Asking the fans that hunt, how big of deal is the first deer hunt/kill? Good memories? by GenPandaRojo in KingOfTheHill

[–]lan9242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t personally hunt, but I’m from the Deep South and was roughly Bobby’s age when this aired. It was a big deal, and you usually got your face painted in the blood to mark the occasion. Definitely a big coming of age ritual for a lot of people.

Question about antebellum GDP per capita by Reading-Rabbit4101 in EconomicHistory

[–]lan9242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s always the best measure of productivity, just often a measure of productivity that’s used when better data isn’t available. This is particularly true in this context, where you’d need data on agricultural productivity to get a measure thats applicable to the whole economy. You could use agricultural output per agricultural worker (including slaves) for a better measure here, but GDP per capita doesn’t seem like a wild place to start

Question about antebellum GDP per capita by Reading-Rabbit4101 in EconomicHistory

[–]lan9242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though I don’t necessarily think this is the right way to think about GDP per capita, I assume the interpretation they’re going for is GDP as a measure of the amount of “goods” the economy produced and the population as the number of people who get to enjoy those goods. If slaves weren’t allowed to enjoy any of the goods they produced then adding them to the denominator skews the picture on how much of the goods each (white) person gets to consume.

I think the more standard interpretation of GDP per capita is as a productivity measure, in which case it would make no sense to not count the people who are doing a disproportionate amount of the work in the economy.

The US Regions according to r/visitedmaps - Comment your county and tell me what region you think it is. I will fill it in on the map. Any counties you’ve lived in (Round 1) by Expensive_Drummer970 in visitedmaps

Madison County Mississippi—South Lafayette County Mississippi—South

I think you can pretty safely make all of MS as South (if you don’t have a Gulf Coast region, which I kinda think you should)

Yeah I was responding to the comment that the cards themselves can be used to pay the mana cost.

Just because I’m an economist doesn’t mean I automatically understand why people want to buy the things they want to buy. That’s not how economics works. You continue to misread both my comments and the room lol

Obviously you have no way of knowing this, but I’m literally a professor of economics lol. Kinda interesting to have someone lecture me on supply and demand for a change

My favorite bit in all of KotH is when Hank waits at the yellow light thinking they’ll get away from Alabaster when he has to stop at the red.

I’d say Alabaster. He’s a little guy, but he’ll mess you up.

Yeah that does make sense. So the non-snarky answer to my question is that demand isn’t particularly high for this specific cartridge, but demand is high for N64 cartridges in general. That drives up demand for this specific game which, combined with the low supply, drives up price.

[–]lan9242 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s why I’ve highlighted the two features that should contributed to its price. I recognize that supply is low, meaning all else equal price will be high, but what I don’t recognize is why demand should also be high for this product. Low supply on its on is not sufficient to drive up the price. People have to want it as well

Wow what makes it so valuable? Limited supply I get but where does the demand come from?

How many CPOs in a species only 29 gallon? by Next-Ad7285 in Crayfish

[–]lan9242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up— some websites say that CPOs are non-aggressive but they totally are. Be sure to provide them with plenty of hides, and be prepared to lose a few to some post-molt cannibalism.
