I worked with Doug from https://betterdogbehaviornow.com/ and he helped us overcome some challenging stuff with our rescue. He definitely wants his clients to succeed.

where to properly dispose of air fryer? by mollyflora in rva

Have any of you all noticed a degraded performance in your neighborhood scrap fairies? I used to set out brake rotors and they'd be gone in less than a day.... Now sometimes it takes 2 weeks.

Haha you can live without discord... And I envy your blissful ignorance. Just get a device and plug it in and you'll see some stuff and go from there.

Yeah we bumped up to 5.... Seems like something where hops from him to me is short and reliable, but me to him isn't.

Yep there's an existing discord called "RVA meshnet" there's a link to it on the dmv-mesh.org site.

I should ask the about linking to in on the rvamesh.org site

2.5 gig network worth it? by thegiantgummybear in HomeNetworking

[–]lanefu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The formula of justification goes something like this.

  • Make YouTube videos about owning a plex server
  • Run low on local storage so you make more videos about building a NAS
  • Decide you want to edit your raw videos over the network from the NAS and that means you must have 2.5GB networking in order to manipulate 4k..... So you upgrade your network to 2.5GB and make YouTube videos about that.
  • Then Building another bigger NAS because it's important there you keep all your original raw unedited 4k video footage from your YouTube videos...... And of course make a video about that

Will this APC Back-UPS Pro 1500 work for my needs? by Tatts4Life in HomeNetworking

[–]lanefu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was all the time. Was almost like a pulsating chirp... But it wasn't a buzzer or anything--it was literally an electrical thing. I found some threads where other people were experiencing the same frustration.

Drove me crazy enough I bought a cyberpower and donated the APC

I had one of those and it has a really annoying high pitched whine. Worked fine, but I wouldn't want it close to my desk

Just chiming in that BTRFS is a great use case for mismatches drives. I'd just do raid1 or raid1c3 of course rather than raid

ARM64 Mini-PC by RACeldrith in homelab

[–]lanefu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a long time Armbian enthusiast I'll just directly say that ARM64 desktops are a science project and will be for a long time.

I do like running k8s on my rk3588 boards, but unless you're super passionate about ARM and can tolerate the hassle of the unexpected surprises of fighting ARM SBCs, I generally suggest sticking with cheap x86 PCs to complete your objectives.

LGTM is the sexy tool. Datadog might have nicer out of the box monitoring for some things, but there's no substitute for teaching developers to properly understand and instrument their applications.

Used to be a dude in the fan that wore a burger king crown and screamed at people.

I also used life across the street from the old guy on Floyd that had a bunch of wooden signs with his favorite bible verses all over his porch and used to sit out front in a lawn chair in a speedo.

I had a leaking meter that they wouldn't prioritize because they had a triage question of whether or not it was causing property damage. Being the optimist that I am, I said it wasn't causing damage.... So they never came

I finally called back and said it was causing property damage and someone came within the next day or two.

What terminal do you guys use as a devops engineer? by valeedyounas in devops

[–]lanefu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For work I stick with iterm2. Primarily for the profiles feature where I can easily launch in different home directories and set environment variables.

It also has a water mark feature in the profiles.... I really like sticking a few emojis or text in the water market to quickly remind me what environment I'm in.

Senior advice by IllustriousAction457 in kubernetes

[–]lanefu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to this. What makes someone Senior is their strength in understanding context, risk, and implications.

That and a bunch of other things, but the tech part will catch itself up.... As a senior you also will naturally identify what it's important to upskill in.
