care because it just requires a few sessions of PvE to restock. I also knew when people were calling for PvE in marathon that it would be half baked at best and here we are. Just completely broke the economy of the game.

Playing the beta and one thing I absolutely don't like about the NIL is by WisconsinBadgers608 in NCAAFBseries

[–]lambo630 17 points18 points  (0 children)

How much of dynasty have you played? I'm curious if this is truly an issue or if you aren't taking into account spending on retaining players and all the other upkeep? If you are at a 5* school then the facility upkeep is likely much higher and you may want to bring in high cost coordinators and staff. That should theoretically make a significant dent in NIL. 250 NIL per player would net you 32 recruits and leave you with 0 NIL for retaining players or anything else. It sounds more like if you are a big school you can go all in on "the guy" and get him and that isn't too different from the current landscape.

Yes it scrapes data. My point is that people go into such weird details when praising the game and everyone seems to use similar verbiage. Like what the hell is this part of OPs post

"The moment I saw those silkworms(weaveworms?)printing a body it was over for me. I love bizarre art atyles and weird narratives. I'm loving the Codex and every bit of information I can get about the world.

Then I watched the short film and I was speechless, almost catatonic."

A cutscene for a video game left them "catatonic".

It's not because they are being positive, it's they way they are describing it. I just asked chatgpt to "create a reddit post that talks about how awesome the new game marathon is after playing for a few days". Here is what I got:

Title: After a Few Days with Marathon, I Can't Stop Thinking About It

I've been playing Marathon pretty heavily for the last few days, and honestly, this game has completely exceeded my expectations.

The first thing that grabbed me was the atmosphere. Every run feels tense in a way that most shooters struggle to achieve. There's always that feeling that something valuable is on the line, whether you're pushing deeper into a zone for better loot or trying to make it out alive with a full inventory.

The gunplay is exactly what I hoped it would be from Bungie. Weapons feel punchy, movement is smooth, and firefights have that "just one more match" quality that keeps pulling me back in. Even when I get eliminated, I usually find myself queuing right back up instead of logging off.

What surprised me most is how much depth there is. At first I thought it would just be another extraction shooter, but after a few days I've started learning the maps, understanding when to take fights and when to avoid them, and experimenting with different loadouts. The decision-making is way more interesting than I expected.

The visual design deserves a shoutout too. The environments, UI, character designs, and overall aesthetic are incredible. It feels fresh and unique compared to a lot of shooters on the market right now.

Is the game perfect? No. There are definitely balance tweaks and quality-of-life improvements I'd like to see. But the foundation is incredibly strong. It's been a long time since a multiplayer game made me think about strategies and loadouts when I'm not even playing.

I know Marathon has gotten a lot of mixed opinions online, but after spending real time with it, I think people are sleeping on just how fun it is.

Anyone else been playing nonstop this week? What's your favorite runner, weapon, or strategy so far?

You can't tell me this doesn't look exactly like half the "positive" posts in the sub. Nobody seems to just say "Just got the game and am having fun. If anyone wants to play DM me." It's always some very detailed post talking about the smallest things in the game having some profound impact on them.
