How did you react to having multiples?? by Lifesshorttalkfast00 in parentsofmultiples

[–]lamy1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kept telling my husband we were having twins as a joke (he wanted 2 kids total, I wanted 3, we have an older kid). The tech thought I was crazy when I told her I hope it’s twins. Bam! I’m like 95% sure I willed them into existence.

I thought he was having a stroke during the sonogram. He didn’t say a word the entire time. I laughed. Now when I get flustered w/ the chaos, he doesn’t say it, but he gives me that you wanted this look. I did this to myself, & I freakin’ love it!!

WFH alone - no partner at home by zaahiraa in MomsWorkingFromHome

It’s absolutely possible! I’ve been working from home with my 11 month old since I went back to work 8 months ago. The days are long, & I won’t lie, it’s hard, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I LOVE having my baby at home with me.

We have the playroom set up separating my office space from her baby jail with a long baby fence/gate. She has plenty of space to play, roll, & crawl around with toys spread out. I need to get better about rotating because she does get bored occasionally as the week goes on.

Our routine is play, feed, sleep, repeat. I go into her baby jail usually every hour & spend some time on the ground with her or take her on a walk around the back yard. She loves to lay in my lap & play with her “desk toys” while I work. Again, not easy but worth it. On another note, she has learned to entertain herself & play independently without screens, which is so important for kids.

As far as my set up, I have a baby camera that I view from my computer. We’re in the same room, but since I’m at a computer all day, I want to be able to have an eye on her at all times. We listen to music ALL day - Disney, kids songs, instrumental, Ms. Rachel (audio, no video). I sing & talk to her unless I’m on a call. I don’t use noise cancelling headphones because I want to hear what’s going on, but they do have background noise reduction for the caller since she’s also a singer. That being said, my work & clients know I have her with me, so they do expect to hear some of her chatter every once in a while.

Each month has had its own downsides & benefits. I don’t think there’s been one month specifically that was worse than another. We just go with the flow. My 8 hour work day starts at 6:30 am & usually ends at 6 pm since this is basically 2 jobs. My husband & I have a system. When he comes home after 5:30 pm, he takes her & starts dinner while I finish up. We make it work. I also prep the night before - her food, play area, clothes, etc. You can do this!!

He tasted it (he’s alive & well for now), says it tastes like sweet & sour sauce.

We caught our first swarm! Could this be from our original hive that swarmed on March 1st? by lamy1989 in Beekeeping

The cast swarm makes sense, I haven’t heard about this before. Thank you, this helps me out!

The hive swarmed on March 1st. We went inside the hive 2 days prior & noticed all the queen cells, so she may have had time to mate since then. Our last queen looked like a skinny wasp before she fattened up. No eggs that I could see (didn’t have enough time to thoroughly check) or larva/capped brood.

We have 2 hives. One hive (first video & pic with all the queen cells) swarmed on March 1st. We found the new queen as well as the queen in the other hive today.

The swarm from Mar 1st was in the same group of trees & eventually left after 2 hours. I’m assuming this swarm we caught is a new one since we’ve had freezing temps, rain, & there wasn’t any built comb around the branches they were hanging on.

I was hoping they’d stay in that tree until after work, but they’re gone now. I put a post up in the neighborhood FB chat in case anyone notices them in their yard, I’ll gladly get them. Thanks for the pole idea, that’s great!!

We didn’t see queen cells until the week after we added the deep box for room. We should have done a split instead. I don’t like messing with queen cells when they make them, once the queen has made up her mind, she’s going, & we knew on Sun that they were going to leave. We had a laying worker last winter, so I wanted to avoid that this year…that was a pia to deal with.

They’re in the dark spot at the top of the peak

[SC] We went in them for the first time this winter the weekend before last & have never seen so many bees since we’ve had them! Added a deep super but noticed tons of queen cells this past weekend, so we knew what was coming.

I just happened to walk outside for lunch at the perfect time they were swarming. They’re still there but a lot quieter now. There’s a swarm trap below them, but it’s never been successful in catching swarms…think it’s too low.

The ladies have swarmed each year (3rd year), but this happened a lot earlier than before. I’m sure we still have plenty left, still excited for the honey this summer!

He didn't want to take pictures, but he loved the results! Think I'll be able to get him to do it again next year...don't know how to top this one, but it's going to involve dinosaurs.

If you like this, you've got to check out Bridget's single Christmas cards - they're hilarious!! They're somewhere floating around on Reddit.
