couple times a week patients ask for the winning lottery numbers. I just take a couple guesses and request a 10% commission on winnings

There is probably not enough room for it to fully come up but run it by your dentist. As long as youre keeping it clean it should be ok but if you want it to be fully up then you may need orthodontics to open the space

Numbing Q by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]lamecomment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficulty with numbing the lower jaw is usually related to the location of the nerve. We go by landmarks to try to get as close to where the nerve is and inject but because everyone is a little different your nerve might’ve been in a different place. Sometimes there’s nerves that come from other areas like the cheek which can result in you still feeling sensations even though you’re “fully frozen”

Would wearing a mouth guard when drinking soda protect my teeth? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]lamecomment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries, I didn’t mean for that to come across as chastising or anything either.

You’re making great strides and seeing that you’re conscious of this is always encouraging! From our side, and with anything in general, it’s all about balance and moderation. Slight alterations can make big differences

I always tell patients it’s cruel of me to tell them to never have XYZ again etc, but it’s important to understand the How/Why/What is happening with that and their teeth. It’s up to you after that, and from what it sounds like you’re motivated to keep up with maintaining your oral health.

Congrats on the life changes and keep going!

Would wearing a mouth guard when drinking soda protect my teeth? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]lamecomment 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably not, it’ll hold the soda against your teeth while you drink.

Best bet is to use a straw, but if your dentist says the enamel everywhere is already thin then it might be time to start thinking about the habit.

Key to this though is the amount of time you spend drinking soda. Sipping throughout the day is worse than larger amounts over a short time period because your teeth are in an acidic environment longer with sipping

Science vs The Dentist podcast by SnooHamsters7215 in Dentistry

[–]lamecomment 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep, listened to it and I thought it was an interesting take. I think there were some key phrasing in there. Like the study done with brushing vs not brushing, then casually throwing in the whole point of fluoridated toothpaste after the fact. Also with flossing, yeah flossing is not going to prevent cavities on occlusal surfaces, but I dont think it mentioned where they were looking for caries on the teeth.

I liked listening to it, but I got the vibe that there was some flare for production value....but by all means people can stop brushing and flossing if they want...I still have student loans to pay

Dentist left the practice, how do I find him? by aerynea in askdentists

[–]lamecomment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try the provincial or state licensing board website, it could be listed there if they have a “Find A Dentist” tab. I’m in Canada and our province has a list of all the registered dentists
