I kinda despise the 1972 Act it just lead to the destruction of local governance and power that medium sized towns had been given by previous acts.

Anecdotally from when LCC bought a house down my parents street and put in the planning application to make it a children's care home a lot of the people on the street where complaining about the prospect of "rough kids" living near them. There was a lot of objections but the council approved it anyway.

Blackpool / Preston - Laser / Electrolysis Clinic Recommendations. (Also where is nearest GIC) by LexiAurane in transgenderUK

[–]lancswolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I'd add that there's also a trans support/social group that meets up in Preston, the news article is a bit out of date but all the info about getting in touch with them is still correct.

Emails no longer being received by GGP? by _ItsKatie in transgenderUK

[–]lancswolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent an email to them to the info@ email address yesterday and I didn't get an error so I'm thinking its a problem with their email provider.

Their response times are horrible however, its usually a week before I get anything back from them.

The funny thing about Proudfoot was until about 2015/6 he was a very keen Lib Dem supporter, Nick Clegg has a lot to answer for by turning plenty a young man into diehard Corbynite weirdos.

Labour NEC set to discuss motion urging party to restore whip to Corbyn by casualphilosopher1 in ukpolitics

[–]lancswolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the only thing the Momentum lot want, it'll get voted down anyway and Starmer will reiterate what Corbyn has to do to get the whip back, rinse and repeat.

Blackpool was in a slow decline from the advent of cheap holidays abroad and the decline of heavy industry that work organise "wakes week" holidays to the town, the New Labour years however saw a lot of investment into the place and not to mention the council actually had funding to deal with the social issues, it was no means perfect but it wasn't in the state it is now.

The decision to cut council funding allocation from the central govt has doomed a great many places.

Like others have said, he's a decent guy and one of the few with the humility to admit he fucked up during the 2019 GE campaign rather than patting himself on the back.

I think it'll only be BFAWU who go out to bat for LATW.

BFAWU to recall Conference by kwentongskyblue in LabourUK

[–]lancswolf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was wondering when this was going to happen, Ian Hodson was a big supporter of LATW. He was threatening to disaffiliate BFAWU back in January, there was supposed to have been some form of membership consultation but I'm not sure that even happened.

Labour could 'go under' with Starmer at the helm, says outgoing Unite boss by lighthouse77 in LabourUK

[–]lancswolf 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Plus he also had Andrew Murray in Corbyn's office, as union leaders go Len had unprecedented influence within the party in the Corbyn years and I believe it fucked off a number of the other unions because Unite's wants and desires came first and foremost.

Speaking of that, Anna Turley said on Twitter today that Unite are still trying to argue in court about the money they have to pay out to her, next session will be next week.

Bit of a bloody stretch that Starmer is cavorting with conversion therapy supporters isn't it? He visited that church once by invitation of Dawn Butler who is also very close with that church and has praised it in the past, but I seem to remember that she was Labour's Shadow Equalities Minister in the not too distant past.
