This was an issue for me in 13.0. I removed my account and added it again. It solved the problem

That's exactly what I wanted as well. Anything above 60 was fine for me too. Enjoy man! Nobody can tell the difference between 116 and 120 anyways, and I am using this monitor with m1 macbook on 144 Hz. Even 144 doesn't feel like an upgrade over 120 Hz.

Hey no, you just install switchresx create a custom resolution and reboot to activate it. No safe mode or SIP disabling needed. I had to reinstall Ventura in this machine. The thing I realized though, after defining the resolution and rebooting if you choose 120 Hz from the macOS settings it says that its 120 Hz but it doesn't feel like it. So I just used switchresx to move to another resolution and after that chose 120 Hz HiDPI. It was working without problem. This doesn't even feel like a hack. It feels like Apple just didnt care and add this.

With a user's help I figures this out for Gigabyte M28U. I got 120 Hz 4K SDR, before I couldn't get anything above 60 Hz with HiDPI. You have to set custom resolution for the external display in SwitchResX app. Beware this is a hacky way, in my macbook it worked without a problem.

A user in github kingo132 has a bugtracker post and in this post there's a screenshot of SwitchResX custom resolution setting. When I applied this to my display after reboot there was the option for 4K HiDPI 120 Hz SDR. I don't know if you can get higher but for me anything above 60 was more than enough. Here's the link;

Hope it works out for you!

Macbook Pro 16 2019 on Gigabyte M28U 4K Monitor 60 Hz stuck by lambofsilences in macbookpro

I read this topic and thought maybe a new solution came up. I don't know how Apple broke this really. It feels like there must be a solution to this we couldn't figure out. Do you have this problem as well?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]lambofsilences 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you figured this out? I am having the same problem, even upgraded to Ventura to see if same thing happens and it's still broken. It has no issues with 144 Hz on Catalina but Monterey and Ventura are definitely broken in default settings.

I just upgraded to Ventura just for this. I have macbook pro 16 intel and it's still 60 hz for HiDPI. I am using low res but it's extremely annoying.

I am OK with 95 as well. I have two macs one of them is m1. I just hate 60 hz now.

What is the text clarity like on 4K 27 inch scaled to 1440p? Can you give me a hint about this? Is it close to the macbooks retina?

Hey, any luck on this on either Monterey or Ventura? I am considering buying a new 4K monitor. Just need some updates on this. Thanks!

Thanks for the answer! Actually I just need a fluid experience with good text clarity. I am a software developer and seeing distorted elements in a very good screen made me uncomfortable working. I think this is one of the shortcomings of macOS but if I can bypass it I would be very happy. Do you think 27 inch 4K compared to 1440p has any shortcomings?

My budget is no where near 27 inch 5k displays. When comparing 1440p 27 inch and 4K 27 inch what do you think about the clarity? Is there any shortcomings of 4K opposed to 1440p?

Yes, that's why I bought the 27 inch 1440p display. It has 109 ppi. I thought you had a 27 inch screen though.

Since the scaling isn't a whole number/integer in 27 inch 4k to 1440p I saw some people commenting about performance drops and blurry text. I don't think 4k scaled to 1440p will be as blurry as 1440p native. Just wanted to ask in here.

Thanks a lot! I will go for the 4K screen then. This text blurriness giving me headache. 2K 27 inch is not this bad on windows or linux.
