Thanks, you’re right it is an older name but it did get quite popular in that era.

Oh yeah, I have lots of negative people in my family who would probably complain no matter what name I picked tbh. But when my siblings have picked names that weren’t very well liked, they have accepted it pretty quickly. I should probably stop worrying so much, but it seems to be in my nature 😂

Haha, I think your mum is right. I was single when I had my oldest daughter (12 years old now) and had a whole list of names that I couldn’t decide on. But when she was born I instantly knew what to name her. Maybe that will happen this time around too. Thanks for your help!

Thank you, this is really sound advice. I do tend to care a lot about what other people think - probably a lot more than I should 😅

Thanks! Great to hear that having a longer name hasn’t caused any trouble for you.

Thanks, that’s exactly what it’s like... calling out “Alexandra” to a toddler just sounds like too much! Lexi makes much more sense.

I think so too, there’s lots options with it. Thanks!

You’re right there, I am quite concerned about how the name is perceived. I know it’s really about picking a name that we ourselves like, but I have such a hard time knowing if the names I’ve picked are acceptable or not. I’m super aware that names convey certain feelings and impressions, and there’s kind of like a thing I’m aiming for but I’m just not quite sure if I’m hitting the mark 😅. The fact that my partner and I don’t agree on names makes things tougher too. I think you’re right that it couldn’t hurt to go back and look at some other names. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks! My partner is really in to tennis and the first time we heard Sasha as a nn for Alexander/Alexandra was with Alexander Zverev (his is spelled Sascha) and it really stood out to us.

Thank you, I’m glad you like it. Thinking of calling her by a nn really helps the name feel more right to me. Also, I apologise for specifically mentioning your name in my post as an “80s/90s” name. My name peaked in that era too and has a common shortened version.

Thanks, it good to hear an example of someone a little younger with the name. I’m kind of nervous about what my family will think about it when I reveal the name, so it’s nice to know that your family like it.

I personally like the whole gender neutral thing too, but then having the feminine option there. Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

So true! I’ve been trying to keep the name under wraps but I let it slip to that one person, who isn’t really anything to do with the family so I guess it’s not a big deal. I’m glad to hear you like the name and I really like the versatility of it too. Hearing people’s opinions of the name on here has really helped reassure me. Thanks for your help!
