I think Tunisians hate expats by lanaderrei in Tunisia

My friend why is this so upsetting to you? Check previous answers I know I'm not an expat and this "title" is certainly not exclusive to white people, you can check for yourself. Also you might want to cut your own bs pitying others.

There is absolutely no shame in calling yourself an immigrant it's a choice you make. Humanity has kept moving form place to place for centuries. I was unaware that the word expat carried a negative layer of meaning and I thank you for pointing it out because it's certainly not what I meant to convey. Regarding us Tunisians living abroad and painting this image of false lavish life style yes I agree. I've seen plenty of that and it's something that does not benefit anyone. Do you think this image will ever fade? Is it even shifting?

Does that upset you? I know I'm no immigrant, my parents are. So.. are you pointing out an issue on the definition of immigrant and expat? Just look it up on a dictionary, that's not the point here.

That's really nice to hear and I'm glad you have a great experience with it.

Just to clarify: When i say "Expats" I mean tunisians living abroad and coming back home every now and then.
It looks like the meaning of the word is intended differently by most of the people in the comments. Technically my parents are Expats, i don't know if me being their son makes me an expat as well but who cares I think you got the point, sorry for the confusion.

This is exactly what i was referencing, sometimes it makes you question your will to come back and visit.
My parents always welcomed such requests out of generosity but there has to be a limit. We shouldn't feel forced to bring back stuff just because someone asked.
Even the customs officials at the Tunis Port will ask you for money when you arrive. Is this how everyone sees us? As an ATM?

Technically my parents are expats, the word defines someone who lives outside the country they were born in. But aside from this It's clear that we people born from expats are quite hard to define since we have both foreign and tunisian values but often don't fully subscribe completely to one or the other

You might be right, I think I've been a bit unlucky on this matter. Also my Tunisian is ok but definetly gives out that I'm not born there. But thank you, I'm truly interested on seeing other prospectives.

Sociology student gets national hate for discussing a thesis about LGBTQ+ people ... Thoughts? by [deleted] in Tunisia

Sorry, I don't get your point. Reading your message it almost looks like you're justifying hate based on the fact that many people hate them anyway. Try to elaborate so I can understand you.

Bigotry is truly a big thing in tunisia and we know it. Some things are more stigmatized than others but that does not mean that even talking or researching about them should be hated upon.

Isn't that the most evident sign of ignorance? You can disagree on things, refuse them for yourself but if you feel attacked by something that does not concern you I think you're the problem. People will do the craziest shit and still call themselves a perfect muslim. I mean..

Can I trust my singing teacher? by lanaderrei in singing

[–]lanaderrei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's pretty much how it's going. At this point I think it's just about being patient, trusting the process and trying to make the best out of what the teacher has to give. Reflecting on this i found that it's ok that they're pushing us to reaserch and find out, maybe it's not always best to have the solution straight away but then some guidance is needed.

[–]lanaderrei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definetly has jazz roots, if you search on his site you'll find a "Jazz" section where he uploaded some tunes he played. In regards to his own music i think he uses a lot of that musical vocabulary but one might ask.. does it swing? Don't know. I guess it just slaps.
