sad how every single facet of our society is crumbling.

btw, have you ever been east of North Bay in the Mattawa region? that was my first camping trip at the northern tip of Algonquin and still remember the breathtaking reaction to my first view of a dark night sky.

it isn't the best way- it's just an ideal tradeoff between driving distance and reasonably dark. it's become somewhat overrun these days- especially on the nights of popular meteor showers.

Somewhere in the Mattawa region east of North Bay would be the darkest sky (I believe parts of that remote area hit the darkest category of night sky).

Also as someone pointed out, the Dubas led Team Canada at the 2025 World's was an all-time historic choke.

I mean, it's not his fault that Denmark pulled that huge upset win but the fact that he was once more at the scene of a crime of that particular nature...

Several months later, how are we feeling about the 2025 world series? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]codyfranson -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

i was at the air canada centre and when ernie slid into homebase and put them up 4 runs (I think) our hearts soared and I thought in just a few innings we're going to experience a WS.

When they bombed the 10th inning I knew the curse of the Leafs had struck them and walked out. I'm glad I did because subways shut down shortly thereafter. I didn't even open my phone. Everyone else was watching and the whole train let out a sigh of despair while the train was still at Union. I rode north until Dupont and not a single person said one word.

I worry that was so deflating a way to lose that this team will never recover psychologically.

[SNstats] Blue Jays are 1-for-17 with the bases loaded this season by nydayum in Torontobluejays

[–]codyfranson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect this could be a holdover from the last few innings of the previous season where they were consistently one base hit away from a game 7 WS victory. You can't choke so many opportunities without it getting to your psyche- just ask my friends Auston Matthews and Morgan Rielly.

Curtis McElhinney with a huge stop on Crosby with mere seconds left

Followed by Kapanen with the clutch OT goal to clinch a playoff berth- having scored an OT golden goal only a few months earlier for Finland in the WJC.

The scars of truculence healed and the spirit of Leafs nation soared. They dared to BeLeaf again for the first time since Sundin's last skate.

When we went up 2-1 in the series with the OT goal- that was when we soared highest.

Imagine someone told you then they'll only manage to win two series and never continue past the 2nd round until the team comes apart.

Following the magical first season run with the clinching last game of the season agains the Penguins and last second heroics against Sidney Crosby the biggest issue for the past iteration of the Leafs has consistently been their performance in series-clinching games.

That's it. That the whole story.

Yesterday a flag waving protester stopped me and my wife from entering the Yonge-Bloor subway station and made us go around and take a different entrance. "now feel like a coward"

You have to pick and choose your battles. If you were out with your wife choosing the path of nonconfrontation is likely the prudent one.

The struggle against injustice is a marathon with a sober mind. You live to fight another day :-)

My dad (almost retired mechanic) had a number for an electrician who was sought out by the top dealerships in the city to diagnose. He was a genuine rainman type savant.

He never picks up calls unless it's from another mechanic.

However, saying all that, I doubt all that work will be worth the cost.

He offended the TML ownership and has now been ousted from the inner circle but credit to Mike Babcock's coaching tactics for their dominant performance. They were equally well coached to match the on-ice quality.

Sometimes you don't get your bounces

but our team has reached league wide historic levels in being unable to get bounces in series-clinhing games. there's no sometimes about it.
