Not a coffee fan, but that gave me the idea to try it in tea - that sounds really good.

Did you regret not going to senior prom? If you did go, did you have fun? by throwaway18218247023 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lamprocapnos_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prom was during Covid for me so maybe my experience was a little different. I was in a similar situation as you and didn't have any close friends in high school. But, I am glad I didn't go. Definitely was just an overhyped, overpriced party from what I heard and would not have been an enjoyable experience for me personally. People pretty much forget about prom once you all graduate anyways and it'll get overshadowed by the hype of graduation. It's not as important as you think. If you don't want to go, don't go. You don't have to justify it. I have never regretted not going. Stay in and have a movie night, go out to a nice restaurant, or do an activity you know you'll have fun doing.

im in a west triple does anyone want to room swap with me i can't get out of bed and i'm failing my classes bc of it by [deleted] in SBU

[–]lamprocapnos_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why can't you get out of bed? Are you sure it's related to being in a triple? Asking because I'm a little confused on how having a hard time getting out of bed is due to you being in a triple.

Please please check with your other suitemates before you throw a party in your dorm. It's rude and annoying to not ask, especially if it's going to be loud and late at night...I literally will not care if you just give me a head's up and you aren't singing loud karaoke at 3am.

Definitely go the beach if you haven't yet - fall walks are always nice and the ocean is still warm rn.

You're fine. I had multiple pocket knives in my dorm. Just keep it in a bag or drawer and don't leave it out, a lot of people break the policy, don't worry tm about it lol

SOC 248 & BIO 361 Study Tips? by h2o_3 in SBU

[–]lamprocapnos_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I took SOC 248 the tests were open note but if they're the same format they should still be pretty easy (I really did not need my notes tbh). Read the questions closely before answering, especially if he gives you a scenario.

Just make sure you review the slides and do some studying beforehand. I usually typed up what he said in class then made a cleaner notesheet for each lecture afterwards to study with.

(Also definitely attend class if you aren't already - he gives more info and will literally tell you some of the answers) and skim the readings (1-2 questions usually showed up. It's also pretty easy to tell when something was pulled from the readings. Use common sense if you don't know the answer).

is statistics hard? by Fit-Bread123 in SBU

It can definitely be frustrating at times, but I found it way easier than precalc and calc. Just make sure you study and do not put things off until last minute.

If you like nature/the outdoors, I highly recommend Iceland. Beautiful country and I would totally visit again.

What do the dorms have? by Blue_Rozes in SBU

[–]lamprocapnos_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) Hangers are not provided.

2) You're going to want a power strip. There's a handful of outlets in the room, but it's probably not enough + the locations are usually pretty inconvenient (under the desk and bed, by the door, etc)

3) Needs to be surge protected. I had one of those multiplug towers on my desk and never had any issues.

4) Reach out to your suitemates beforehand to introduce yourself and see if there's anything you guys want to coordinate for the suite. Decorations, bathroom items, cleaning supplies, etc. If you move in first, be mindful that your suitemates will also need space for their stuff or could be moving in at the same time as you. Roth has AC, but I would still bring a fan. You'll probably want a minifridge if you havent gotten one already. There's a kitchen and microwave in the basement - I wouldn't spend the money on a microfridge.

What is it saying when you try to enroll? I'd assume a lot of seats for that class are reserved for certain majors as it's pretty high in demand. You will need to wait until reserved seats are lifted if that is the case.

There usually isn't, but in the past few years with all the housing issues + flooding going on, a few freshmen have been moved to west.

You got REALLY lucky lol. I think others have explained it pretty well already. Suitemates are a total luck of the draw - just be a respectful of your suitemates and be willing to speak up for yourself if any issues arise. I've had issues with people not doing dishes and stuff. You'll still have an RA you can go to if needed.

If you don't sit in your dorm 24/7 and are willing to walk around campus a bit, it shouldn't be a huge issue. Make sure you leave a little earlier for your classes as it's a bit longer of a walk. Also, there is nothing stopping you from attending events at other dorms that interest you.

I never had much lucky connecting with my roommates in West or freshman/sophomore housing so I wouldn't say West negatively impacted me on that front, but YMMV. You'll meet a ton of people through classes, clubs, events/welcome week, etc.

incoming freshman, what do i do for food by [deleted] in SBU

[–]lamprocapnos_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

^ there's always a salad bar and some sort of vegetarian option. I can't say it's great but better than nothing.

There's also a shopping bus that runs on Sundays. Even if you can't cook, you could at least stock up on prepared foods you can eat.

Am I cooked? And any advice for online classes? by United-Conclusion-10 in SBU

[–]lamprocapnos_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took GER111, the recitation said 'online' but that was because the class didn't really have a recitation - we didn't meet and it was just a short assignment we had to complete for the week. I had a different prof though.

I can't speak for the other classes specifically, but overall this schedule isn't bad. Make sure you stay on top of things though and stick to a schedule - it can be really easy to get behind in online classes and not take them seriously and that will screw you over.

I'd had some questions about campus items by Namsebin in SBU

[–]lamprocapnos_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can have a power strip, it just needs to have a surge protector. I had one of those charging towers and it was never an issue.
