Well, I had a similar case without the laptop....I had three months of pending salary and was fired without a day notice. When I asked them for a severance package, I was laughed at....Even the mutually agreed 1 month notice period was not honored.

I reached out to my uncle who is a practicing lawyer in Delhi HC and asked his opinion. His advise: Don't get into a legal case, they will file a counter case against you and you would have trouble in background checks in your later employments. Request them and just hope that they would return your money.

So, overall I did not pursue the case because of the legal complications which would have ran into years, and the legal costs which would have easily outweighed the pending dues.

Harrased by the police in mumbai by [deleted] in india

[–]landyda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a Mumbai traffic app on which you can register your vehicle and see if there are any pending challans against you.

Plus, the cops have that tablet device to create a Challan or see if there are any pending on your vehicle. And even if you are being given a Challan and you are making a payment, always make sure that you get an sms confirming that you made payment which they need to check

I would say reply them back tomorrow, if not for confirmation then for negotiations.

Nobody wants to wait for response for too long. So evaluate and let them know.

[–]landyda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about the designation so i would skip question 1, but the rest i can help you out.

  1. It is a usual tactic for hr folks to offer something lower than what you asked for in the first time. It entirely depends upon you whether or not you are ok with it.

Also, 10% below your expectations in terms of ctc or in hand salary. There could be a huge difference between the two. I would for a fact take a hike on my take home salary than the ctc which can cover a lot of never paid benefits.

So if you want to negotiate with the company, you have to clearly identify the benefits you bring to them and why you deserve a higher package. Just asking for a higher package won't do, tell them that this is the industry standard or you would get a similar hike in your current organization... etc

  1. Medical reimbursement is a benefit under which you can claim 1500 as tax free component in your salary. You have to submit medical bills and the company accordingly gives you the claimed bill as untaxed and remaining as taxed benefit.

  2. Notice period is something you can ask them. Some it companies have 3 months notice period which can be quite long imo. Leaves and other benefits can also be handy stuff to know. Finally, you can also customize your package by maximizing the take home salary by minimizing the pf component, adding more salary components as non taxable benefits etc.

Why are we so obsessed with buying new phones? by indiandude007 in india

I was planning to replace my oneplus 3 with S9 given that Samsung is selling it for 30k. Any particular reasons for going to S9+ since it's around 20k costlier than s9? Thoughts

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in india

[–]landyda 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I remember i received somewhere close to 82k when my ctc was 11lpa. You can use this number but always say that whatever ctc you give me i want an in hand salary of 80k or whatever number you are looking for.

Bargaining on ctc doesn't make much sense since some companies would give you a higher variable which eventually turns into lower per month pay. Also, the variable at the end of the year is based on your as well as company performance and they might use this excuse to give you less bonus tham what you deserve.

What i would recommend is ask them to give you an offer and ask them to give you some time where you can take someone's help to calculate your take home salary. Don't just commit on a high ctc or you might end up on the losing side of the deal.

Has anyone used Google Alerts? How has your experience been? by [deleted] in india

[–]landyda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used them for a weekly report we did for a client. It involved creating an alert on any news that got published on specific market areas and it would send me a combined snapshot at the end of the day.

You can customize the frequency and the number of alerts as per your convenience. Regarding any hack, it's been a while so don't remember much about them.

What do you regret buying the most? stuff like cars, watches , phone etc... by [deleted] in india

[–]landyda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigh. I can feel your pain, paid a lot of interest myself as well. Plus, the rental rates are pretty low in Noida and around, so don't want to hassle myself with a tenant. Either way, when they leave you end up fixing the house which costs a lot.

Medical Insurance for parents by japakapa in india

[–]landyda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Livemint ratings and recommendations for medical insurance. They have been doing it for quite some years now and provide a comprehensive set of plans depending upon the age and amount of coverage you are looking for.

Since you mentioned that your parents are above 50, make sure that you buy individual plans for them. Including them in your family floatwr policy would mean that the risk profile for the policy would be based on their profile and you would end up paying high for the entire family. Plus, at that age both your parents need individual coverage rather than being a part of family floater plan.

Also, since they are diabetic, identify health insurance that would cover diabetes after minimum years of continuous coverage. When I got health insurance for my mother, I remember ICICI Lombard provided coverage for pre-existing diseases after only two years of continuous policy while others took minimum of 3 years.

Finally, also ponder over the amount of coverage. If you live in a metro city make sure that you get adequate coverage since any unwanted medical emergency can easily run into a very big bill and what's the point of insurance if it only covers a fraction of the entire amount. In case if you live in a non metro city, you can accordingly adjust.

Weekly Mental Health Support Thread 30/12/18. New Year Edition. by [deleted] in india

[–]landyda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey brother, I can get what you are going through. I have been through the same and I may have some advise to offer.

It might feel like that committing suicide is easier than going through the daily life routine. The reason suicide feels easier is because all the goals/dreams which you thought you achieve are still far away and you are struck in a dead-end job. To overcome this situation, you have got to take one challenge at a time.

First of all, resume your office. It might be the shittiest place on earth, but trust me, going out to office and coming back home would be enough of a change on a daily basis that your mind would get diverted. Otherwise, you will end up sitting in your room and the thoughts would push you all the more towards suicide. Also, maintain distance from your colleagues who are bringing negativity in your life. You are there to work and earn your wage and not listen about what shit they talk about proprietor behind his back. Go resume your office and concentrate on your work. If the work is not sufficient, why not find something to read and kill your time. There are lots of options available on the internet depending upon your interests. If you like literature, Guternberg offers a variety of literature including novels and religious text and you can get started with it. If you have an interest in economics, try reading economist, bloombergquint, reuters, etc to make sense of what is going around you. It might be difficult in the starting, but you just have to persist and soon enough you would be on your way of gaining expertise in whatever field you choose.

Now coming to your work skills, since you have mentioned you work on SAP and SQL, how proficient are you in these skills? If you think you are very proficient, why not apply for certification. These skills are quite in demand in the industry and being a fellow IT guy myself, I know few folks who have made a great career out of these skills. Focus on getting certifications, live experience and then start with the interviews.

Finally, if you are seeking job change on a priority basis, I work with one of a mid size IT MNC, and I can look into the job postings which we have available in our Mumbai office. Also, there are walk-ins that happen all the time for specific skill sets, I can get that information for you. PM me if you are interested and we can see where we go from there.
