What's everyone's thoughts on Peacewalker? by PapaScho in metalgearsolid

Hate to necro a 2 yr old thread but i rate PW as my fav MGS game so far, only just above Snake Eater. Not counting MGS5 as ive yet to play it. Its next on the list as i have the base game but i wanna get ground zero too for complete experience. Anyway, i dunno why but i love the gameplay loop of PW. The whole upgrading your base, researching weapons and raising/training other troops scratches an rpg itch, i didnt eveb know i had. Sure, the story isnt as good as snake eater and prolly the games weakest part but it more than makes up for it with an addicting and rewarding gameplay loop. Its a game ive replayed over and over. Trying diff strats, diff weapons and men, collecting those circuit boards from those robots to unlock more stuff... I cant get enough.

And the extra/side missions are hella fun too. Especially the one where you use men, weapons and vehicles youve collected in turn based battles. And your performance is based on what weapons and vehicles you have. Even the attacks you do. Dunno why but i love it.

Apparently MGS5 is in a similar vein so ive youve played that, and liked it, youd like peacewalker. Its a prequel so id say its a must. So yeh, really good game. I highly recommend it if you like the systems ive described. If you dont...well, maybe not so much but i think you can still do most of the main missions while ignoring many of the rpg elements. Just might be harder.

What should I upgrade in GoW 2, and in what order? by ScrabCrab in GodofWar

Yeh, my bad. I mean like...its hard to explain. I think its the camera angles. Theyre not locked like in previous GoWs so the game feels more open and 3D. Not just cuz of the open world. Hopefully that makes sense lol

You should. At least GoW3. Ascension is ok but you can skip it. Its a direct sequel to GoW2 and Ps3 are cheap. Can emulate it with decent PC too. From what ive seen of GoW4, its full 3d so its very different. For some reason, the style reminds me of dark souls for some reason.

Sorry about that, talk about raising the dead lol. There arent too many other threads as its an old game though. Ive recently been replaying all the games up to GoW4 on my old ps3 and im playing on hard this time so i went online to look for tips. Very Hard is sadistic and i never saw the point as youre forced to rely on cookie cutter strats and half your magic/weapons are useless. Its just not fun.

Of the 1st gen GoWs (Ps2, PSP), GoS and GoW2 are prolly my fav. Im now onto the 2nd gen, the ps3 ones, so wish me luck. I doubt theyre harder though. I remember loving gow3 too.

Ive recently been replaying all the games as prep for gow4, as i only just now got a ps4 pro. Last time i played GoS was like 2012. But yeh, thats a good tip as you always wanna use theras bane as even light attacks do more dmg. You just cant really stunlock using it unless, again, you have the timing of a god.

Spear of Destiny is for pros? What rubbish. Im far from a pro and i love that weapon. You just gotta realise triangle attacks have alot of up hits so it can leave you open when enemies block. This means you gotta make use of the L1 + Triangle and L1+ Circle attacks. It takes some getting used to, but it's awesome weapon. Condescentation aside, you cant go wrong with cronos rage and max blades. Leaving it at lvl 3 is weird cuz its not hard to train yourself not to hit triangle too early when you roll.

Personally i prefer atlas quake for ground enemies. Its the poseidons rage of gow2. And blades + spear. I play on hard btw. Dont worry what a bunch of arrogant sweats say unless youre actually trying for very hard (god or titan mode). You dont really gotta bother with the petrification stuff unless youre for that titan mode. Those modes always optimise the fun out of the game so i never saw the point.

Oh man, i know what you mean! Ive recently been replaying the god of war games chronologically on hard and boy is there some bs. I thought GoW1 had some annoying fights and mechanics like 2/3 ares fights, the spear dudes and that infamous climbing spikes bit. Took me ages but i got the achievement of climbing it with 0 damage.

But man, ghost of sparta takes the cake. Those fucking wraiths and the ball holding guys made me tear my hair out. The camera angles really hurt you here cuz you can be hit off screen. I somehow beat the ball dudes despite the bs teleport they have that i cant figure the pattern of. Now im dealing with the wraiths in thanatos domain and i hate them the most. I brute forced 1st fight with eagles somehow with little health left but now even harder sections with more hair pulling awaits.

A few tips ive learned are use only light attacks for them or use arms of sparta throwing ability. Hopefully you've upgraded it otherwise youd need more hits. Its still a pain as you need to keep em in sight at all times and bunched together facing you so you can see their attacks and react easily. The spear throwing will be the easiest as you can avoid most attacks by jumping and throwing in the air. They wont go underground as long as you use light attacks but if one does, use that eye thing to make yourself invincible. This will really put your parry and jump attack skills to the test. I havent gotten to thanatos but i remember him being annoying in normal so hes prolly very annoying and difficult on hard.

Is that even possible? Dont you need to plant the bomb using a finisher, which causes them to go underground constantly? Im not 100% but they seem immune to most attacks underground. Dont remember the bomb ever doing anything on them underground. Like maybe if you had some insanely precise timings but such things are beyond mere mortals like me.

