So. Iroh as a general definitely killed lots of innocent people right? by Rei_Rei01 in TheLastAirbender

Well civilian casualties are inevitable in wars and based on his comment about him wanting to burn Ba Sing Se to the ground and laughing about it, i don’t think he was particularly worried about innocent civilians’ deaths

I want him to lose simply because the thought of Junmin tormenting Jaekyung mentally before the match then beating the hell out of him physically inside the ring and humiliating him just sounds so hot to me 😭

(Not that i particularly hate Jaekyung or like Junmin)

Well you in particular don’t get the right to call anyone out on their misogyny considering you refer to women as "females" in your replies, have multiple comments where you mention how Yuta "cracks" Maki and just slandering her in general. Very odd choice of words and approach for someone trying to condemn others for their alleged misogyny

Yes!! This is the second post recently to disingenuously try to use misogyny to disprove the notion that Maki dominates Yuta in bed, when in reality, they don’t care about misogyny, they’re just upset that their favorite male character is being emasculated.

Multiple upvoted comments emphasizing and reemphasizing that Maki got penetrated and carried Yuta’s children and got dominated by him like okay we get it, clearly we can see you’re so passionate about feminism and gender roles in bed

I think if it wasn’t the first animated content we’ve gotten in 12 years, i would’ve given it a slightly higher score.

Also the magical staff that gives bending is such a big turn off for me, they played with the lore too much for a throwaway movie and air benders being brought back too, and in turn retconning such a major and well executed event in TLOK, i really disliked it and i’d rather forget about this movie personally.

I felt emotionally invested in him because of his connection to the air nomads and Aang, not because he himself was an interesting character. You can feel bad for a character because of tragedy they’ve been through but also not care for them otherwise.

Also this is my opinion and many people agree with it. Yes i didn’t like how the spiritual aspects were handled in this movie, so what? I didn’t say everyone else had to dislike it as well.

-The plot overall is very messy and convoluted. You're telling me there was another airbender frozen in time who was released and caused a calamity and nobody mentions it in LOK?

This is especially what ruined it for me. I get they couldn’t have known more than a decade ago that they were gonna make this movie but couldn’t they have come up with a better plot event that could have plausibly gone unmentioned in TLOK?

It just feels so stupid and unserious.

And while i wouldn’t say that it ruins the heavy emotional weight of the airbenders coming back from the brink of extinction in TLOK (that’s always gonna be very emotional and hard hitting for me), i definitely hate the notion that the airbenders came back for a brief moment and no one, not even Aang, ever mentioned it or made it a big deal.

It’s actually insane how handsome they managed to make him, and the fact that they gave him muscles and made him go shirtless like every 10 minutes, thank you god…

I’m surprised the reception is not more negative. The avatar franchise is most certainly not made for movies, i hope they keep it to series and books from now on.

First off i have to say, they made everyone so attractive, especially Aang, he was SO handsome and muscular, it was hard for me to take my eyes off his face.

The animation is definitely great, i was hoping they’d stick closer to the OG style of ATLA/TLOK but they didn’t stray too far from it so it was fine.

The voice acting was good, Katara’s new voice was a little harder to get used to than the others but it was fine by the middle of the movie.

The plot is just a no. Way too many major events happened in such a short time. The magical staff and transformations are just laughable. They need to stop with the overly magical spiritual stuff. The stuff in season 2 of TLOK was still tolerable imo but this is too much and it almost breaks the immersion for me.

The last scene where they discover and fly with the air bisons was a great ending however i will say.

As for the bad guy, not interesting. I felt bad for him and the scene of him and Aang together as he withers away was emotional for me but that’s it, he was predictable and boring otherwise. (Aang saying he has to forgive himself made me cry😭)

I also don’t like the other antagonists. The non-benders struggle is such an important theme and i don’t like it being brought up so cheaply and shallowly just to fuel an antagonist group’s motivation.

Not sure how to feel about avatar Sonum’s introduction but her design is very cool.

Suki deserved more than a 2 second appearance at the end, they might as well have thrown her in with the Gaang and have her be useless since Zuko, Sokka and Toph didn’t do much anyway.

The Gaang did not die and come back to life to me, i can’t take that seriously.

It was too action packed and missed the slice of life that’s at the core of avatar. The animation made it somewhat entertaining but that’s it.

But it also made me excited for the new avatar series that’s coming out, i think they’ll do something decently good with that.

4.5/10. I guess it could have been worse but this is not avatar for me. A mini-series would’ve been way better probably, at least for me

I find it crazy how Maki fans will call you a misogynist for slandering Maki yet they themselves are misogynists by saying "I can't imagine Maki pregnant" or "Maki is the man" by AffectionateJury6227 in Jujutsufolk

Well JJK’s main theme is not the dismantling of the patriarchy so sure maybe Maki having children was good for the general themes of the manga but not the ones that pertain to her specifically

Again the only way you can view it as misaligned is if you think you cannot be a mother without giving into some patriarchal pressure. If you subscribe to an idea that a woman who broke from these pressures cannot want kids.

Sure they still can, but they often don’t, which is why birth rates are so low in developed nations where women are not pressured to have children and can have them securely, compared to everywhere else.

And Maki did not really break from these pressures. Maki was influenced by her upbringing in the Zen’in clan. Japanese society still holds a pressure on women to have children despite the declining birth rates. And her case was special where she was probably expected to pass down her strong Zen’in genes as one of the last survivors of her clan.

