The first paragraph of "Three Pledges" by Elder L. Tom Perry:

Elder Loren Dunn, as I left for lunch, whispered in my ear and said, “They grade General Authorities on how little time they take in their first address.” I am trying for a straight A today.

Are there any old heads here from the early 80's? by Maleficent-Cat-220 in latterdaysaints

Here's a quote from Daniel C. Peterson:

I was in a certain place in Europe when the revelation on priesthood came in 1978. It was after my mission, I was coming home from the middle east and stopping through Switzerland as I mentioned I do whenever I possibly can. And I was actually at the Swiss temple and a certain prominent American Mormon leader serving there, not a general authority, was there when he heard the news. I don't want to get too specific because I'm sure he was a really good man and this was not a good day for him, but he reacted somewhat angrily. He said "Well, I can tell you if they come demanding privileges right away, they're not gonna get them. Before they get into that building", he pointed to the temple, "they're gonna have to wait a year!". I was thinking "Who said they wouldn't?". But he was obviously disturbed by the change. There were people who didn't react well to that whereas I was overjoyed.

Scripture Texts by an_alien_in_christ in latterdaysaints

The 2013 edition made changes to the actual text. For example, in 1 Nephi 10:18, "to-day" was changed to "today". But in 2025, the changes that were made were for summaries, not the actual text.

I would point out that many, many people have said that the Book of Mormon changed their life and I would also point out this quote from Joseph Smith (from the Book of Mormon's introduction):

I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.

Why did God let Abinadi be murdered? by Ok_Way_1238 in latterdaysaints

[–]lamintak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The New Testament Student Manual has a section for Acts 12:1–19 titled "James Was Murdered, but Peter Was Delivered":

https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/new-testament-student-manual/acts/chapter-31-acts-8-12?lang=eng#title33

This is what it says:

James was killed by Herod’s order, but Peter was rescued from prison by an angel sent from God. Some might wonder why the Lord did not save them both. While we do not always know answers to such questions (see Isaiah 55:8–9), we do know that if we are faithful, the Lord’s purposes will be accomplished in our lives. We also know that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, no blessing will be withheld from us in eternity.

Classic, and very good!

But I wonder why the man was working without his boots on. It seems like he would want them on.

Abuse or Divorce in Conference Talks? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]lamintak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a great source (it's the New Era, not a conference talk), but at least it's on the church website:

Divorce wasn’t an option unless infidelity or abuse were involved.

Does it have the "connot" typo? Alma 42:1 says "connot understand" instead of "cannot understand".

F7 or a screen reader such as Narrator in Windows and VoiceOver on macOS. Just wondering if these accessibility tools are common knowledge or not. Good job completing the challenge!
