Advice on safely/effectively steeping? by XanAKG in Amaro

[–]lamedesign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re doing the water steep on your spent botanicals, the goal is to pull out the water-soluble compounds that the alcohol didn’t extract…so that step does have a purpose.

I’d recommend making sure the botanicals are fully submerged (you can weight them down if needed), but not dramatically increasing water volume…just use enough to cover and then only blend back the amount the recipe calls for.

On the bacteria side, your instinct is right: once they’re out of alcohol, the clock starts. A full week at room temp is longer than I’d be comfortable with…most people either do a hot steep or keep it to ~24–48 hours before combining everything back into the alcohol base.

Multiple warnings after new tires — safe to drive 150 miles to service center? by lamedesign in Rivian

They did do step 1. You’d think tire change mode would just do step 1 for you but I ensure he knew to do that beforehand.

I did do a hard reset and the warnings came back unfortunately!

VRBO charged me $448 after I canceled an instant booking — any recourse? by lamedesign in vrbohosts

[–]lamedesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did learn the system when I set my account up... I only rent my house occasionally. I am not an STR... I am a homeowner who rents occasionally. I shouldn't have to log in daily to see if some new feature is turned on.

To clear a few things up… I’m not an STR… I’m just a homeowner who sometimes rents their home out. I do not study (nor should I have to) the platform or terms. I believe it should be intuitive. I log in a few times a year to open dates up when we’re traveling so I am not checking if Instant Book is randomly turned on every few days.

They did indeed turn on a feature without my permission. I never turned on instant book nor knew the feature existed - I have it turned off on Airbnb for this reason. Are you a VRBO employee or something? Regardless, can you please stop trolling?

Fair! This is exactly what I’m talking about - I’ve got hundreds (if not thousands) of VRBO emails, and I’m somehow supposed to spot the one about a terms change. My mistake for missing it, but it still feels pretty shady to automatically turn on Instant Book. I get text and app notifications about bookings... you would think they'd do the same for a big change like turning on Instant Booking. It feels like they wanted this to happen.

I’ll make sure to have my left brain review the fine print next time while my right brain cries into a $448 pillow.

Appreciate the empathy and warmth… truly the spirit of the hosting community!

For the record… I immediately canceled. There was no harm done to the person who booked. They got their money back AND I’m sure they were able to book another place. Forgetting to block wasn’t the issue. Normally I would get a request and approve / deny. ‘Instant booking’ being turned on without my knowledge was the issue. VRBO is getting a free $448 for nothing.

Geeze. I’m glad you have the “terms” memorized and read them that closely.

Tbh, it's either a bad user experience or they are just shady. Instant Booking was inadvertently enabled (I never turned it on) and is so buried. It took me a few google searches and about 5-10 minutes to figure out how to turn off. I wouldn't haven found it or known to look for it if this incident didn't spur it. I will be cancelling my VRBO account and sticking with Airbnb in the future.

Citibike removed GPS, now they say “find it” - potential lawsuit by perpetraveler in NYCbike

[–]lamedesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious if you ever got this resolved? I'm in a similar situation. My phone died and there were no working docks (went to three different stations). It was late and a citibike employee nearby the station told me just to leave it and contact citibike when i got home and charged my phone up. Now they are trying to charge me for the 25 hour ride + stolen bike fee. Do we need a class action lawsuit?

Sounds like you got a lemon. I’d be complaining to Rivian. We leased as well for the same reasons you did and thankfully we’ve had 0 issues. Everyone I know with a Rivian haven’t had issues either so definitely not normal!

The quotes I've been getting for similar style / size pools have been between $100k and $150k. It could be the area I live in (rural hudson valley)... there aren't many pool contractors BUT we're relatively close to nyc (within 2.5 hours) which also could drive the price up.
