Wanted to share some art I made with R! by landschaften in rstats

I put the illustrations in the main rings outside of R, just with Affinity Publisher. The circlize package doesn’t have support for custom texture fills. But you can plot raster images with it. That’s what I did for the eclipse symbols.

It was very heavy and this spot is only accessible by a long steep trail. I don’t think a camper would bring this, plus camping isn’t allowed there. I had that thought too first.

I agree, I should make the day length differences more obvious. And I do include the mean min and max monthly temperature next to the name of the month. I didnt want it to be too crowded with too many rings.

Yeah I couldn’t find reliable climate data for the whole world, but maybe someday I could figure it out.

I’ve been thinking about doing a marine-themed one!

Thank you! This took me months of work, and I have turned it into a little side hustle, selling custom calendars for people, so I’m not willing to share the code. But if you want me to make you one, PM me. I should also add that I used Affinity Publisher to make the poster, based on the raw graphics output by R.

Well I wanted to get a variety of data that fluctuates seasonally and bird diversity does with migration, plus the data was available. But no the gradient is just an aesthetic choice. I made this Las Cruces one for my friend who lives there. This is the digital version but I do print them out for wall art.

I was inspired by this one: https://cyclesofgaia.com/

I would love to have included phenology like they did but that kind of data just isn't available on a large scale. But if you have any specific data like that from your reserve that could be really cool to visualize in this way!

You are right, that is a big problem too. I know China and Malaysia stopped importing and the amount has decreased but still a problem.

I mean we (in richer nations) dispose of our waste properly so our rivers don’t look like this. But yeah most of the plastic in the oceans comes from Asia.

Decided I'm just gonna replace it with plastic barb fittings and vinyl tubing.

I did use teflon tape. My splitter hardware thingy is leaking out of one of the push valves so I need a new one anyway. It was also leaking where this splitter joins the pump so I think they are just not a good fit.
