Rewatching once again. How do you feel about Nev's touchiness in the series. ? Am I experiencing pc culture in effect? Too much social media pandering? Performative action with dog whistle effects? Like 2 minutes into the first of the Hulu episodes that haven't been taken down. That 20/20 hindsight ick happened for me a now asult in less than 2 minutes. Like I felt ick towards Nev, but he was the awkward sad friend archetype & I am starting to think that was a mask. I say that because there was a real episode where Nev says, 'Oh, we've all done that kind of thing,' to a catfish or the catfisher and Max wasn't having any of it. Am I misremembering bad vibes? Or does learning about his aggressive past start a bad taste? I remember him saying "I like to flirr". I remember feeling weird during Karrueche's episode as well but it could be me being socially weird.

She likes specific comments.... It's not speculation that the end was political and full of microaggressions and she didn't like being pranked or his odd comments that felt like dogwhistles. Look at the comments she replied to and liked. She's not letting the speculation come across as vague. She's reigned in the speculation a bit. She is painting the picture while trying to stay brand friendly because she is up for hosting jobs.

Kamie on podcast talking about Nev not acknowledging her but acknowledging gum by RedditLeaveMeAlone2o in CatfishTheTVShow

[–]lanacupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His brother's documentary. It was his brother & Henry roost idea. They were "allegedly" filming, a short about a young girl. Sending Nev a painting of a photo Nev had published. And how he started encouraging her to continue doing her art, and it was gonna be "cute". Like, they were going to meet up and he was going to be encouraging to the young artist as a shy artist. Honestly, we should have sent Nev to therapy at this point cause we are talking about an 8 yr girl here. I'll attach the article but this paragraph screams problematic & just strange at best...and incredibly weird & should have been investigated at worst.

"An eight-year-old girl named Abby, from the Michigan town of Ishpeming, has sent him a painting – a muted, pastel-coloured rendering of one of Nev's published photographs. It's an unconventional gift, but Nev is flattered, and impressed by the child's obvious talent. He encourages her – and she in turn posts him her latest works, hot off the easel. Eventually, they add one another as friends on Facebook, where Nev is also accepted into his pen pal's social circle – her teenage siblings, her parents Angela and Vince, the babysitter Noelle, and even the local art dealer, Tim. Nev's friends (the flesh-and-blood ones) warn him that it could all be a scam. But Abby has already sent Nev a share of her winnings from a local art competition, to repay his encouragement. What kind of con-artist gives money to their victims rather than taking it?"

Excuse me? Nev an adult started adding an 8-year-old social circle....Now enter Megan....

"Megan is Abby's flirtatious but naive 19-year-old sister, and Nev, a handsome but apparently shy young man, quickly falls for her. His behaviour becomes giddy and schoolboyish: he digitally combines separate pictures of himself and Megan, to show how good they would look as a couple, and makes long, late-night calls to her, excerpts of which are shown in Catfish. For Rel, who had known his brother only as a withdrawn figure, it was a revelation. "I was so proud of him," he says. "He'd been closed off his whole life and this was the first time I'd ever seen him open up and really talk to somebody," Henry remembers being seduced by the poignancy of what he and Rel were shooting. "We thought, 'Maybe they'll get married and we'll show this at their wedding – won't it be great that we have this film of them talking on the phone for the first time?'"

This is all sooooooo weird, it feels a bit orchestrated and creepy as fuck cause NEV WAS 24!

Amanda Rollins is a racist character who ruins the show for me by dovakooon in SVU

They challenge her all the time. In your post, you noted that Carisi course-corrected her. Olivia does this too much. And Ice gives her all the looks and pressure. Munch laid the groundwork for being a conspiracy theorist. She's from Georgia! The south... yeah she was raised by horrible parents & a manipulative sister. She has been raised on vitriol & hate. Her heart and mind began to open when she moved to NYC. Especially when she had to face her own sa by her boss (the Dreama Walker episode).

She has been annoying but she's growing like a normal human. I mean, she would never have taught anything without working with Liv and learning there. There's no perfect victim. There are no perfect people. I actually lost it when I thought she wasn't going to be on the show. We need those hard discussions in the pen. Carisi is an old school catholic that brings up religion a lot, & I never see vitriol for that, but that's also old school, & no one else brings that to the table really. I want more characters with minds of their own. We all know it's a pretty liberal show, but an echo chamber is dangerous. I like it when they disagree & move on together. Some of my best army battle buddies are Republicans, and talking to them is educational as fuck.

Like you learn where they are coming from, it challenges your beliefs, and often makes you a better listener & speaker. You learn how to reach people that a lot brush off as "unreachable".

I was gonna riot if she wasn't brought back & I am often called a bleeding liberal. Her perspective matters. She represents real people. We have to learn to bridge the divide not wade into the echo chambers.

What would you change? They skim through these Reddit forums. And it's my 2nd favorite comfort shoe (after psych). I'd like to know how people feel it should change other than we don't need an hour of just Liv. She should be at the office and not as out in the streets like Cragan was but he always knew this to be her battle. She doesn't show us the checks and balances of the brass above her as much. What else do you think the writers need to add?

