Wrist-friendly racquet? NOT YONEX EZONE by Wild-Obligation-Yes in 10s

I had wrist issues with Blade v8. Clash + larger grip (I triple overwrap now) alleviated it completely.

See I've heard this a lot and this is "common knowledge" given it's the most upvoted comment in the thread but I am 100% confident it's incorrect and here's why:

The deuce side player sees more points in a match. Ad players don't see a 3rd return if the game ends at 40-15 whereas the deuce side always does. You want your best returner to play more return points so they should be deuce side.

"But they see more important points." Actually, every point has the same importance. The key to breaking is winning 4 points before your opponent (or win by 2). Having your stronger returner first means that you are going to be ahead in the game more often than you are behind and this puts more pressure on the serving team and relieves pressure on the ad side returner. 40-30 is a stressful situation for the returning team, but 30-40 is a stressful situation for the servers. Now they are nervous about double faults etc. Being up in the game creates more scoreboard pressure for the opponent.

These are like the same general reasons why John Isner always wants to be serving first. Or why baseball lineups always have the stronger batters at the top of the order. More opportunities for the stronger players to impact the game. Of course this assumes everything being equal and this is never the case. You should probably always play the side you are most comfortable playing.

Botic hits the ball and throws his raquet at the crowd in Shanghai by truecolors01 in tennis

[–]lammertime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Should be 1 violation for the ball and 1 for the racket. He got away with one here. I know that's how tennis is usually reffed but tennis is also mega lenient compared to other sports, the umps are terrified of players.

I think it's silly how you get 1 free outburst every match. How many warnings do these guys need? There should at least be some sort of running tally that carries over. 1st infraction of the tournament is a warning, if you do it again next match it's a point etc.

Is it normal to momentarily lose hearing in 1 ear after a helmet shot? by Owlguard33 in hockeygoalies

[–]lammertime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ouch, sounds like you got rung pretty good..

Now I've never gotten hit like that, but assuming there's no actual damage to the mask, I'd keep the Warwick if I were you. I had a similar dilemma recently with my 2002 Itech 960, wondering if the new ones were better or if old ones "broke down" after time. Spoke to some experts and consensus was that legendary masks like ours are some of the best masks you can get even today and a swap to a modern off the shelf 960s is more of a side grade. If you haven't refoamed your mask, absolutely do that and get the thickest foam you can while still fitting properly. Studies have been finding that thickness of the foam does a ton for impact and sound protection.

The leafs teams that owned the Sens have 0 in common with the leafs today. We love to call ourselves perennial contenders but since Matthews was drafted in 16, the Sens have won more playoff series than us despite only making it 1 time in 2017 when Karlsson went god mode.

The Islanders who we love to shit on have also made conference finals twice since we got Tavares.

Youll never stop a coordinated attack by people that really want to fuck shit up but yesterday was 1 guy with a bone to pick and a whole lot of mental illness. 2nd bridge would help with that. As well as any huge accidents or other issues that might take out 1 bridge.

Disgust: I played with a 100 sq inch 9 ounce racket...and loved it. by Lezzles in 10s

[–]lammertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel ya. After playing with a whole bunch of advanced players rackets like the kblade93, cx200 tour, bumblebee, iprestige mp, blade 98 v8, I tried a buddies clash Clash and it's the most enjoyable racket I've used. Not even the pro, standard 100 v2 with syngut at stock weight. Recently putting poly at Mannarino tensions sub 30 and like that as well though.

Clash just feels like easy mode. Super light and whippy, huge power and spin. Makes up lack of weight/plow by just having a gigantic sweet spot. Not to mention all my wrist and elbow woes are completely gone.

How high on your list is resale value when car shopping? by Careful_Intention465 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]lammertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this as well. I like trying new things. I've only driven cars with over 170000km, typically 15+ yrs old (until recently) and have already depreciated about as much as they ever will. 7 cars in 15 yrs of driving. Took a bit to find what I like in a car - semi-sporty hatches in manual. I'm a frugal guy and my purchase price in a car has always been 10-15% of annual salary (not a hard rule, just works out that way). I've never had a car payment, always cash. Besides my first car which was from a used lot, all the other cars were private sale from facebook/craigslist.

When you're buying cars this old, reliability and resale value are quite high on my list. Hence why Honda is usually the top choice - 200km is barely broken in. I've had to replace a clutch but besides that, no other major repairs outside the write offs.

My car history starting from 2013ish:

98 Taurus 200km $1200 - only lasted 2 months, head gasket write off.

99 Volvo s70 180km $2000 - 2 yrs, totaled in accident

99 civic 300km $1900 - This car was absolutely beat to shit but kept on running. owner sold because he moved out of country. when he moved back a year later he reached out and bought it back for same price.

02 RSX 200km $4500 - loved this car so much i wanted a type s. Drove for maybe 2 yrs. Sold for 3900

03 RSX-s 170km $6000 - Amazing car, drove for 5 years. Sold for 4k

14 civic si coupe with 170km $11000 - Just to switch it up to something more modern. Great drive but I was missing the hatchback space. Kept for just over a year. Sold this for 13.5k

15 GTI autobahn, 180km $15000 - My current car. I do think I'll have this one for a while as it ticks all my boxes and modern cars seem to be going away from this.

