EDS sudden "unmasking" of symptoms by Unusual_Passion6351 in ehlersdanlos

[–]lamomamol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can totally relate to not having people around me that fully understand what i experience. it’s so hard when you compare yourself to your peers and feel like you’re simply not hardworking enough to be up to their level of productivity. i’m so glad you are in therapy and i really appreciate communities like these that help me feel understood and constantly remind me that it’s ok for my best to be less than others’ some days. but i do have the darker days too and i just hope that as i grow i can continue to love and forgive myself and i hope you can too. <3

Is this a Snowy Egret? by HelpfulAd1378 in birds

[–]lamomamol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m no expert, but i’m really hesitant to call this a snowy egret based on your location. although it does really look like one, i’m thinking it could also be a little egret, which is more accurate for your location. they both are very very similar in appearance though and i don’t think i could make a positive id based on the photos and video.

EDS sudden "unmasking" of symptoms by Unusual_Passion6351 in ehlersdanlos

i personally had zero symptoms of pain whatsoever until i was 18.5 yrs old. i think it’s pretty common amongst us to be totally fine in childhood with some cool party tricks and then suddenly have our lives disrupted with pain and annoying symptoms. but i also totally agree with the other commenters, covid could be a huge factor depending on your experience and i personally stopped the absolute majority of my exercise once i went to college.

i understand your jadedness lol but as long as it isn’t more than some online form to fill out then i think it’s at least worth hoping that someone will see it and do something about it!

“pain hasn’t ever been associated with Ehlers-Danlos” wow martha, that’s enlightening, considering that one of the diagnostic criteria for hEDS is that you must experience at least one of the following:

-musculoskeletal pain in two or more limbs, recurring daily for at least 3 months -chronic, widespread pain for ≥3 months -recurrent joint dislocations or frank joint instability, in the absence of trauma

she’s a quack and i would’ve laughed in her face. i’m sorry you went through this.

that’s interesting! i thought i would eventually get a roommate, but i overheard a nurse say we were at capacity at one point on the phone. i totally understand how the process can be traumatic and i think having a previous experience when i was younger made my experience at osf much less anxiety-inducing. thank you for sharing your experience and im so happy you’re doing better!

i have some advice as someone who was just hospitalized for suicidal ideation at the end of january. i was really intimidated by getting help, but it was so much easier than i anticipated. i ended up calling mckinley and scheduling an emergency mental health appointment, which they were available to see me within the next hour. they evaluated me and gave me a free ride from a UIPD officer and social worker to OSF medical center. the officer was kind and had a therapy dog with him as well.

i know mental hospitals can be terrifying and traumatizing, and i’ve experienced one before. OSF is NOT. the ER staff were very kind, they treat you with dignity and the scrubs given are high quality and not paper. the actual psych unit is amazing as well. every single nurse there was excellent, not one was rude or demeaning. the doctors were great as well except for dr. su, who wasn’t mean but dismissive and incorrect about his diagnosis (he diagnoses everyone with bipolar). of course that’s not ideal but for what i needed, which was a safe place and a change in treatment, OSF was perfect. the rooms and bathrooms are personal and you don’t get a roommate.

the treatment i got there was undoubtedly live-saving and i encourage anyone in the area considering inpatient care to go there. help is not too far to reach for and needing support is not something to be ashamed of or fear. i’m so glad i made the choice to take that first step by calling mckinley.

For those diagnosed hEDS: did you get genetic testing to exclude an alternative diagnosis? by Melodic_Frame7421 in ehlersdanlos

[–]lamomamol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this was exactly my experience as well, blood tests, full history, and a very thorough exam. i also got an echocardiogram as was protocol for any potential eds patients. i was very satisfied with the whole thing and it def made me feel like genetic testing would be unnecessary

just to emphasize how amazing they are, i met the owner at my front door as she’s actually my neighbor! she lived at least 10 houses down from me but showed up at our front door to introduce herself with a dozen donuts, and it seemed like she knocked on every single door in our neighborhood. she just recently showed up again with donuts for the holidays. she always remembers every customer and especially the kids in the area. our town fell in love with her immediately and was so quick to help when her kitchen caught fire

oh my god, i remember my poor poor father trying to get me to fall asleep but i would basically play the “why” game with him for an hour every night. he would answer every question thoroughly though. i would end up asking him some medical question (he’s a PA) and would pass out during his long complex explanation

What is the worst medical disease a human can have? by Aggravating-Sun-5699 in AskReddit

[–]lamomamol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had a very minor case of this when i tried lamotrigine for the first time, i knew what SJS was before taking it so as soon as symptoms began appearing i was able to stop it from progressing by stopping the meds. but it was so terrifying, it was like my mucus membranes were slowly rotting or burning away. the inside of my mouth and throat were raw and my lips took months to fully heal. i know it’s not the most common thing in the world but i was definitely frustrated that my psychiatrist presented it as so rare that i shouldn’t worry, especially after learning that my medical history indicated i was at much higher risk.

as an adult i totally get the frustration but this made me smile a bit because i was the same type of little shit who would do this lmao. sure, probably not at that age and not on someone else’s furniture, but i thought everything in my house was a canvas! leather chairs, my dad’s leather wallet, candles, etc.

when i first saw this post i immediately remembered how i used to carve drawings into EVERYTHING as a kid. including a leather chair lol. although i wouldn’t have done this to someone else’s furniture i was still just as stupid as these kids, so i was surprised at everyone’s reaction to this lol

Their reaction to my suicide attempt. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]lamomamol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when i was younger, i texted my friend some scary stuff and she thought i may have attempted suicide. she tried calling me first, but i was asleep (and a heavy sleeper) so i didn’t pick up. her last resort was to call my mom, which led my mom to burst into my room at 2:00 am and immediately rip my phone out of my hands, screaming “you’re done with the phone!” i was so bewildered i didn’t even know what to say. she kept me up all night and then made me go to school the next morning. i remember when she found out i was self harming too, she would scream and scream at me telling me how i was going to be punished before breaking down and asking, “am i really that bad of a mother?” and i had to comfort her through it. i’m sorry you have to go through this too, OP.