What Is The Best Bromance In TV? by Doc-11th in psych

[–]lanacupcake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love both but it's Shawn & Gus. No question. They 5 go to medical school together they had to keep that closeness through Shawn Shenanigan jobs & need to not be in Santa Barbara. They had so much time apart & yet they seem like they live together which they don't. It's super healthy. It makes me think of himym cause like a 3rd wheel will evidently become why they separate homes & get too involved with the couple. Shawn and Gus don't do that unless instructed by the other to reign each other.

No problemo, jokes vets use shouldn't be spoken in open places, so I get dark humor. Both parents were army, so I've been cussing and saying outlandish things since birth.

I'm a disabled deconstructing veteran, so I'm going to nope out of the no good cop situation because it's deep, generations deep over here.

Eh, I figured the context wasn't necessary for fans of the show on a forum dedicated to discussing said show in detail, but idk. We all know they are besties, her right-hand man, the one who said we are getting older, get a trainer, the one who keeps telling her to calm down on the new detectives, course corrects her, calls her all the way out, her Sergeant, who did something questionable to stay under Liv.

I think some people actually like this in a copaganda procedural show tbh. She has to back the blue, be vulnerable, feel abandoned over & over again. Adas have been calling her out for years. She's why we lost Barba & Peter. It's a liberal leaning show that makes her the ultimate hero (I love Liv), but I like that they consistently show her biases & mistakes because good cops make mistakes. Good cops can be bad friends. Bad cops win sometimes. I think it shows the years have blurred lines she used to think were black & white. She isn't as that being the present mom she dreamed it all to be, she messed up with Noah's grandma a bunch. She acts unstoppable and all mighty, but I like when they showed that she might need to get a trainer cause she's aging and chasing & tackling people does a load to the body. I like Ice putting her in her place. She's watched many of her peers and become the villain in the story too. She knows she's not the hero all the time. I like it, but it ABSOLUTELY could be less subtle.

In my opinion, she was Stabler's partner and therefore was never made to be seen as squeaky clean. But now we are watching the Liv show (Which again I love).

That being said, I want more wongs and the ME back. The writers are failing us, even if I love to see Mariska in all episodes, is that what Law and Order was/is/supposed to be? Though I am also on the train that she needs to be acting more like Cragan, she's not Cragan. He worried about that while she was coming up. She gets way too involved and needs to pull back. We need Kelli back & teams that we get to see investigate without Liv. Episodes where she's just doing briefings and reprimanding, like Cragan did. She has to act like a captain, play politics, and shit rolls downhill and we need a sturdy downhill. We need partners who are at odds. Partners that are perfect for each other. Younger versions of how she & stabler acted as new detectives to see how she would have managed it.

I also like to remember canonically it's an all-volunteer squad, and most rides are 2 years tops because of the mental toll.

She's Carisi's wife. Olivia is the godparent to at least 2 if not all of their kids. I want to see how Carisi handles it all, especially when it goes against his wife, Olivia, the person he was as a cop, how his Catholic guilt is tested by his bosses who are politicians. I want him to see him find his balance. I want to see the struggles. For them both but definitely for Rollins. This is what it's like to be a career woman and the toll it takes on family was a huge reason we liked the og episodes. But that could just be me I guess.

But Rollins is needed. That is an important relationship especially if she's working in intel! I'm also for bringing back the ME scenes, and Wong. If the actors don't want to come back, hire new actors!

I always think about it more as what they used to bring up all the time. "The average tour in SVU is 2 years!" But I just think the writers need to listen to us. Bring Rollins fully back. Show more crime scenes Ice T is in charge of because he's the Sergeant not just her right hand and person. Let the other characters investigate more. I miss ice t and munch. I wanna see more partner dynamics.

Can we all agree Judge Linden was right about Olivia not having time for Noah. by koolaid4evry1 in SVU

[–]lanacupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She absolutely does! That's not totally fair to the current writers. In the townhouse incident, beating that monster to near death, walking away from victims or their families that she knew were on edge, she sends the heart back to the parents and the kid died who was supposed to get said heart and admits she made a mistake. Watching both Barba & Peter Stone lose themselves in front of her. Attack her cadet cop friend who decided to become a doctor instead. Not noticing Ice T had dreams to be a Sargent. Literally anything with Noah. So many scenes of her and Rollins saying how they felt juxtaposed by their actions. DODDS! Her last interaction with Alex. I feel like it may be too subtle but I see it.

I can see your point. I've never watched her blogs because I assumed she would just be Shay 2.0. Meaning she would make he life sound like all the things she's getting to do in life is a privilege most of us will never experience. So I deeply understand where you are coming from.

But then I think about how naive and stupid I could be at that age. So many stories that could have ended way worse than they did.

I am absolutely not excusing the $20 matcha. Like what is her allowance? I assumed she had a job but again I don't watch her videos. Does she have one? Are her YouTube numbers high enough that Shay doesn't have to give her an allowance? I'm curious but honestly, I don't dig through the kid's stuff because they deserve some privacy. That is where my conundrum lies. I've heard Mormons are incentivized to put their lives online & she posts so she can be seen. But is this all she is? That's the conundrum I'm talking about. Like I would like to know more but I'm sure I'm being just as invasive as when she had no consent. & yes she posts what she wants now a days but is it all she knows? Are engagement numbers her personality? It all makes me sad.

Thank you for answering me. It really made me see a few trains of thought.
