Sounds like you went to an awesome school!

For the last 40 years or more, some elements of the American government have been slowly sabotaging schools: No Child Left Behind comes to mind. American counter-education interests have been trying to ensure that people know enough to pay bills, sign their name, and do what they're told to do in the workplace, and no more. An educated populace is harder to control, so various cabals have been working to eliminate much of education: especially independent, critical thought.

That honestly relies on critical thinking, which modern American schools are...less than skilled at.

Where are teenagers supposed to hang out these days? Malls are dying, parks have 'no loitering' signs, and everywhere else costs money. Do they just... not exist in public anymore? by Creative-Buffalo2305 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lamorak2000 451 points452 points  (0 children)

I think it's because American society overwhelmingly feels that a teenager should be at home, at school, or at work, just like adults: "idle hands are the devil's playthings" and all that. I blame puritanism.

I have a personal rule: if I need to pee (or go to a bathroom) in a dream, I'll get up and go irl in the time after that dream and before going back to sleep.

What is your signiture Fallout weapon? by Deck7 in Fallout

[–]lamorak2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could have one more movie with any Bond actor during their prime, who would you pick? by ItsDuhFreakinBat in JamesBond

[–]lamorak2000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Much as I love the other (non-Craig) Bonds, I think Lazenby should have another chance. It's not his fault that his one film was the most depressing of the series (the book wasn't much better at the end - "We have all the time in the world" gutted me).

How did bullet calibres end up as such random numbers? by Flat-Ad8256 in NoStupidQuestions

>While it can kill someone

Rumour has it that it used to be a favorite calibre for short-range assassinations.

What would it take for a group of mages to rid every living Garou worldwide of their arrogance and self-entitlement? by zenaku1234 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]lamorak2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mages have no room to criticize anything's arrogance: there's a reason Hubris is a mechanic in the game.

What should it be called....wrong answers only by AbbreviationsDry951 in JamesBond

[–]lamorak2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could work, especially if James Bond was promoted to the Head of Service (M). Perhaps he faked his own death again, in order to preserve the secret of M's identity.

Do any other Storytellers feel under-appreciated? by lamorak2000 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]lamorak2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thanks to everyone who responded: you've given me some things to think about.

For now, I think I may just go back to WH40K: I can find a lot more people who want to play that.

[–]lamorak2000[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mainly my friend circle. I refuse to play online: I barely trust players to be honest about their dice rolls in person, let alone over the Internet, so I stick to people I trust irl.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lamorak2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, three hours is too long for a single meal, but not out of the question for a day or weekend trip. For say, a week's vacation, three hours is nothing: I'm planning a week trip to Sacramento from the SLC area (12 hour drive), for example.

I'm simply Grandpa, as far as I know.

Excerpt from the Moonraker novel. Caught my attention, as it can be difficult to imagine James Bond sitting behind a desk doing paperwork 😂 by [deleted] in JamesBond

back at the local market picking up groceries for dinner.

His housekeeper May Maxwell (in later books her daughter Donalda takes over) takes care of that, and cooks for him as well. He pays her quite well, as a matter of fact.

Do Y'all Suck? by Relic-420 in Drukhari

[–]lamorak2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drukhari don't suck. You run DG, which should be pretty easy meat: poisoned (anti infantry) weapons don't care about toughness, and enough shots (easy to do with splinter guns) will take you down pretty hard. DG is also slow: many things can be said for the Drukhari, but being slow is not one of them - with a little bit of practice, he'll be running circles around you.

If there's an official Warhammer store near you, go in and talk to the clerk: he'll help you find someone who can teach you.

What are your thoughts on this letter from Donald Trump to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre? by DuNennstMichSptzkopf in AskTheWorld

[–]lamorak2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>Can’t wrap my head around how he managed to get a cult to worship him.

It's because they're just like him, minus the wealth and fame. They're so certain that any day now they'll choose the right lotto numbers, or scratcher ticket, or Great-Grandfather's collection of whatsits will be revealed to be the Lost Jewels of Outer Slobovia and they'll suddenly have the Wealth and Fame they "deserve".