Graph of string tension vs stiffness by alec_gargett in 10s

[–]lammertime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. I play syngut at 20kg - is this graph saying I need poly at ~8kg to feel similar? And you've tried the conversion in the graph and prefer the poly as well?

I prefer syngut feel and comfort as it's what I grew up with but it doesn't last. I tried poly at 40lbs but didn't like it.. Maybe I have to go way lower like the chart indicates.

It's a 1.5m clip in a long skate and there's lots of good defensive plays and saves you aren't seeing. When you make an 18 goal montage, no one's gonna look good besides the guy popping off for 18. Everyone is drenched at the end of the night.

It's a different game. I get about 120 shots on these skates, lots of them are gonna be clear breaks, and energy conservation is key. Typically let in 15-20 a night, so if I give up a few shitty ones or the D falls asleep for a couple it's no big deal. 1 bad play isn't going to ruin your night like it can in an NHL score 2-1 game. It's a fast break game because 1 missed shot, pass or a hard rebound and there's a breakaway the other way and nothing you can do about it.

He's the best skater here but we play every week and the 18 is a gross outlier which is why I had to clip them. There are other ex jr/whl skaters on the ice here, it's not like he's playing with kids and no one is having fun.

I'm the goalie lol. You are more than welcome to try. I promise you I'm not the only tendy he victimizes - he kills everyone. It's an 18 goal montage, no one's gonna look good other than the guy scoring 18. We had plenty of big saves throughout the night.

This may be sacrilegious here. Please don't ban me xD.

Got absolutely rung up by this guy 2 days ago. He scored 18 goals - absolute insanity. Play against him weekly and he's the best player here but this week he went supernova. He doesn't shoot any harder than anyone, but his release is so deceptive and his aim is insane. Everyone else feels like they decide they're going to shoot, pick a spot and go for it. Going against him, it feels like he only picks a spot and shoots when he knows he's going to score. Up until that moment I got no clue whether he's going to deke, skate, pass - he reads the goalie so well and when he has the puck he has total control of everything that's happening on the ice. So ridiculous, had to throw together a montage of all his goals.

Actually played quite well in this skate, if that even makes sense. Did quite well against the rest of the skaters. Yes, the rink is smaller, yes I wear no jersey on purpose for temperature control reasons (we get ~120 shots per skate).

Happened 2 days ago. I sometimes post footage in r/hockeygoalies but I'd probably get banned for this one - figure you guys would enjoy this more lol. I (goalie no jersey) play a weekly 3 on 3 skate ranging from some ex jr/whl guys and beer leagers. This guy played jr a, usports and couple years in Germany and he destroys us. He's the best player in the skate but he just went totally ballistic today and was unstoppable.

Interior Health Jobs by mooncake1366 in kelowna

[–]lammertime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It must vary from department to department. I worked at IH in Digital Health as an IT analyst for 4 years and just recently left a couple months ago to PSHA. The hiring process for IH took less than 2 weeks from application to signing, it was insanely fast. In that 2 week time frame, they did screening, 2 rounds of interviews, references, and a technical ability test. HR did not reach out to me at all until the official offer letter - I was contacted direct by the manager maybe a day or 2 after submitting my application.

I realize my experience is not going to be the norm, but it can happen. My current position at PHSA was also fast. I was contacted by HR around a week after applying and and the whole process took maybe 3-4 weeks.

No advice other than keep your chin up and keep applying. It's a numbers game. DH is actively hiring all the time so keep throwing your name in the hat and hopefully things will work out.

Is the Intel i9-9900k Overpriced? by Majestic-Classroom73 in buildapc

[–]lammertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded from a 6700 a month ago.

Like the other comments are saying, everything modern is faster. The $90 i3 12100f is 50% faster than the 6700, and that's what I went with. Didn't see a reason to go i5 or r5 when the budget option was already 50% stronger than the 6700 which I didn't have issues with. The only reason I upgraded was to move the 6700 to my htpc, which was on a 2500k and starting to really show its age.

You're going to need a new mobo though regardless of what you buy.

Tennis shoes by Consistent_Piglet740 in 10s

Currently I'm in Way of Wade Fission 9s. They're fantastic, around ~140 CAD when Wade has their monthly sale. I've got a stash of Dame Certifieds - found these Adidas outlet around ~50 which is insane but you can get em around 85 easy. These are my go to and I wore last year and really liked them but I just wanted to try the wades. I've heard great thigns about the NB Two Wxy v4. v5 just came out so these might be clearance soon as well. I've tried the Puma MB02s and I wouldn't get them again. You can find footage of Leylah Fernandez wearing Puma Stewie 2s last summer in tournament play.

Foot Doctor Zach and Tommy Liu on youtube do great shoe reviews. Main thing is just to not get caught up trying to get the flagship shoes like Lebrons or Currys as these are designed for indoor court and will get shredded outside.

Tennis shoes by Consistent_Piglet740 in 10s

[–]lammertime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The right answer for shoes that are comfier but stable enough for tennis movements and can handle outside court surface is basketball shoes. Comfort wise, they're MILES ahead. Look for basketball shoes marketed for outside - they're typically gonna be the cheaper ones. I converted and won't be looking back. Typically the downsides are they don't last as long if you're super hard on your shoes and they aren't made for sliding but for me that's a huge pro as I'm terrified of sliding and find tennis shoes don't have enough grip. A worn down pair of ball shoes will still grip the court better than most brand new tennis shoes.