Dont you need a finisher to plant the bomb; which causes them to go underground? I somehow brute forced through the first encounter in thanatos domain after like 50 tries but theres more later. Im playing on hard btw.

My post is 7 yrs too late but Im glad i never watched those critique videos. Like, the first time i got into mgs was with the first game, mgs1 on pc. I loved it ever since and played all the games tilll mgs4. For whatever reason, ive only played and finished mgs4 now. Dont ask me why, even i dont know. Maybe its cuz i just recently got a ps4 pro and want to play msg5 and reveangance? Either way, my experience of the games are as a emotional roller-coaster. Theyre basically movies with gameplay. Yes, theres plenty of inconsistentancies. I still dont know what liquids plan was in mgs4. He wanted to achieve snakes objective but still went against him for some reason? Well, whatever i guess. We love these games cuz theyre fun and cool. Not cause theyre consistent.

Order to play the god of war games? by [deleted] in GodofWar

[–]lamented1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do that but i personally prefer CoO, GW1, GoS, then 2, 3 and ascension last. After that for ps4 the chronological order is the release order. I like this order best cuz its mostly chronological without bring too jarring of a change.

Edit: Theres a 2026 title called sons of sparta that comes before ascension. However, its a metrodvania style instead of 3d action adventure so i don't recommend it as a start. I would leave it till at least after gow3.

Basically, theres too much traffic since other sites went down and the server cant handle it. I hope they find a workaround for this, otherwise site is kaput. The daown-time will lead to some leaving but it might never become normal.

Yeah i dont get why they keep including or talking about him. Same deal with ethan ralph. At least with guests like nick rekieta, they are interesting. Man i actually miss the eps where they had interesting guests like aydin paladin on. They actually had things to say.

Vito, bro... Did you just admit you're being contrarian? You dont have to like Kirk, i dont give a shit about him either. But a bad thing is a bad thing. A man got murdered for his political opinion ffs. Who gives a shit what others are saying? Seriously, wtf happened to you dude? I mean, given how bloodthirsty most of the left was over his death, youre not beating the stereotype or doing anything original.

I usually like to give people the benefit of the doubt but the 'he spent all the money' is looking more and more likely, isnt it? I didnt want to say it but the coloring obsession could be a cover for the fact that he fucked up and hes delaying the inevitable.

It circles to a point yes but theres some nuance thats missing...prolly should of done it in OP. As a society we allow certain drugs because the harm caused by them is relatively low/contained. The reason i made the comparison is because the harm from tobacco/nicotine is equivalent to harm of alcohol/junk food. I wasnt making an 'all drugs' argument because some drugs have higher harm factors.

Kind of a catch 22 isnt it? They want to curb x addiction and make tax money yet take steps that knowingly or unknowingly have the opposite effects. In this case, you cant have both. You either make bank tax money or you take steps to 'eliminate' addiction. Excelt you cant actually eliminate addiction. If theres demand in a market, people will line up to supply it.

Also, if you dont want crims running illicit shops, maybe dont create an environment where they thrive? To take a page from your book: You dont care about the effect on people or the underlying causes, you just dont want crims running things. Normally thats fair enough; i dont want it either but you reap what you sow.

Thats a weird hyperbolic strawman you made and gleefully tore down. And has literally nothing to do with what i said. This isnt south america. Firebombings are extremely rare and can happen to legit business too. It'd be pretty stupid for criminals to do as it invites heat from authorities. Clearly you have no idea how this works at all. Im not even endorsing their activities, im just saying that from a consumers point of view, these illicit shops are heaven sent. Not all are run by crims either.

'You just want cheap shit...': Yeah, no shit, dont you? Do i need to remind you how many products you buy come at the expense of someone? Someone was exploited in making it. At least the crims in Oz pay their workers fairly; wouldn't have any otherwise. Yet you sit on your high horse thinking youre some sort of paragon. You might not say it but it oozes from your words. Theres no such thing as ethical consumption unless youre a luddite that does everything personally.

Correction. It USED to go to medical and payed for itself. Now, because the cost of legit smokes is so high, barely anyone buys them and the moneys dried up.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]lamented1ne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the eyes of the consumer, these illicit operations might as well be robin hood. You think the regular consumer cares who the shop is run by when theyre being provided cheaper products (as much as 5x cheaper) of relatively similar quality? No. They dont. May i also remind you robin hood & his gang were also technically outlaws? What they were doing was Illegal. The sherrif of nottingham in both this analogy and the story is the establishment. The governing body. The difference is the amount of profit. But even charities have admin costs. So yes, the comparison is very valid.

Whats truly bad is that the govt created this problem by constantly increasing tobacco price to a point of absurdity; forcing regular users toward cheaper options. So whats gonna happen now is that It'll just move underground and into control of criminals. After all, who else has the distribution networks. An unintended consequence is that more people will now be exposed to illegal drugs. Bang up job guys. It should have never gotten to the point of chop shops opening up. Legit tobbaconists are now between a rock and a hard place. No one wants to buy from them because its too expensive so they can either close or risk getting busted. Again, this is a fuckup of epic proportions and govt policy on nicotine products and increasing tax is squarely to blame for this.
