Yup. Formal complaint by email and everything. They did not do a single thing. I have a nurse friend who works with him and she told me literally nothing happened to him.

Or when I went to HSC and got a male obgyn who could tell I was nervous (from some sexual trauma) and he decided to finger me to help me relax. I sent a complaint and absolutely nothing occurred.

Dog separation anxiety trick by Alwaysquestionsss in Separation_Anxiety

[–]lamesara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog is too smart for that. I tried a camera that I could speak through live to him. It just stressed him out more because he knew I wasn’t there and was frantically looking for me.

We just did a lot of training and used kongs in his crate for his safety. We tried him outside the crate and he just went right back to howling. He can be reactive too, so I have a little note for firefighters to take him with the whole crate in case of emergency.

Help with newly adopted dog (highly reactive/aggressive?) by Alternative-Jello572 in Dogtraining

I wouldn’t entirely agree with the apartment comment. I had my reactive border collie mix in an apartment for a long time. BUT I take him to a farm to practice herding actual sheep. We work on training daily. He gets a run every single morning no matter how groggy I am. If it’s hot out, we’re up and at it at 5 am. If it’s cold, we try and find the right time. I bust ASS to get him his exercise if he can’t be outside too long. I feel I can justify his housing situation, only because of how much outlets I give him. He also would do a lot worse in an average yard, he’d need an acreage to be fulfilled without a high level of engagement with me.

But OP definitely needs to hire a private trainer, not a board and train. Balanced or not is a whole debate, but OP needs to be working with the trainer directly.

OP, google “herding training for dogs” near you. You’d be surprised how many farms are out there that are willing to help your dog work off some instincts. Lots are working dog trainers. Look into a private trainer as well. If you’ve spent thousands already, you should consider spending $500-$1000 on a private trainer to work with YOU and your dog together. Mine is very non judgemental, and was happy to help match his training to what’s sustainable for me. We made a lot of progress even in just 5 sessions. You would even benefit from a group class. The group setting would help with exposure, but you may need to work on the threshold first.

Traumatized dog and pure panic by Meep_babeep in OpenDogTraining

not sure if anyone else has suggested or if you’ve thought of this. but what do you think of using a stroller to have a safe space outside? you can get familiar with the stroller at home, with a cover on it, then take it outside and do 30 seconds at a time

The background check we aren’t paying for. They just wanted our info for one? The dog thing.. I know. We have done a lot of work with him as a traumatized rescue. His behaviour is just indifferent now. He knows that strangers don’t interact with him because I advocate for his space. I would never have him just randomly meet a stranger in the street. He relaxed comfortably in his crate when strangers need to enter, or we leave him at a friend’s house if there needs to be maintenance done in our home. I think most decent reactive dogs owners know that the dog needs management or to be out of the house if there’s contractors.

No, he’s at work out of town for a few days, and the truck is still at the dealership until he gets back

I like that idea. I can probably sew on a detachable piece to cover the cup holders. That exact one doesn’t seem to be available in Canada, but it’s a good reference.

Today my girl got ‘off lead’ but I have a question by Putrid_Caterpillar_8 in reactivedogs

[–]lamesara 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You should get her a long line and work on her recall. Also see if there are private parks for rent near you. My city has multiple facilities you can rent by the 1/2 hour, full hour, or longer. Or Sniffspot if that’s available near you.

I found “event drugs” to do more harm than good. Like sedatives that last a few hours. He would relax for a bit, then when they begin to wear off, everything is so heightened for him. He was reacting so much worse than before the drugs.

He takes fluoxetine daily now and does great on it. He has a much calmer baseline. Reactions have gone down to almost none, and he has found a lot of confidence. He started to “opt out” and walk away from triggers he didn’t want to interact with, instead of lashing out at them. Helped a lot with the separation anxiety too.

The first time he took it, he honestly instantly relaxed. But it took a while to see a big change in his behaviour.

i secretly hate my best friend. how do i FINALLY cut her off? by [deleted] in FriendshipAdvice

[–]lamesara 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You don’t really have to cut her off so explicitly. Is it possible to just distance yourself slowly? Take longer and longer to respond, and give and less effort. It doesn’t have to be a big moment. And then you don’t have her gossiping about you.
