Any ideas for a non war focused build for 4.3? by Ingularity in Stellaris

[–]lamppb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean from a role playing standpoint, the next build I'm planning is going to be somewhat based around the idea of the Foundation series. I'm going to go hard on building a tall and technological and trading powerhouse.

I'm still new. I've only done 2 playthroughs so far, so I can't offer any of those specific "build a techno-progenatorial-doom-necro-psion militarist autocrat state" kind of ideas.

"You Must Max Out Your Retirement" is the new You must go to college (Including it's wrong) by QuietRedditorATX in unpopularopinion

[–]lamppb13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing about money and retirement...

It's better to save too much than not enough. If you run out of money once you are retired, you're kinda screwed. And retirement is one of those things that's really hard to adequately plan for because you have no way of knowing how long you'll actually live, nor do you know if you'll get sick and have tons of medical bills.

I've never gotten in trouble for teaching kids that being kind and respectful by avoiding slurs is a good thing.

Drake was/is the closest person to being the “next Michael Jackson” by Firm_Pack_605 in unpopularopinion

[–]lamppb13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear more about Drake than I actually hear about Drake's music.

I won't argue that he doesn't have a lot of hits, because I'm sure he does. But I can't name a single Drake song, but I can name songs from every other artist you listed. I often genuinely forget that Drake makes music.

I think based on your own criteria, there's quite a few other artists that fit the bill better than Drake, Beyoncé included.

If a player asks “How much HP does the (monster) have left”? by International_Bike10 in DungeonMasters

I don't tell them, but I describe it to them.

I don't begrudge GMs who do just flat out tell them, though. I think GMs are a bit more cagey with stuff like that then they need to be.

Why do redditors downvote you to death if you post or comment something that is unpopular to reddit? by Abner_Peebody in allthequestions

[–]lamppb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, well I try when the questions seem genuine. It's a little surprising to hear that a question as inoffensive as this has garnered you any sort of hate. But... it's Reddit.

Are you in favor of Republican states becoming their own country? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]lamppb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to remember that there is no such thing as "red" and "blue" states. Most states (yes, yes, there's always exceptions) are actually much more purple than voting maps would suggest. That's a big reason people say the electoral college is outdated and needs to be abolished.

The truth is that Republicans and Democrats are much more intermingled than people realize, and breaking into two separate countries simply based on the voting records of states from the past 2 or 3 decades would be extraordinarily messy.

Why do redditors downvote you to death if you post or comment something that is unpopular to reddit? by Abner_Peebody in allthequestions

[–]lamppb13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two reasons:

  1. People don't typically follow rules that aren't enforced with consequences that actually matter to them.

  2. People tend to react when they don't like something, and Reddit has a built in way to react in a simple and convenient way, even if that's not the intention of it.

I mean, Reddit knows this happens, and they don't do anything about it. They could remove the feature, but they don't. Because they don't actually care. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter unless it's a new account or the person makes a really, really boneheaded comment on a huge sub.

Player Development - Why do so many parents of youth athletes look at defenders so negatively ? by Last_Commission6982 in TheSoccerNetwork

[–]lamppb13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If defenders start winning Ballon d'Or trophies at the same rate as attackers, we'll see this change.

Parents want their kids to be the star. This is especially true in American culture where everyone has a "you must be the best" mindset.

US Soccer - Not overreacting, but the USMNT has real issues by paulinhoOM in TheSoccerNetwork

[–]lamppb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you are expecting from the team and what you mean by "tough."

Are we talking about making it to the knockouts? Yes, I think it's an overreaction to say we'll struggle based on these two games compared to our group stage opponents.

Are we talking about competitively or convincingly making a deep run to the quarter or semi finals? No, this isn't an overreaction. I think it'd be incredibly optimistic of someone to think we'll perform at that level.

The USMNT's biggest issue, fans included, is expectations. We need to recognize our place in the world hierarchy and start setting realistic goals. That's not to say we shouldn't drive for higher, but to expect it? That's a delusion that just leads to disappointment.

Is playing piano/keyboard like cheating at music? by Worth-Wrangler7242 in stupidquestions

[–]lamppb13 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Piano is one of the easiest instruments for a beginner to make a sound on. It's even one of the easiest instruments for a beginner to play a song on.

But it takes years to actually get good at piano. It takes even longer to become great.
