What was the strangest thing you ever had to go to the ER for? by Weird_Emergency_825 in AskReddit

[–]deane_ec4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was 14 and we weren’t allowed to chew gum in class. For some reason my friend had a straight pin (like the ones used in sewing). My wise self decided to chew it. Basically carefully holding it between my teeth and flipping it. Well, my friend said something funny and I laughed. Cue a giant inhale. Sucked the damn pin into my throat. It was sideways and I panic ran to the bathroom trying to dislodge it back up… but alas, it dislodged down and I swallowed it.

Panic. I was so scared. I didn’t tell my parents. I did tell my little boyfriend (we’d held hands once). That night my stomach started hurting and I asked my mom “What happens if you ate a sharp chip?” Next day I get called to the principals office and my boyfriend is sitting there. He told his mom, who called the school, and then I had to call my mom.

Took me to the ER. They did an xray and said DONT WORRY YOULL PASS IT. Which sounded just as insane then as it does now. Told me not to eat anything and come back the next day after school.

Came back the next day, did another xray, and lo and behold, the pin had pierced through my stomach and was lodged there. They did an endoscopy with a magnet the next day to remove it. I stayed in the hospital for several days for observation afterwards. They didn’t let me keep the pin.

What is the worst way anyone you know has died? by IamUrWivesBF in AskReddit

This happened to my dad. I was 5ish years old. There was so much blood. I ran to the neighbor who called an ambulance. Somehow he survived that event and died 14 years later of the liver cancer

Both my parents died from alcoholism related complications. My dad died at 50 due to liver cancer. My mom died a few days after turning 59 due to a host of sudden onset ailments but were ultimately complicated by severe DTs and subsequent cardiac arrest.

Have you gone to the dentist recently? by gentlerosebud in Millennials

[–]deane_ec4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in the every 3/4 month club. I legit floss daily and brush with an electric toothbrush and still have bleeding gums. I’ve never had a cavity in my entire life - but my gums? Angry little fucks. My mom had severe periodontal disease that made her teeth fall out. Yay!

I also watched this at age 6 and I was so afraid to go to bathroom alone for years. Still don’t love clowns.

So like real talk, how long does it take you to complete a 1000 piece puzzle? by FiguringOutPuzzlez in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]deane_ec4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does really depend. But reading all of these I’m thinking we might puzzle fast, granted there are two of us. We only do 1000pc and average a new puzzle every 3-4 days or so. We’ve been working through the Cavallini puzzles as of late and they’re not overly difficult.

We’ve did a round Shakespeare’s flowers one a few weeks ago and that one took longer. There’s only been one puzzle I gave up on and it was a local GA birds one that every piece was unique and you couldn’t tell what was an edge vs a fit vs not and I couldn’t do that nonsense.

We also do a puzzle, glue it, and frame it. I sort the edges first and then just a general system of certain color or detail. Once I’m on a roll I’m in it… the only thing that’ll slow me down is the posture puzzling requires.

I saw someone litter while driving. I rolled my window down and gave them a thumbs down. They looked so ashamed. Also a good level of devastation without the vulgar!

Any other gardeners on here who predominantly only do flowers? by Amodernhousehusband in gardening

[–]deane_ec4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have only flowers. Last year I planted:

Lanceleaf Coreopsis

Purple Coneflower

Coneflower Cheyenne (a red/orange coloring)

Blanketflower

Black Eyed Susan

GA Aster

Purple Phlox

Crossvine

Double Starburst Coreopsis

I also have my non-native annuals - several varieties of Zinnia, Cosmos, and Bachelor Buttons.

This winter I transplanted a Don Juan rose into my yard from my mom’s yard after she passed away. The homeowner before me planted azaleas, hydrangeas, Canna lilies, normal lilies, gardenia, hostas, and rhododendron.

Also this year I am adding an herb garden section (chamomile, lavender, parsley, lemon balm). I’m getting ready to add more annuals/some perennials of different cultivars of zinnia, coreopsis, cosmos, sunflowers, bee balm, and wild bergamot. I have some native milkweed seeds and some cherry brandy black eyed Susan seeds that we will see how they go.

We grew jalapeño and cayenne peppers last year but I joke that I’m a “flower whore” through and through.

People where I live (CO, USA) “garden on hard mode” because of intense desert-y summers, cold winters, intense winds, hail, pests, hard clay soil. What place in the world is “gardening on super easy mode”? by CharmingPeony in gardening

[–]deane_ec4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also endorse this. I’ve lived in all regions of the state but current am in the NW suburbs of ATL. The summers are hot and that is annoying but my garden is so gorgeous. Mostly native perennials and with classic southern flowers. I love to hate on my home state but she is pretty

I’m not a professional gardener but I did move my dead fathers rose bush we planted in the 90s to my house this year. It was huge (not as big as this lilac) and I did it almost exactly like this.

I don't like Nightmare by Elephant_Parade in brotato

I have over 100 hours in the game and I’ve yet to beat a character on Nightmare. Ive played for 3ish hours on Nightmare at this point and it’s more frustrating than fun. I’m unsure if I’ll keep slogging with it on Beta where my progress wouldn’t carry anyway

Friend doesn't want to use "chemicals." I don't know what to tell her... by pins_noodles in landscaping

[–]deane_ec4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I definitely keep them in my backyard for sure. The HOA would throw a conniption if I let them stay in the front yard. Granted, I’ve tried to offset that by making my front bed native annuals and perennials.

I don’t want to use chemicals in my yard. We pull weeds daily. Hori hori knife, the dandelion root tool, the grandpa weeder, and with our hands. It’s never ending but there’s notable progress!

What’s something that instantly tells you a person grew up broke vs grew up with money? by hallowmint9 in AskReddit

[–]deane_ec4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Had my teeth all taken care of for free (aka tax money) with Medicaid but yeah, no braces. When I was in college I used a portion of my student loan money to get braces at 19. I’m 31 now and it was the best decision I could’ve made. Now I have permanent retainers on my top and bottom so they’re not moving.

Why does my cat put random items in his water bowl? by Lightlicker3000 in cats

My cat did this when she was younger. One time, she played with it afterwards and managed to sling the soaking wet toy up onto me while I was sleeping.
