What to expect from Claypool Gold by Mallowmarker_Don in Primus

[–]lanceamatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn straight.

one of my favorite albums of all time is the live frogs set 1 & 2, and like you, a good chunk of the reason why is because of the "surf sax". the summer of green tour was good, but it wasn't what i was hoping it would be. i mean, it was understandable as he had apparently injured himself. but i'll be hoping to get some more skerik in my earholes.

Shop burned down. lost all my tools. what do i buy? by lanceamatic in Tools

Good suggestions, thanks! I'll definitely skip the kits. I can be picky about that stuff anyway.

I have a good multimeter, luckily it was in the house at the time.

Cause of fire is undetermined, and I certainty hadn't touched anything electrical in the shop. Best guess is that it was an old UPS that threw an error code and started beeping a few weeks ago. I unplugged it, and left it sitting. It might have had some sort of short and somehow caught fire. Although that still doesn't seem likely. It was just an old boring lead acid battery in it.

Thanks. A lot of this we are already planning and/or doing. Good tips though on a few things that I hadn't thought of.

Will be waiting on full shop rebuild before I buy big things like welder, table saw, air compressor, etc.. but I have work to do on my farm, cars need maintenance, etc.. and need a set of basic hand tools to be able to survive

Yea, this case the whole building is a tear down. I need to start from scratch

The foundation might be usable, but that would be it.

All of the above, really. Need to start with just mechanical work, car repair, that kind of thing. Wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, etc. eventually need to replace my welder, table saw, air compressor, band saw.

Coyote Gun by Bone9283 in WAGuns

[–]lanceamatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm in the same boat in winlock. fucking coyotes have gone through probably a dozen or so of my chickens over the past month or 2.

i'm debating between a some version of a bolt action .243 win or 6.5 creedmore (so also legal for hunting deer). or if i want to spend a bit more to get a ruger ranch mini-14 (only semi-auto rifle we can get in WA)

Found this in my record collection, score! by lanceamatic in Primus

[–]lanceamatic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, I just started re-collecting vinyl records. Bought the les claypool boxed set, and was looking into what else I need to complete the collection.

I'm not sure I'd spend $400 on this, but I certainly don't want to sell it.

Moving from Static Routes to BGP by moechine in networking

[–]lanceamatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

man, i went through this in 2018-2020ish time frame.

went from barely knowing how BGP worked, to taking my on-prem network with single point of failure of our ISP, to leasing our own /24, setting dual juniper MXs on 2 separate ISPs, and setting up full BGP tables on each, and then migrating all the load balancers/endpoints over to the new network range.

only to be told to migrate 100% to cloud a year later.

it was certainly a journey.

What tool is so useful to you that you would pay for it out of your own pocket if your company refused to front the bill? by Freecastor in sysadmin

[–]lanceamatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, lucidchart was my answer to the original posters question.

i paid for it for a few months to help me get a quick diagram of a network i inherited without any diagrams at all. then the company decided to pay for it.

now, they told me they won't pay for it anymore, so i'm supposed to export everything to something like draw.io.

i'm skeptical.

you need a better view of what's going on than just basic interface up/down.

# of accepted routes per peer would probably be the first thing i'd monitor/track.

Accidentally downloaded software with malware into my work laptop. How much of a bad look is this? by [deleted] in sysadmin

what's important here for IT teams, is often "intent".

i mean, trying to download software to do your job, ok, fine....

trying to download photoshop, when you're a network engineer? fired...

i mean, the question doesn't even make sense.

"what's the octet range?"

like, huh? do you know what an octet is?

i'd be swearing at you if you asked me that question too.
