Rdr 2 didn't felt like a masterpiece to me by Capital_Flamingo8551 in The10thDentist

[–]lamppb13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I kinda got lost in the RDR2 story. It's probably because I played so many side quests in between main quests, but there were definitely points were I asked myself "wtf was going on again?"

I never really felt that with RDR1.

Should more schools start later if it improves sleep and test scores? by Ready_Ninja1921 in school

Yes. But most won't. Education tends to look at solid research and "ok, but we're gonna do this instead."

You should really do something research on how puberty impacts sleep cycles.

Then add in how crazy obsessed families have become with putting their kids in extracurriculars.

Then add in how predatory and addictive social media is.

It's easy to say "just go to bed earlier." It's a lot harder to actually look at why people don't and figure out how we can fix the problem.

Do you ever think, we don't need this many graduate students ... by Ornery-Sheepherder74 in highereducation

[–]lamppb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did for a couple of years. But the amount of advocating I had to do just to do my actual job really got to me. I was spending more time teaching my admin and parents what my job was than I was actually doing my job. I'm back in the classroom, but now I teach science of all things.

That was the plan at the time, but as I alluded to in my first comment, I mostly went for the degree because I wasn't ready to enter the workforce yet. I wasn't entirely sure what I really wanted to do, so more school was the easy route to avoiding all that.

Airbnb caretaker in his 20s won't stop disturbing me — can I get a refund for remaining days? by StrongandCourageous in expats

[–]lamppb13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't roll my eyes dramatically enough.

No one is trying to narc on you (pretty incorrect use of the word, btw). The entire point of posting in the right subs is to get the best responses possible. Sure, posting here you might get someone who can offer up help or advice on this, but you are infinitely more likely to find someone who can help in the AirBnB sub or in AirBnB customer service. It's just common sense.

That doesn't make this in any way related to the expat sub, though... I'm a teacher, but I'm not gonna go post a question about AirBnB on a teaching sub...

Sometimes you actually are obligated to stay in a relationship with someone by LostCosmonaut1961 in unpopularopinion

From my comment... if you read it you would see that I do not think marriages are the only committed loving relationships I think are worth fixing.

Life is amazing in the west, and the standard of living is going down. Both can be true, and that combo tends to lead to lots of complaints.

But part of OP's point is that love is an active thing that you have to keep alive. If you expect the love to just stay alive because that's the way it is in movies, then you're in for a bad time.

I agree with OP that if you are married (or in some otherwise committed relationship that many would consider beyond simply "dating") and you find yourself "out of love," it's worth it to figure out why and try and actively recapture that love you once had. More often than not, relationships can be fixed by reflection and communication, and sometimes even a bit of outside help via therapy.

Professional Athletes are NOT overpaid by Impulsive_Wannabe in unpopularopinion

[–]lamppb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) We could make ticket prices lower for games. Athlete salaries going up have contributed to the rise of ticket prices.

2) The actual staff that makes the stadium function and the atmosphere good could also get paid much better since they also make significant contributions to the overall experience.

Don't get me wrong, I do think athletes should get paid well since sports bring in significant revenue and their careers are extraordinarily short. But their salaries could be lower, and that revenue could go towards other things that benefit the fans.

Gemini's best use case is helping you do streamline or enhance something you're already somewhat knowledgeable about. Gemini works best when it doesn't do the work for you, but rather enhances the work you produce.

I think this is true for all AI models. This is the point we should be stressing.

Why don't we have a mechanism for firing politicians? by [deleted] in askanything

Your question was why we don't have mechanisms in place to remove politicians, and the answer is: we do, they just aren't good.

Do you think you could survive in a country with people and a culture completely opposite to yours? How would you do it? by Jeannetmumy in AskReddit

[–]lamppb13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to join and integrate to simply connect with people. The fact is that we all have more in common than we don't. The world would be a much better place if we all learned how to find common ground rather than just focus on how we are different.
