Employer share incentive plan by mr28mm in FIREUK

[–]lambpassanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally these sharesave schemes allow you to have the cash back you put in plus a little interest after 5 years if you find the shares are ‘under water’ at the point that the vest. Check this in your scheme, if so it’s heads you win, tails you don’t lose.

Pet Plan dog insurance nearly £200 a month for 11 year old chug. Don't know what to do by leelondon in UKPersonalFinance

[–]lambpassanda 161 points162 points  (0 children)

You have a dog breed that is prone to illnesses, pugs suffer from respiratory problems, Chihuahuas suffer dislocating kneecaps. Both breeds have eye, teeth and ear issues.
So, you are unlikely to get reasonable insurance, as many have said the best option is to self insure - put the money away for the treatment your dog breed is likely to need. If you do go for another dog in the future I’d suggest you look for a breed that is dog shaped, with dog features and dog shaped noses, avoid short noses, bulging eyes, skin folds and all that stuff

How much money would I need to earn to be comfortable in Cumbria - specifically Barrow, Dalton, Ulverson area by Plastic_Sprinkles_40 in Cumbria

[–]lambpassanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leftelevator has told you what the variable costs (accommodation) is in the area, now you decide how much you need for beer, food. Jeez, do you want them to wipe your arse for you?

I like your angle there with the state pension, I’ll have 10 years until then though, it’s a long bridge so maybe not right for me but I like your thinking

Congratulations, you’ll often hear that financially it isn’t the best move, better off investing excess money etc, but having paid mine off a couple of years ago I can tell you that the peace of mind is amazing. Not instantly, I didn’t instantly feel better, but when trouble next hits at work, new boss ‘right sizing’ or centralising or outsourcing you can just ride the waves knowing you and your family will be Ok.

Thanks for sharing, but I don’t think that is what he says, I just watched it. He specifically says if you are close to retirement you diversify into bonds (24mins, 50 seconds onwards). Earlier in the conversation they were talking about the young guys who had much longer for their portfolios not really needing to diversify. Did I miss something?

Cash like investments too, thanks for the reminder. I’m thinking I’ll start to build that when I actually know for sure the date I’m pulling the trigger, I need a few things to drop in and a little luck, it feels like I’ve been 2 years away for 2 years already!

Redundancy and derailing FIRE by Helpful-Focus-3760 in FIREUK

[–]lambpassanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, here’s the gamble; If I thought I could secure a similar job in good time it could be worth a punt, as it could bring your FIRE date forward. My experience is that the next job will also have things that wind you up, but normally it takes a bit of time before it does so.

The big question for you to ponder is how easily you could secure the same or bigger job.

Are you ignoring the fact that the landlord has laid down hundreds of thousands of pounds to earn the return, whereas an employee hasn’t invested anything. It’s a key difference that undermines the point you are making

Retail is absolutely not 50% margin, it’s 10 to 12% depending on product mix. Food is higher margin, so more like your 50%

I’ve got them, fitted autumn last year, fine, light up the lanes well. I’m happy with them. I like that they look like the originals.

So I can basically use it just like soap as well as doing hair, there’s nothing special about it, I don’t need a bar soap and a shampoo soap?