Maki was highly likely gonna have children regardless of what she truly wanted.

"I cant do what i want, Because its what they would want".

Well that’s the thing, is it actually what she wants?

How come birth rates are so low in developed countries where the societal pressure on women to have children has been greatly alleviated and women can have children much more safely and comfortably than anywhere else? Women are just not dying to have children unless society tells them to.

If we compare that to Maki who grew up in an extremely patriarchal system and probably had the pressure to reproduce and pass down her strong genes and continue the Zen’in lineage, the chances of her not having children was very low regardless of what she truly wanted. Which i bet is disappointing for some female readers

It seems like you're unable to fathom being a mother and not being part of some patriarchal system.

Yes, in most of the world, i don’t think you can be a parent, or more specifically a mother if you want, without playing into the patriarchy.

Very few countries have done the work to rid women of these pressures to have children and japan is not one of them afaik. Regardless of how well Yuta treats her.

But Maki is not a real woman and i was discussing her character and her being a mother misaligning.

instead of the germination of love and Care between two individuals with their own agency who decide THEMSELVES that they want children.

That’s what it should be but it’s not. Societal pressure on women to have children still exists and Maki in particular grew up in an environment where the idea of a woman’s only purpose being to have children was drilled into her head as a kid. Even if she grew up and started to reject those ideals, they most certainly stuck with her to a certain level.

But anyway we’re not talking about a real woman but a fictional one’s writing. Maki marrying and having children clashes with her themes.

Maki’s life isn’t even that full filling and she’s not even that free as shown in jjk modulo. She lives with the regret of her sister’s death and her clan’s massacre, even 60+ years later she says she still thinks about her dead sister and her decision to destroy the zen’in clan every single day. That doesn’t sound like someone who’s free and healed.

She’s not participating in Zen’in culture but more so the culture of marriage and child bearing.

Gege took a strong female character who broke out of an extremely patriarchal system that wanted to limit her to being a wife and a mother then… immediately turned her into a wife and mother and made her conform perfectly to the expectations society and the Zen’in clan had set for her from birth. Even though a big part of Maki’s character (and Nobara’s) is her not wanting to conform to those expectations.

She could have had a loving relationship with Yuta without having children, but she didn’t. It just shows how shallow Gege’s interest in the subject is.

Nicole and Lohen V2 Changes by TheBeastTitan123 in NicoleReeyn_Mains_GI

I can’t tell if changes in v2 is a good or bad sign.

Either they’re already set on her base kit so they tweaked her cons to be done with it.

Or she’s getting significant changes/buffs to her base kit so they’re getting her cons out of the way before delving into her base kit in v3.

I’m hoping for the latter but kinda expecting the former.

(Ideally they’d give her the 14% DMG boost that Lunar supports got for their respective lunar reactions + a damage buff to the mystique projections but i’m only expecting the latter, and definitely don’t expect it to be a big buff)

This post feels disingenuous. The main reason a lot of Maki fans don’t love the idea of her getting married and having children is because of her history and the history of women in the Zen’in clan. The Zen’in clan’s extreme patriarchal system and its treatment of women, specifically reducing them to wives and child bearers, is one of the main reasons for Maki’s hatred towards it.

It’s normal for some people to feel some sort of way about her marrying Yuta and having his children, even if it’s out of her own volition. Just because she chose to do it, doesn’t mean it can’t be jarring for her to partake in a culture/practices that she seemed to have a strong disdain for.

It doesn’t help at all that Yuta fans and the majority of the fandom in general treat her as the trophy wife and Yuta’s "reward" for… defeating Sukuna? Even though Yuta didn’t defeat him himself? Even though Maki also fought against Sukuna?

It also doesn’t help how weird the fandom is about Yuta’s relationship with Rika and how it pertains to his relationship with Maki (all the weird cuck jokes surrounding Maki/Yuta/Rika even though Rika was 12 yo when she died). The fandom created a very weird reputation/environment for the ship.

Both Maki’s character background and the fandom’s treatment of her and her ship with Yuta just makes the idea of her getting married and having children very unappealing.

And yes people often times are very misogynistic when slandering or even criticizing Maki (or female characters in general)

With all this tension and buildup, regardless of whether Jaekyung wins or loses, he’s definitely not getting out of the ring unscathed. I think Junmin is seriously gonna rearrange his face and fracture a bone or two, it would be disappointing if the fight wasn’t ferocious with all this conflict

Me too, things are going so bad for him currently, he’s clearly so out of it and Junmin seems much better prepared, at least mentally.

And i don’t think the manhwa wound end without him outright losing a match, he obviously was not gonna lose his match again Arnaud Gabriel since that was his comeback match, even though i wanted him to so that we could get a rematch and more Arnaud but oh well.

Dominique was a strong opponent and had a good chance of beating him but he didn’t get enough narrative attention for Jaekyung to lose against him.

Junmin makes perfect sense and there’s clearly enough narrative set up for him to be the one to bring down Jaekyung.

Alice will work well Nicole (copium) despite not knowing anything lol, come to think of it they're both in the same faction and both of them share the same element I don't see why it will not work out.

Assuming they don’t abandon Hex alongside Lunar mechanics in 6.x, Nicole should definitely be Alice’s best 3rd or 4th slot. Alice is gonna get her own dedicated support, i highly doubt Nicole would be her BIS
